Game Masters are moderators, the arbiters of adventure, who tell the stories of Aelyria by describing the world setting and its imaginary inhabitants, while providing the responses to posts players make for their characters. There are three levels of game masters:
- Assistant Game Masters support a local city game master.
- Game Masters moderate a settlement location and oversee local players.
- Senior Game Masters coordinate and supervise game masters in a specific area.
There are also non-moderator special contributors who participate over our out of character forums to promote public discussions about the world of Aelyria, our web site, and our diverse community. These special contributors are comprised of Player Advisors, who offer guidance and counsel to new and veteran users alike; and, Creative Scholars, who mentor users on writing skills and creative submissions. |

Applying to Moderate
If you would like to become a Game Master, look at the list of cities, check out the Lands FAQ, and review the Gazetteer to get an idea of the type of settlement you would like to moderate. You can either moderate a currently-existing city that lacks a moderator, or you can propose the opening of a new location. When you are ready, submit detailed answers to the following three questions to the Help Desk:
- What story and types of plots do you envision telling in your city?
- What previous writing and role playing experience do you have?
- How do you plan on attracting and retaining players from outside Aelyria?
Jurisdiction
Game Masters are each assigned to a single settlement -- the city and its immediate surroundings -- to moderate. They can appoint Assistant Game Masters to help them tell the stories and engage players. Senior Game Masters supervise and coordinate a group of game masters under a specific area of the game world. Each moderator has full jurisdiction over their cities, but should coordinate with other moderators when stories involving multiple cities or broader areas are involved.
Management
Aelyria is managed by a team of supermoderators and administrators known simply as "the Management". It consists of Game Directors who make sure that the entire game is running smoothly, Leaders who help operate the site, and the Creator who leads all of Aelyria.

Role playing happens over our message boards where our world is organized into settlements (cities) and areas (provinces), each represented by a forum moderated by a Game Master.
