The Constabulary

Description:

In the central sector of Vortex, the Constabulary stood proud and strong. Situated close by the Thane's estate and the local court of Justice, it was one of the better build houses in Vortex. Build in red and white stone, it was a huge difference with the common grey-stone buildings that cornered it. One could've entered the Constabulary's premise through a cast iron fence, giving sight on the perfectly trimmed lawn. Following a short cobblestone path, one would've reached the large wooden door painted in white and bearing the crest of the city of Vortex. When entering the Constabulary, one would've found himself standing in a large hall that acted as the waiting room for all citizens and cases

At the door, two guards were standing and watching over the safety of the people in the room. One of them was a male Vagaran human, trying to stay awake after countless hours of being on post. The other was a female Dorin, who out of boredom has started to make a game out of counting the black and white tiles in the waiting room. The furniture in the waiting room was very common, as it consisted out of a dozen wooden chairs with purple cotton cushions and two long wooden tables filled with countless outdated Heralds and various brochures and pamphlets.

At the two stairs that lead to the first floor, a counter was situated with a small female ratta sitting behind it. She was constantly knitting socks and scarfs, paying almost no attention towards the people that came and went. Sporadically she would lift her head, as someone came in and asked her for an appointment or directions and with her squeaky, high pitched voice she would answer: "Serale, how can I help you?"

When one went upstairs, they would've entered another large hall, with various corridors that lead to the many offices of the constables. A large mahogany door with the crest of Vortex lead to the Prefect's office. One would've noticed that this floor is like a beehive, with constables and their clerks and secretary's running about, all doing their best to serve the law and to uphold it in a same manner.

The Elegant Blades Weapon Shop

Description:

Within the Mercantile Quarter in the Eastern end of Vortex, carefully squeezed in between two squat and large stone buildings was what appeared to be a very small, rickety wooden house with a shingled roof. In truth, it was once a house, but the tiny building had been renovated into a forge. A simple, well carved wooden sign that read "Elegant Blades" in very neat and tidy black cursive writing hung off a black iron signpost above a narrow door of only six feet in height painted oddly in bright teal. The owner and blacksmith of the shop was the one who had crafted the sign and was very proud of it. He would often bring it up in conversation with his customers, seeking their approval of it.

If one were to squeeze through the door, they would find themselves in a small showroom that was jam-packed full of racks, cases, stands, shelves and showcases containing a large variety of weapons. The majority of the weapons for sale were knives and small blades however, ranging in size and quality. If there was a knife you wanted, it was here, for such weapons were the owner's specialty. From the simplest of boot knives of common iron, to a combat knife forged from Dwarven Steel, the owner could forge it for you. Small blades and knives were always in high demand, especially in a shadowy city such as Vortex. Assassins, thieves, rogues and cutthroats plagued the streets and knives were a good weapon to use when intimidating, robbing or killing innocent Vortexians. Hence the reason why it made good sense for an everyday citizen of Vortex to never leave the house without a blade of their own.

Although other various weapons were for sale, there was a much smaller stock to choose from compared to the amount of knives in the store. Yet one could still find Swords, Axes, Hammers and Bows of good quality and variety present in the showroom of the forge. A young, heavily armed male Esh'lahier casually leaned against the doorway to the back of the shop, where the forge was located, casually clipping his fingernails on one hand with a dagger, although his eyes were constantly scanning the room. The owner paid well for the Elf's security services, there hadn't been a single theft or any other kind of trouble since hiring him. The sound of a hammer against an anvil rang out from the forge, one could look in and see the owner of the forge putting the finishing touches on a fresh dagger.

Upon noticing someone in his showroom, the owner would put the metal down and head out to greet his potential customer. The owner was a stocky and burly Halfling by the name of Dubbie. The permanent coat of jet-black soot covering him head-to-foot and the thick, pungent scent of body odor wafting into one's nostrils at his presence spoke volumes of the Cether's personal hygiene, or lack thereof. However his big, bright and bulging hazel eyes and the infectious, friendly grin plastered on his face lit up the room. The Halfling's uplifting demeanor was a refreshing change from all of the wary, shifting and suspicious faces in the throng of people outside. "Serale!" he squeaked, moving from behind the front counter and into the showroom to greet his potential buyer. "Welcome to my shop! Please allow my clerk to help you with whatever you need as you browse!".
