I'm still sort of in the air as to whether I should create something new, or look into the possibility of resurrecting my old character Gornul Rockhead, dwarven warrior and military veteran from a decade-and-change ago (RL time, years before the current iteration of these forums).

Just sort brainstorming up a possible alternative and would like some feedback. A lot has changed around here and I can scarce tell if this comes out right. Probably needs some more meat on his character-development bones, too, but the world itself feels unfamiliar enough that I lack much to grasp on to.

----

Gorn'ul Ra'erf is a wanderer and fledgling sellsword trying to find his way in the world after being cast out of his pack by an older brother who feared his ambition to lead the pack. He has traveled the backroads for several months since his expulsion, lending his aid to guarding small caravans and learning the common tongue.

He stands 6'2" and weighs shy of 11 stone, all wiry muscle under his short, sleek fog-gray fur. His ears stand alert and his gray eyes take in everything around him. He wears simple pants and vest of leather, and around his neck he wears a large tooth on a leather cord, trophy of a beast slain with his own jaws during a hunt. His satchel contains nothing but supplies for the road and a sack of the coin he's earned from his caravan guarding.

----
Anyone to help me polish this up, develop it further, or tell me why it sucks? My time online for the day is coming to an end and I'd rather get this out there for some feedback than sit around trying to expand on it all on my own for days.

And so it began...

The long journey to assemble the most important item in any mages arsenal, the Staff of Arcana. Almost an era ago, the Master Sorcerer had been granted a vision while unbinding a willow tree located in the sacred grove near Medonia. That vision had told him items were needed in order to finish off the unbound piece of wood that was now slung across his back. Kas had decided to cut down his travel time drastically, and thus used a combination of Amplify and Group Teleport to get himself all the way over to Frigid River. The benefit of being a Sorcerer was rapid transportation, but only to places that he'd already visited.

Frigid River had been a city of some very good memories, though they were a long time ago.

Once there, the old man took the remainder of the brightening, and the next one, to recover from using such a powerful spell. After that, he stocked up on supplies and grabbed a lift with a caravan that was heading into Arakmat. The vision he'd received while unbinding the piece of wood now strapped to his back told him that an item was somewhere within the desert, and it might be guarded by a rather large, and apparently unfriendly, golden panther.

That wasn't much to go on, but Kas hoped that sights might jog his memory, or the stick on his back might give some pointers in where to go.

Timestamp: Middle of Spring, Era XIX (.p.f)

Ahhhh, the province of Prime. The old man remembered spending a lot of time hanging around this area in his youth, and again when he was an adult. It seemed that fate had decided it was time for him to return to this place. Kas had a vision when he unbound the tree and recieved the piece of wood now secured to his back. It was the beginning of his Staff of Arcana, but more pieces were required. One of those pieces now lay within the Province of Aelyria Prime. Thankfully, since he'd been to the city before, the Master Sorcerer had simply used Amplify and Group Teleport to cross the vast distance from Medonia to his destination.

The downside to using this method was the simple fact it left him very tired. As such, the old Sorcerer had opted to spend a couple of brightenings resting in The Crown before heading off on his little adventure. The vision had shown him a farm somewhere near the western gate of Aelyria Prime, and that was the direction he'd decided to head in. Apparently he was looking for a farm with a mother and daughter, containing wheat fields and some kind of very old oak tree.

In complete honesty, that wasn't a lot of information to be going on. As such, Kas decided the best course of action would be for him to stick to the road. Maybe the unbound stick of wood on his back would pull him in the right direction, or at least give him some kind of clue as to where he should be going, or maybe he'd remember something from his vision. Either way, westward bound was his direction, and that would have to do for the moment.

Hey all!

Just found this site. I used to role play a few years ago but fell out of it. i Found this site on total accident and after reading a little i got very excited to become a part of this community. Below is my current character concept. Planning on making her a officer in the dark elf military. Constructive criticism is more than welcome!

Name: Zara Obvedrian
Race: Dark Elf
Age: 65
Physical Description:
height: 5'11"
hair color/style: White with a hint of silver streaks. Her Hair is usually pulled back into ponytail held back by black ribbons. She ties ribbons every foot or so. This prevents her hair from getting in her way during combat, When there is little chance of conflict she will typically let it loose. She also tends to wrap dark silk over her her head so better keep her hair in order when wearing helmets.
eye color: A light shade of violet.

skin tone/build: She is considered pale by the standards of Dark Elves. Her body is in top athletic condition. Her daily routine entails crunches, pull-ups and other basic workouts designed to keep her body in top physical performance. Her workouts favor endurance and agility over brute strength, though she makes sure to keep her strength above the average strength of a typical Dark Elf female.

Personality:
Zara is driven, and pursues her objectives with a fierce determination. She is professional when interacting with other people and efficiently completes her tasks. Pleasure is nearly always prioritized second. Her sense of humor is typically dry sarcasm and will only chuckle if she finds something truly humorous. Under Zara's stoic persona, she is truly an adrenaline addict. Even if she would typically choose an efficient non-violent solution, she might not be able to resist the temptation to start something if it makes the situation exciting.

History: Zara was raised as the fifth daughter of Vekaria Obvedrian of the matron for minor house of Halth' Obvedrian. Being the youngest daughter of a noble, albeit a very minor one, allowed Zara much more freedom in her choice for her future. Throughout her childhood she did not take well to the politics or the workings of diplomats. She preferred the honesty and brutality of combat. Although her mother considered the path Zara was choosing, shy understood the potential having an officer in the army. She promoted Zaras dreams despite her prejudices and allowed Zara to depart to the Military academy at the age of 65 in order to pursue her future.

I'm wondering if there's anyone around here I even know anymore. I was once Gornul Rockhead of Kappa Squad, trained at the Midpoint military academy. Adventured with Danil Silverblade, Safra, Darkscorpion, Dragon al'Thor, and an assortment of other names lost in the haze of memory. I also GMed the city of Imperia as AGM Josh, and took over as GM when GM Nils vanished inexplicably.

I'm probably also just rattling off a bunch of names that mean nothing to anyone else, but this place was the genesis of my roleplaying career. Recently, I've been feeling an itch that I missed it here and wanted to try it out again.

I like what you guys have done with the place. Still feels like a little bit like home even after all this time, though.

Timestamp: Late Spring, Era XIX (.p.f)

It had been almost a full era since the Master mage had obtained the piece of wood required to build his Staff of Arcana. A lot had happened since then, such as Arcana completely changing as he knew it. That'd kept Kas understandably busy, since he was a mage on the council within Medonia. Not only that, it'd also allowed him the time to actually try and research the locations he'd seen in his vision. Apparently he needed three more parts to complete his staff, and one of them was located somewhere within Enamoria... or at least somewhere off the coast of it.

Now the hard part would be getting a boat, and telling whoever was going to drive it for him that he had no idea where he was going. Yeah, that was just going to make him sound like a madman. Regardless of this, Kas collected everything he would need for his journey. There was a backpack on his shoulders, his chain mail armour, a steel-capped quarterstaff just in-case someone needed a good smack, and the piece of wood he'd obtained from the sacred grove. That particular piece of wood was slipped on his back, under the backpack.

Hopefully the gifted piece of wood might help guide him towards his destination, rather than wandering around blind.

Erwyn was to be his trainer today that fact alone was a little disconcerting to the younger Lachlan. Erwyn was not a bad fellow in fact if anything he was a very decent sort of fellow, and he certainly knew the subject, the amount of times Lachlan had been locked in conversation with another ranger and suddenly, surprisingly, found the Master Ranger had slipped into the room, watching him. Maybe that last bit was in Lachlan’s head, it was Erwyn’s job to be across everything that happened within the Hall after all. And yet, Lachlan couldn’t help the feeling that he was being surveyed a little closer than the rest of the hall’s residents.

Lachlan waited in the open archery range, he’d just finished almost three candle marks of practice enduring correction after correction from every man woman and child within earshot of the range. Everyone’s a backseat shooter, he mused… He was dressed in hunting garb, as instructed, comfortable dark trousers tucked into soft leather boots, a boot sheath strapped to his right boot held his hunting knife. A dark green woolen shirt covered by his customary leather breastplate, should guards and forearm bracers. A quiver of arrows was attached to his belt, along with a few leather pouches and in his hand the yew bow he’d been tormenting all morning, “Lachlan?” The tall man swung suddenly surprised by the nearness of the elf’s voice, “Come on, we’re heading for that rocky outcrop to the north, you know it? Walk, I’ll assess how you move, don’t try to be silent or sneaky, just walk.”

The pair set out, Lachlan had half an idea of their path, though he guessed Erwyn would correct him if he strayed in the wrong direction, “Normally I’d say leave everything, your weapons, your armor, but I expect you like a steep learning curve,” Erwyn let Lachlan lead, apparently assessing him as he followed behind.

The silence of the elfin man’s step was a little unnerving, as if in response to the young man’s thoughts Erywn cleared his throat, “Your choice of clothing is good, black might seem like a natural choice but for the woods and often for the town, browns, grays and greens are move forgiving of changing scenery and lighting. Wool is a good choice of fabric grain that captures light rather than reflects it is most beneficial, these little things are of essence in stealth. Humans have fairly decent hearing and eye sight, but elves, dorins, and katta, to mention a few, have excellent eye sight and excellent hearing. The little things matter more than anything thing."

Ok so I was nominated to do this in chat.

We had talked about this a few years ago in chat and came to a bit of an agreement. Though it was never made official so it's still the way it is and is a bit silly. So here I am to try to have it approved and put into play. kthx

This could be for all Elves, but I'm mainly on the focus of Med/Syl, so yeah wut-evs...

0-40 right now is Child and it is being roleplayed out in some situations as elf children in their 70s being the same physically as a 12 year old. That would mean the parents of that child would of had to carry that baby around for what...2 decades on their hips? No sank yew.

SO. I say we make a notation saying that the 0-40Child and 40-80Adolescent CULTURALLY instead of physically and mentally.

It makes sense for the Elf Beebees to physically mature at close to the same rate as human children. Why? Because having to protect a baby elf running around for decades is utterly redonkulous.

So reaching physical maturity by say age 20 would make more sense in the world of things, but have them still be considered children by their elvish society until whatever age society thinks of them as children.

Thoughts?

The Undertow
On the steepest hill in the city, in the southernmost aspect of The Gut, The Undertow is where those with the least to lose, the least likely to survive The Gut, and the downtrodden amongst the dejected find themselves. It is a sea of detritus, an array of discarded and rotting shipping crates adorned with multicolored rags for sails constantly ashift with the hum and the roar and the loll and the crash of the ebb and flow of the city's trash. And like those hermit crabs that dot the beach nearby the pier who also have lost their home and shells , the people of the Undertow scurry with the waves and tide constantly moving their home lest it be swallowed or tumble down the hill to ruin in an avalanche. Thus, the day the flood came--the water rushing from the city in its higher elevations coursing down towards the ocean as is natural--that day, The Gut was in the way, but the Undertow, likes its denizens, simply acquiesced and just became the path of least resistance and washed away. Although a greater calamity than the usual collapses from stacking one-too-many crates or from the capricious currents of their unsteady foothold, the people of the Undertow understand eternal rebuilding and shrugged their shoulders. No shortage exists of the materials of their life and dream. In fact, whenever the city suffers, what is no longer good enough for someone in Noble's Nest will finds its way to The Undertow.

Its southernmost border is defined by the nearly-destroyed old stone city wall stretching along the Western Pier, first-built to prevent unauthorized entry into the port but long-since abandoned likely to the convenience of uninterrupted smuggling. Its northernmost boundary is an old deprecated five-story trading post (###NAME HERE###) made of dark stones pulled from the harbor. Long-since disjoined from its original purpose, it is now one of the most important site to control in politics of Undertown and The Gut. After all, it sits deep in The Gut and atop a hill overlooking the pier making it a valuable site of surveillance-something not overlooked when your business is the coming and going of ships and more importantly their content. The ground level floor, with its open-air courtyard and multiple adjoining rooms previously the site of trading stalls, has long since been co-opted to a different kind of bazaar. Constabulary efforts are often for very little gain; escape into the deeps of the Gut, Undertown, or The Undertow is quick and discrete.

No discussion of smuggling into the city is complete without discussing the network of sluice pipes racing down the hill interspersed over and around and throughout The Undertow. The sewers terminate their journey at the top of the near near the trading post; as this used to mark the extent of the city and was and continues to be the garbage dump. Unfortunately, The Undertow developed, largely in part to its proximity to the Western Pier as demands for cheap labor grew as the port grew. As a stopgap solution that became permanent to the problem posed by citizens, no matter how poverty stricken, living in the waste of the city, a well-intentioned politician created the current network of sluice pipes and gates to bypass the hill. This ramshackle network, now composed of homemade gates and pipes of any imaginable material with no rhyme or design, stretches out like mold through the neighborhood and maintained haphazardedly by any who can with something to gain. This network is indispensable to any wholesale smuggling efforts, inhabited by roving gangs of urchins whose membership is composed of any agile and light enough to run along the indecipherable network. The lucky ones are those live long enough to be too heavy to run the sluice network.

On any given day, one can amble up and down, and see the toiling mass of cheap laborers that comprise the life blood of the port making the best with what they can. A common sight is to see adults and children--all workers--gathered around a firepit burning refuse with someone tending to discarded fish parts from those working the in the fisheries; all will be laughing because they still can and at least tonight they will eat surrounded by family.

Physical Description:
Zemrik is of average height and build. He has dark blond/light brown hair wich is usually at medium length. He has bright piercing blue eyes. Zemrik at most times has a bushy goatee, but it is not uncommon for him to have a full beard, or be completely clean shaven, depending on how he feels at the time, or the current situation.
Personality:
Zemrik is very charming and almost always appears to be in a good mood. Most would describe him as a scoundrel, or rogue, but at the same time everyone loves to be around him, because he loves a good time, and loves to make sure all in his company are having a good time as well.
It has been said that Zemrik lacks the ability to take anything too seriously, and he would agree. His major dislike in life are those individuals that are too serious, and especially the ones that are self-important.
While Zemrik has had many job titles, smuggler, pirate, highwayman, con-artist, all not very flattering. Despite this, he is not evil. He usually tries to do the right thing, but if doing the right thing lines his pockets, then all the better.

Brief Description:
Serale, I am trying to form a group of refugees who are fleeing into the wilderness to escape the siege of Prime. I am more about adventures and less about leveling and gaining skills. Preferably I would like to self mod, with lots of PC input it would be more like a group mod as the story unfolds. My goal is for it to feel as real as possible. People have different goals, skill levels, and beliefs, but sometimes fate throws them all together to work together. Everyone is welcome and as soon as I get permission, and enough interest in creating the thread I will star it. I am thinking of naming it between an arrow and a target.
