Ceniel practices sorcery {training join if you wish}
Timestamp: 1st cycle of Kalendryas, Era XIII, post Fractum
Ceniel walked into the middle of the field and stretched. OK first I need to get to Clara. Ceniel closed his eyes and concentrated. The portal to the astral plane was before him. He walked toward it and laid his hand over it. The portal opened slightly but not enough to let him enter. He frowned and concentrated harder. The portal opened wider and his vis started mixing with the ara of the astral plane. He formed the vis and ara into mana and started forming it like mud clay. It formed into a simple ball of light. He admired it before letting it into the material plane. The mana swept down his arms like a miniature wave. He wooped with joy as it came near his hands; then he lost concentration. With nothing directing it the mana surged back into him and caused some havoc. He was thrown back off his feet and landed on his back. Stupid, stupid, stupid, you have to concentrate if you want to become the master of sorcery! He got back up he was bruised slightly but intact. He closed his eyes and meditated again. The doorway was in front of him again. He laid his hand on it and the doorway opened again. When the ara came through though he didn't let his vis mix with it. He was going to study this ara.
The ara was floating slightly to the side of his vis, not touching, but very close. He could feel the pull of the two. He looked carefully at the ara; it was bluish-whitish. He took the smallest amount of his vis he could and let a tiny bit of the ara mix with it. He was sweating now with the effort of keeping them apart. The ara and vis mixed together and created mana. The mana looked like a purple nexus of energy. He focused on it and it responded well to his shaping, unlike the raw ara. He concentrated on it and tried to make the lowest key force bolt he could. The mana wavered and turned into a ball of floating energy. He was shaking with the mental exertion now. He focused on the little ball and made it go down his arms and into the material plane. He opened his eyes and a bead of force the size of a pea was floating in the center of his palm. He then made this ara still in his mind go through the portal in his mind back to the astral plane he wouldn't need it yet.
The little pea of force floated squarely in the center of his palm. He picked it between his fingers and threw it at a rock some 5 feet off. The pea hit the rock and a little pop sounded as the pea exploded. The rock had a small chip in it where the pea had hit. Ceniel smiled and allowed himself to relax. He was shaking all over so he lay down and watched the clouds for half a candle mark.
Ceniel sat back up; he wasn't shaking anymore. He stood up, stretched, then bent down to have a closer look at the rock he had hit. It was about the size of his head and gray-black in color. The small hole where he had hit it was blacked from the small explosion. He stood up and sighed. Then closed his eyes again. He walked to the portal in his mind and laid his hand across it. Ara floated in. He mixed the ara and vis but only enough to cast 1 normal full sized spell, then he took the mana and separated it into 4 little pea sized orbs. He shaped all of them into bolts of force and let the mana trickle into his hand. He opened his eyes and 4 small beads of force were floating at the tips of his fingers. He started shaking all over. The strain of holding on to them was more than he ever could have imagined. He fell to his knees but kept hold of the pea sized bolts. He focused on the rock; his vision was wavering. He drew his hand back; it was like pushing it through mud, and threw the beads at the rock. Four mini explosions and he passed out.

OoC: Hmm, mayhaps we'll need a mod here. You know, so you don't get punished for bunnying
See, Stray was not much of a healer. And he wasn't much of an emergency response unit either. But Stray was a concerned citizen and when he heard several little pops from a distance, he turned and saw an elf faint and did not get up. That wasn't usually a good sign.
His brightening's jog interupted, Straylor sprinted towards the spot where Ceniel was and quickly knelt towards the elf's position. He checked for a pulse, and when he found it, sighed in relief. It could've been worst. The elf could've been dead. And Straylor would've been the only witness in a murder investigation.
Coughing from his sudden excursion, Straylor then allowed the elf to lay down comfortably on his back, and fanned his face with an open hand. "Come on, mates", he muttered nervously. "What in the name of Phedos happened here anyway....?"

what
"UUHHhh wh-whaaat." Ceniel was coming around. He opened his eyes. A man with a shirt with the alyxandrya guard crests was on it. A stinging fealing was at the ends of his finger tips. He looked down at them. At each tip was a small blacked burn. The spell didn't work He looked back up at the person and said "Who are you." His voice was weak and cracked in the middle of the words.

Perhaps in his delusion, Ceniel would have thought that the crest was from Port Alexandrya. In truth, however, it was the Medonian Crest.
Formed by the military a good many patterns ago, the crest was legendary as it was a reminder of the formidable power of the Empire Straylor served. It was, also, rather attractive. That along proved why Stray got all the ladies...
... well, most of them anyway.
Besides that, Stray was glad that the elf lord was awake. A dead elf was in no way a good introduction to their species. Growing up, he did not associate with other races, such as elves, dwarves, and the fae kind. There was, for a lack of a better excuse, just not enough of them for him to follow around. Most of his childhood friends were from the darker corners of Medonia. And thusly, there weren't too many elves that were bums within the city.
"Eh, your savior", Stray replied with a sideways grin, "Straylor Leonard, at your service. You come from Medonia?"

He looked at the man. If he was to be believed he had saved his life. It was normal that he should be friendly, to a certain degree he still didn't know the man. "My name is Ceniel. Glad to meet you." Ceniel looked more carefully at the crest on his shirst and realized it was the Medonian. "Medonia, yes i live there. But i came to Port Alyxandrya to learn magic." He tried to stand up. He was a little wobbly but he could do it. He put his left hand out to shake, with the burns on his right he didn;t wanna risk it.
OOC: A mod might be a good idea but i don;t plan to experiment with sorcery anymore.

"...erm, here lemme help", Straylor suggested as the elf lord rose to his feet. Ceniel was by far taller than the guardsman, but that didn't really mean much if he passed out while casting -- something Stray had not yet noticed. He wasn't much of a fan when it came to Arcana. From what he read, between Clara and Mana-shaping, any magus was left defenseless from several minutes to several seconds. That just wouldn't fit Straylor's philosophy of slash now, repent later.
"So, um, what happened anyway?", Stray asked as the two men finally shook hands. It was mere curiousity, nothing more. Slowly, he began to walk, assuming that Ceniel would follow. It wasn't overly safe to be in the wilderness anyway. That, and there were rumors of orcs running around the Empire. "Ay, you know how to use that?", Stray added when the elf lord was done speaking. He was pointing at the staff in Ceniel's hand. It would help, at least, if his new companion would defend himself should the need arise.

Ceniel followed the guardsman. Ceniel frowned slightly and recounted how he had passed out "I was trying to cast several spells at once, it was much more difficult then I had thought. Ah well atleast nothing was damaged except my fingers." He looked again at his fingers. "This..." Ceniel looked at the staff in his hand "No i don't know how. but its by far more impressive to have a weapon by your side then not." He didn't mention the dagger at his side hidden beneath the cloak. Ceniel looked around him. "How long have you been a guard for Medonia?" Ceniel asked.

Straylor frowned. As of that moment, he wasn't sure if agitation was the only emotion he was feeling. There was also a handfull of doubt and pity that was thrown into the mix.
"Spells", Stray repeated in a nonchalant sort of way, "I see." The elf lord's story wasn't overly thrilling, nor was it a great way to leave a lasting impression. So, truthfully, he was in the middle of a wilderness area with a mage who was unskilled at both magic and the weapon he held in his hands. Savoring this sweet moment, Straylor once again wished he stayed in Medonia with its delightful wine.
"Couple of months, I guess", he replied without much interest. He needed to get this ordeal over with quickly. He didn't want to know what candlemark it was, but from the position of the Suns of Telath, he knew that there was a long, warm brightening ahead of them.
OoC: Since this is your thread, I suggest requesting some form of moderation. It could be fun

Ceniel looked around he hoped it wouldn't take long to get back. He frowned slightly when the other guy looked distressed. He nodded when he said how long he had been working. He looked at the sun, god he wished he was back in alyxandrya.

"So, anyway", Straylor began as they continued their trek back towards the city walls. "What kinda ...mage are you?" The last part proved a bit more uncomfortable for Stray to ask. He would've felt much better if he just asked Ceniel how tall he was, or if he had any brothers or sisters. But the question was a needed one. There were bound to be elven necromancers, though many were typically bound to Pheods.
While the magus spoke, Straylor ran through the past couple of drills he learned before ending his professional training. From the paces between them, Stray was confident that he could cut the elflord and perhaps disable him quick enough to land one more decisive blow to the head -- preferably to knock him out.
That is, if he was a necromancer.
Stray wasn't fond of Arcana, but he was even more disgusted with Necromancy. Who would stick their hands in some dead guy's mouth?
A necromancer.
And who would probably turn that same dead guy into a mind puppet after he was done playing with it?
A necromancer.
Shuddering inwardly, Straylor's hand was beginning to itch towards his sword...should the need arise.
If not, and things proved just a bit more pleasant, Stray wound nod and follow up with another question: "Do you want to learn how to use a sword?"

Ceniel looked over at the guard at his side. He was acting very oddly. Ceneil listened to the question and answered quickly in a hope of dispelling any fears he might have instilled up on his companion and guide. "I am an initiate Sorcerer. I use energy to change and effect things." A swords trainer? It might be interesting to learn any techniques Straylor might have. There was always an advantage to learning a skill by multiple trainers. "I would be honored to have you teach me your skills, in swordmanship." Ceniel smiled ad relaxed slightly glad the mood had shifted to something more comfortable. If nothing happened he would ask for a rest in a candlemark or so dpeending how fast the guard pushed them, that is if they didn't reach Medonia first.

"Ah, sorcery!", Straylor replied though he contained his relief despite himself, "a...uh...noble sphere, I, erm, heard", he added with a grin to match. "Energy. I read a lot of books, see, so I kinda read through those tomes that magi usually read in the academies. Got it from the library." He nodded, thinking to himself again.
Didn't sorcerers learn to teleport? He nodded again at the mere idea of getting back to Medonia without walking. Far too convenient. Lazy, if anything. If only he could teleport those children out of the slums into some warm homes ...
Then, noticing that his companion had indeed answered his other query, Straylor turned and smiled. "I can't teach you here, but if we get to Medonia, I'll give ya free lessons!" He laughed good-heartedly, allowing himself to enjoy the moment of excitement. Man, he couldn't wait to train Ceniel into shape. Perhaps the physical conditioning would help the elflord focus some more. That, and the extra sleep he'd be getting from exhaustion.
"I hear that Elementalism is pretty powerful, though", Straylor continued their conversation, aiming it to amuse the magus. He wasn't the selfish sort, and decided to learn more about Ceniel by talking about what he'd like. What sort of conversation would a guard have with a civillian anyway? "I hear that an Elementalist was responsible for Jaedaxia's Everwinter -- it's beautiful -- and the destruction of Arkamat. Some people say that a FIRE TORNADO destroyed the whole city! Can you believe it? A tornado with FIRE?"

"A tornado of fire? Must have been a master elementalist or archmage. If i was an archmage..." Ceniel fell silent, daydreaming. "God this walk is unbearable! If i had only gone to Medonia after i finished my training i could just teleport back there right now!" He kicked some grass, then glanced at the sun. "So what kind of metal is that sword of yours made of Straylor?" He waited for an answe before speaking again. "Also what was your motivation to become a guard?" Ceniel looked over his shoulder, he could see the spot where he had been practicing it was a ways back by now.

As the travellers talked, they walked through the plains and eventually found a dusty path, about two yards wide, heading south, probably to Medonia or a nearby village. It could not be called a road, it had not been weeded or flattened, but it was enough for casual walkers, horse riders or even carts, if they did not move too fast.
Walking along the path with the help of a staff, an old shrugged man in grey robes mumbled to himself as he heard Ceniel's complaints about the journey, something about "the creepy youth of this days", but did not speak loud enough for him to consider it a provocation, perhaps because he noticed the guard walking along with him (not that he would be able to fight the mage alone, anyway) and went on South, in a surprisingly swift pace for a man of his age.
