Homecoming

15th Brightning, month of Kalendryas, in the Season of Winter, Era I of the Celestine Mandate, Era XV Post Fractum.

"Home..."

The grey-cloaked figure standing stock still amidst the bustling docks of Imperia breathed the word with a mixture of awe and relief. Anyone close enough to see the face sheltered under the hood would have noticed the glisten of unshed tears in a pair of emerald green eyes.

And, while she doubted anyone would recognize her, Alyssandra kept her hood up to cover her auburn hair. The Imperia she had known as Thane was many years in the past, and she thought it best to stay as inconspicuous as possible for the moment.

A small boy stood at her side and started wide-eyed at the mass of people passing around them. As he pressed heavily against her, Alyssandra knelt down and said softly, "Not to worry, sweeting...it will be quieter once we get on our way. Stay close to me."

Alyssandra straighened slowly and gathered their bag, looking around to get her bearings for the walk to her old cottage. It had been nearly 5 years since she had been in Imperia and the city had changed. It seemed more wild than before, and even though they had just lived the past 4 years with pirates, Alyssandra felt exposed. She took the boy's hand protectively to keep him close, and moved to work her way through the crowds.

Alyssandra picked her way carefully through the crowd, following roads which were familiar, yet understandably changed as she led the way towards the residential district and her old cottage. Old memories of her time in this frontier city floated in the air, and she smiled. She had been happy here, and she hoped to be again.

As she made her way through the city, she also kept her eye open for the Post, where she might send the letter she had written during the passage to Imperia. She needed to let Stephan know that she was now safe and she needed to tell him about Will. The crowns she had been able to scraped together for the trip were limited, but the letter must be sent and so the crowns would have to be spent. Her problem was that she had no real idea of where he might be.

A job would be her next goal, and she would need to hire someone to help her with Will. The enormity of the tasks chilled her heart more than the cold winter air.
