Under the docks...(Mod Please)
Darkening, Third Cycle of Kelendryas, Winter Season Era XV, Celestine Mandate, Post Factum.
It was another day in the streets of Imperia. Drake was walking around with no direct purpose. He walked comfortably to the docks and peered in the water. "What the..." Drake said to himself as he looked down. There was a old boot floating on the top of the water. "how could this have got here..?" Drake thought. Drake decided to jump into the chilling waters to see what else could have been down there, to his suprise there was something more, alot more. Drake seen a corpse floating there, his body quickly went from froze to numb, the fact of seening a dead half decade corpse in gneral would scare anyone.
Drake walked closer to see it. It was a human male for sure. More then likly a kemite. Drake backed up and ran into town and headed for the shore patrols office. He arrives but no one is there and the place is closed up for the night. Drake stood there cold and affraid not sure who to report the body to or even who to tell. In imperia one must chose his words wisely approch everything with caution. Talking to the wrong people could have you killed quickly. "Well, no one at the shore patrols office...I'll wait until morning to tell someone and get my mind back together, and catch up on some sleep."

Darkening, Third Cycle of Kelendryas, Winter Season Era XV, Celestine Mandate, Post Factum.
Lirael was walking slowly, quietly making her way from the tavern to her current home when she heard the splash of somebody descending in to the water. Stiffening, she slowly inched her way toward the sound, hoping to keep out of sight as she peered down into the water.
When the man reappeared a short time later, dripping wet and quiet frightened, she found her curiosity overcoming her common sense.
A common enough ailment, these days.
A quick drop into the water later, the body became readily available for her perusal. She had seen dead bodies before, though none from drowning; the bloated corpse gave her pause, but only for a moment, as she kept herself low in the water.
Wading closer to the body, she inspected the belongings still on it's body, even waterlogged as they were, a slight smile on her lips as she moved away once again.
Wading further down and coming out of the water some distance away, she stepped out into the night once again, her steps hurried now as she made her way back to her lodgings, hoping to get out of the water as soon as possible.

OOC: Serale Lirael I'm going to edit my timestamp above to be more specific. Also if I could ask that you put one down that would be great. Thanks
Drake looked up and seen the child run from the waters. Drake gave a slight chuckle and headed after the child. Drake fairly quickly caught up to the female. "Well now. Awfully late for a young child be out in the streets. Wheres your parents? You really shouldn't be lurking around here. You know pirates control these areas and I shouldn't have to tell ya' what they would do to you. How about this...I take you home, almost like a escort...Or you can lurk around here and caught...and have unexplainable things happen to you...choice is yours." Drake puts down his white shroud. His black hair falls to his shouldblades.
Drake stares at the female, standing there probally cold and freezeing. Drake shakes his head. The incompitance of some people amazed drake. In this case of was this child's parents. Whats kind of parent would leave their child out at this time around there area of the docks? Drake did not know, all he knew is this child needed to get home, or somewhere safer then here. This was nothing unusal about drake being around here late, but even he could esaily get cut from a pirate. Drake had little skill and barly could hold his own against one of them, let alone mutible pirates. Drake stared at the child and waited for a respance.

Lirael bristled at the condascending tone, wondering idly if the man was blind, as well as an idiot. Ah well. She preferred them that way, really.
"I was walkin' 'ome from the Tavern, ye daft fool. Do I look li' a child to ye?" Pausing, she seemed to collect herself for a moment before continuing on.
"An' wha' is yer excuse, to be walkin' these streets when ye seem to know their dangers?"
Raising one finely sculpted white eyebrow, she gathered her now wet white hair in one hand, telting her hair to the side and beginning to wring the water out over her right shoulder, as though with barely a care in the world.

Drake gave a chuckle. "Yes to my eyes you seem only to be young to me...Of course...?" Drake gave a incipite grin. Drake began to wonder himself if this young women was not as inteiligent as drake thought. Which at that point seemed to be impossible.
"My excuse...? Well...I have no reason really...Except I suffer from something called, insomnia...If you do not know what that is, it s where you cannot sleep during the dark hours of the day. But to say 'excuse'...No I have no excuse...Imperia night life is all I know and if forever all I will know...I want to make something clear to you...I'm not going to hurt you..." Drake looked at the female. Drake was covered in water and was cold. "Maybe I'm mistaken...you seem a bit older then I orignally thought...My apologies." Drake got a bit of moonlght though the clouds. I better illuminated the side of the woman's face. "Tell me...What you seen...Did it scare you?" Drake waited for a response.

The female before Drake was young, this was true, though certainly not a child. A young woman, with snow-white hair and a pale complexion, Lirael stood at barely five feet tall and was dressed in a pair of comfortable breeches and a white linen shirt, a light jacket overtop of that. All of this clothing was now drenched, of course, her white hair hanging limply around her slight frame.
Her entire body spoke of her anger, from the way she stood with her arms crossed over her chest to the defiant tilt of her chin as she stared up at her assailant.
Upon hearing the stuttering way he spoke, however, she relaxed somewhat, though still on her guard. "Ye shouldna' be walkin' 'round these parts by yerself, ye know. 'Tis foolhardy, lest ye knew yer way 'round a blade."
Letting her arms drop to her sides, she moved around to the side of the man -- whose name she had yet to learn. "'Tis not such a frightening thing, a body lyin' dead in these parts. Ieffreon is, by and by, a dangerous place. 'Specially these parts."
ooc: got a mod coming our way in the next day or so; things should get hopping by tomorrow eh, or the next day; should be coming soon!

Drake stood there and stared at the young women. Drake could tell she was not a adult but nearly close to becoming one. "Well I do not know my blades well enough to protect myself from pirates, but I'm sure, with the right motion, I could stick one of them...I wonder if this poor fool" Drake looks at the body, "Had trouble with them...He could very well be a victim of them. For he does not look like a pirate."
The man in the water had blue jeans with a light blue t-shirt rolled to his elbows. "Hmm this fool probally had a debt to them...Or was an idiot and cought himself standing where we are...And well...Got stabbed..." Drake gets out of the water. "This is to dangerous to be out here. I'm heading toward home. You can stand here and become the next body under the docks...Or you can leave with me...I would think the second one would be more inteligent..." Drake shakes his head. Water shoots off his raven black hair.

A body is a curios thing. The stricken shell of life, the fragment of a being's earthly existence. Consciousness slips away and the drum of the heart falters. The soul passes from it's home in flesh to an uncertain abyss.. The passing of a life, a death. It had been said before that the only things sure in life were death and taxes. None had found a way to escape the one occurrence that harried men in life more than anything else.
The body floated face down in the ebbing surf, under the docks and in a particularly ramshackle area of town. Decaying warehouses lined the streets and empty piers the waterfront. Imperia was a brutal landscape. It was not in many places that a citizen could stumble across the morbid spectacle of a cadaver and not scream for help or if inclined to fainting succumb to the lulls of darkness. The apathy spoke for the citizenry, hardened by the harsh realities of trying to survive in the city by the bay. It was that drive for survival that led Lirael to search John Doe for anything of consequence, perhaps hoping for a few crowns or something to pawn. Better her than the next guy, right? The man was rather shabbily dressed and did not have much on him. A cursory inspection of his pockets for valuables would reveal a mere five or six crowns, however if Lirael was meticulous, and made to go to the very bottom of the dead man's trouser pocket, she would find something else. Metallic and cool between her fingers, as she pulled it out for examination in the dying twilight she beheld a ring. It was plain in fashion, completely ordinary, and in the last beams of light it glittered gently. The robbery of the dead did yield a profit it seemed.
The setting of the suns was nearing completion, the darkening had almost completely enveloped the pair standing idly upon the abandoned streets of Imperia. Nothing stirred. People retreated to their beds behind locked doors at this time, and as rule did not walk the streets where dangers lurked. Dull clouds blanketed the night skies, shutting out any rays of the firmament from reaching Telath. All was becoming steadily darker and darker. It was then that the icy chill of the Imperian winter bit into the two waterlogged humans with a vicious gust of wind, and the intensity of the waves slowly picked up.
Another sound became apparent. Hurried footsteps, clacking against the rough stone lanes. They seemed to be getting louder..

Lirael shook her head, a smirk adorning her lips for a second or two before she turned away from the man. "Ye have yer home to return to, an' I have mine. Ye may walk wi' me if'n ye wish, though."
Turning away from the sound of hurried foosteps, Lirael fingered the ring in her pocket as she walked, eyes moving here and there as she finally realised just how dangerous this part of town was, especially this late at night. Her other hand moves toward the concealed dagger at her hip, though she does not grasp it.
yet.

Drake gave a smirk. "Well I can follow 'ya." Drake began to walk at a slow pace. Drake gave a nodd of his hea toward the way his was walking. "Well...Why exactly were you out here in the first place? I mean I know it is none of my buisness but I was curious." Drake gave a smile toward the girl. He pulled out his flask and took a swig. The smell of whisky fumed the air. Drake gave a small burp under his breath. He took another one. Another reeeking burp came out. The smell of alcohol infected the air.
"So can you handle your drink?" Drake shooks his flask pointing it at the women.

The traipse of footsteps and the sound of attire jingling with rapid movement grew more audible. Whoever or whatever was coming, was approaching quickly from the opposite direction the pair were taking away from the waterfront. Much quicker than Lirael and Drake were moving, with much more intent purpose and power. The pair began to feel the cold. Their damp skin was covered with gooseflesh, and shivers began to gently prod at their bodies beneath their garb. It was near freezing.
The approaching sound halted near the pier where the body had been spotted a minute before. Neither Drake or Lirael would be able to make out what was occurring over there if they tried, only perhaps that there were several figures moving about. A hushed voice sneered something in the darkness but the retreating duo couldn't make out what was being said. The slight splash of water might of alerted them to what was happening.
Seconds passed.
"The fethin' things not on 'im!" the voice was panicked. It rose above the rush of the waves and to it's counterparts on the pier, no doubt watching dry from above.
"Check his damn pockets, ye fool."
"I did for feth's sake!" Exasperation, desperation. Someone was looking for something and needed it badly.
"If't fell out in the wat'r..."
There was a hushed whisper reminiscent of the one before. No more voices followed, a steady stream of dripping water hitting rotten wood was the only sound. Then there were footsteps in the darkening once more. They were coming.

A ring. They were this bloody incensed . . . over a ring. Lirael released her grip on said piece of jewelry as she fingers continued to brush over the dagger at her side, eyes narrowing as she drew the hood of her cloak up.
To her companion she threw a side long glance, lips twisting into a slight smile as she jerked her head once toward the direction of their sudden pursuers, before drawing her cloak around her slender frame as she picked up the pace; from an amiable stroll to a hustled pace, though she constrained herself from all-out running.
That would just be asking for pursuit.

Drake made a sound and gave a half gasp. He thought to himself, "Hmm, someones up to something...I'll play along..." Drake clenchted his dagger unde4r his off white cloak. He had his hand on the kris waiting for the right moment to strike. Drake whispered to the female. "Psst..Your dagger...Aim for his throat...Chances are hes comming for us...Do not panic..." Drake ran his pointer finger around thi hilt of the kris. He began to think to himself, "Come on...Waiting for 'ya...Come on!" Drakes body began to flood with adrenaline.
Drake fed off this the feeling of blood. The blood flowing through his vains quicker then water in a river. Drake had this emense feeeling...Something was going to happen. "Nothing will happen to this girl as long as I'm here. He thought. Drake kept giving quick looks back and around the foots steps can still be heard around. Clicking and clacking...The more foots steps, the more adrenaline for drake...Which could either lead to death for him or the other...Weather or not it happens.

They were after something, that was for sure. Drake wouldn't have any idea why they were being pursued but Lirael could of had an inkling. There was only one thing of value on that corpse laying under the peer, and she had it. And even then, surely that dull old ring couldn't of been worth much anyway. It was plain and wasn't extraordinarily crafted by all means. A cheap trinket was all, if she was lucky she might get a hundred crowns for it at the market but not much more even on a good brightening.
The figures stepped up their pace to match the increasing strides of the pair, although in the darkness they could not be made out. The shivering pair were entirely alone aside from those who pursued them further down the street, but ahead of them there was a solitary streetlamp. It was an old thing, iron and casting pools of flickering light onto the street. It stood at a crossroads, and as they wound up the narrow street and into the depths of the harbor district they might realize that in the darkness and with the heat or pursuit they had escaped any knowledge of their exact location. There were only old warehouses and the occasional tenement around them. Ratty wooden buildings and falling apart masonry. Sometimes there was a light within a window of the structures and the murmur of conversation, sometimes even heated argument but nothing stirred around them.
It was doubtful anything would be noticed if it happened outside this darkening where they presently were. And if something did get noticed, it was unlikely anyone would interrupt the business of Imperia. Behind them a gruff voice broke the eerie quiet around them. "Ey! You folks up 'ere. Stop! We'd jus' want ta talk!" They were almost under the lamplight.
