The Brig - Office of the Shore Patrol - Spring

The First Brightening in month of Immanis, in the Season of Spring, Era II of the Celestine Mandate, Era XIV Post Fractum, the Second Era of the Regency of Milo L'Evienne.

A new and bigger simple stone building with a heavy oak door and heavily barred windows, the Brig served as the office of the Imperia Shore Patrol which is the law enforcement arm of the Harbour Master. There were also several holding cells for prisoners. These cells might be better described as cages.

In the entry area there is a desk and several chairs in the middle of the room. Seated at the desk is a middle aged human who runs the Shore Patrol and serves as Jailer as well. He is usually in a foul mood because he would rather be back out to sea but that is not to be because he has only one arm and one leg. The missing leg has been replaced by a wooden peg leg. On the stump of his missing arm is a metal claw that is obviously intended as a weapon rather than a substitute for a hand.

Law enforcement is aimed primarily at thieves, looters and those who would disrupt the routine of business as usual at the Waterfront. The Shore Patrol do not bother with simple matters like drunkedness and fighting among the Sailors. After all, the sailors need to enjoy themselves.

A young Katta approached the desk, His shoulders were broad and his figure was lean and graceful however his muscles while strong had not reached his peak making him look skinny compared to professional soldier his young vivacious eyes and lustrous hair denoted a young age probably just past his teens.

-“Serale, good man I’m happy to inform your problems have ended I Ramon Sharik son of Rakary son of Rigula have come to join you, I will become the greatest pirate hunter the world has ever known and I assure you that if you give me a chance this town will become the safest place in all Arakmat”

He spoke with the confidence of a man (tiger?) who has not yet suffered a considerable defeat therefore considering himself as invincible.

The Shore Patrol Officer exhibited just a hint of a smile. Here a not yet full grown Katta was ready to tame the Waterfront. The Shore Patrol Officer swung his good foot onto the desk and left his peg leg touching the floor.

"Well my boy we don't hunt Pirates in this here town. As a matter of fact, we don't hunt anything or anybody. We don't care if people get drunk. We don't care if people fight, so long as nobody gets killed deliberately. We don't allow killing if its on purpose and we don't allow stealing. Other than that, the boys can pretty well do whatever they want. Don't matter if they're Pirates or whatever. Pirates need to have a tad of fun too.

"You still want to be a Shore Patrol?"

Ramon was not a brave cat; he had too much imagination for that, but one of the things he feared the most was people considering him a coward a stigma he had to live during a part of his life that seemed like eternity for him.

-“I would certainly prefer to be hunting down pirates and embarking in high risk adventures, but I accept your conditions just give me some time and I’ll assure you’ll have every murderer, thief and Dorin in this jail”

He in decrementing order of punishment, even do he considered to be a Dorin a higher offense than being a thief he still named them last because for a reason unknown to him some people liked the dog-breath species.

The Shote Patrol Officer shook his head and said, "Best not to hunt down Pirates. You might catch them and that might not be good. Pirates don't make too much trouble unless ya provoke them, so we just leave them alone and they pretty much stay in line.

"If ya have every murderer, thief and Dorin in this jail then it'll be too crowded in here for me to sit. Just let them all have a good time and don't bother looking for trouble, it'll find you soon enough. Make yourself be seen and things will take care of themselves pretty well."

Ramon grinned fiercely a mixture of determination and self-confidence-“If trouble will find me then let’s not keep it waiting.Were do I sign?”Ramon parents had been killed by pirates so he had more than a reason to hate them, but truth to be told he never thought what to do if he ever catches one, this part is blurry in details and high on imagination. During some fantasies he would make them pay swift and efficiently with them never knowing what hit them, in others they would recognize him and say:
-“Oh, it’s you. I knew attacking a noble Katta ship was a mistake now I’m doomed and it’s my entire fault.”
Standing in this office now made him excited as he felt part of his dreams was finally coming to life.

The Shore Patrol Officer replied, "Good enough, you're hired, nothing to sign. The pay 50 is crowns each cycle. You get free meals at the Imperia Rescue Mission and Hiring Hall. At the end of each shift you get a generous measure of grog right here. You get two uniforms, a cutlass and a cudgel. You work seven brightenings every cycle and get off for three brightenings. All new foljks start on the night shift. You patrol everything on the Waterfront. Don't bother with anywhere else. Your only authority is on the Waterfront."

The uniform was a dark blue jacket, light blue trousers with a red stripe on each side and a white peaked helmet.

"Any questions"?

A great general once said that a soldier will fight long and hard for a bit of colored ribbon. The uniform itself was not particularly fancy and the meal and wine just another low cost method to keep soldiers satisfied, then again that reasoning is one made by a cynic or a mature person in the last days of his life, not a young Katta with dreams and illusion in front of him. Ramon grabbed the uniform and one could swear he wouldn’t be more proud if the jewel of the crown was given to him in his custody.
He put the uniform instantly (in a dressing room of course) and then threw a couple of wild swing in the air in front of a mirror witch in his mind appeared like deadly slashes cleaved in hundred of imaginary foes.

-“Thank you for this opportunity sir, I know I wont let you down”

With that said he quickly leaved the office he had an appointment with danger and he would hate to keep it waiting.
