Searching for Hope (Part I Dravol GF'ed)

The group that had gathered around the crumbling statue finally reached a new point. They were ready for action. Two groups had been formed one to lead the investigation and the other to gather information.

Ovan nodded towards Dravol as they stood at what was left of the statue. Ovan looked over the statues and the crumpled remains. He turned and focused once again on the dracon who was his cohort for this excavation. He walked out to what remained of the crowd. He called out to them, “Please if there is anyone who was here when the statue first started crumbling please come forward. Also any one who has been in the gardens before the crumbling today pleas also come forward.” He indicated to a location “Please line up there.”

He walked back to Dravol. “How should we go about this?”

"Well we can either work together both asking the same person questions or split up. Or split up the people into two groups, If we do it that way it might be better for you to speak with the public well I speak with the guards. The guards will be more likely to be able to relate to me, well the public looks to religous figures for support so they will more likely to speak with you. If I find anyone in the guards to be prejudiced against me then I send them over to you and if you feel that there are those that you speak to more likely to speak with me then send them over to me." Dravol really only had those two suggestions, his speaking skills had begun more and more able to speak with others even though he still had a problem speaking in front of a crowd.

Ovan stood listening to Dravol. "I agree." He said with a respectful nod of his head. "I don't deal with soilder much so that would most likely be best for us." He nodded towards Dravol and left him to question the guards.

Dravol turned towards the guards that had been gathered, "Serale all, I am Dravol Arlock, The Governor Roland Moonstar has named me deputy Prefect. If you don't mind then I would like to ask you all a few questions. First as one group and then individually." He started quickly with the question, "Whom here was on guard in the Plaza when this terrible event happened?" Once he got a vague idea he asked, "Now whom here witnessed the crumbling itself?" Once he got that together he then spoke out, "All of you whom witnessed the statues crumbling please line up starting here." He tapped on one tile of the plaza with his wooden sandal. "Those who were on guard duty in the plaza but did not witness the event I ask that you be back here in half a candle mark. Finally for those of you who were on duty somewhere else in the city at the time please come back here in one candlemark. I am sure that you all have jobs to do so I will try and use as little of your time as possible." Dravol turned to the guards lining up, "at ease I will speak to you all individually." He then motioned for the first one to move away from the rest of as he walked out of earshot of the rest of the guards.

The guards moved around as they were ordered. Several departed to return later, but eventually one walked forward Dravol. "Yes sir?"

Dravol looked the man up and down, "Well I just have a few questions that I will be asking you. First off I want as detailed of an account of what happened as possible." Once the person had finished with his story Dravol would continue. Where you were in the garden and all that."Did you see anyone suspicious in the area?" Dravol waited again, "Did you hear anything suspicious?" Once the guard had finished answering Dravol's questions Dravol dismissed him and called on the next guard. He would proceed down the line asking all the guards that had witnessed the statue crumbling the same questions.

The guard noded as he was asked several questions. "I was stationed here in the guardian." The guard said in a clear voices. "It had been a relatively clear and frankle boring day. I can't say for sure who exactly was and wasn't here. Really no one of interest passed through. Most of the people happened to be children and the elderly." He said by way of explanation. "The statue was fine one moment and then the next was begining to crumble. I am not sure why. No one came close to it or climbed on it."

Only a few guards had actually witness the statues start to crumble most of them had arrived shortly after to see it in the early stages. All there stories were the same. No one say anything out of the ordinary.

Dravol listened to all of the guards intently everyones story was almost exactly the same. "Thank you all for your time, Serale all and may Diana watch over you." Dravol watched as they departed, none of the guards had given Dravol any leads. Hopefully someone in the next group would be able to tell Dravol something useful. Well he was waiting for the next group of guards to report back he surveyed any crowds that were still gathered looking for anyone out of place. He hoped that the investigation would lead somewhere. "This travesty has to be solved," Dravol said to no one in particular. Well he was waiting for the next group Dravol moved towards were the statue one stood and knelt and began to pray. Praying always centered Dravol's mind and he needed to remain focused.

Dravol couldn’t feel anything as knelt and prayed. There was neither good nor evil here it was almost as if there was an absents of anything resembling spirituality. The air around here seemed almost thick with something that was just unexplainable. There was no wind, the suns seemed to almost stand still in there orbits around the world. What ever had caused this hadn’t left any lasting impressions.

Eventually Dravol could head the sound of feet behind him as the next group of soldiers arrived. They didn’t march instep, but there footsteps seemed to be almost silent as they walked forward. They to were stairing at the sight of the statue before them or what remained of the once great monument to Diana.

Ovan was also quickly going through his selection of citizens. He was not getting much more out of the regular citizens then were Dravol was at getting out of the guards. Ovan paused for a moment to walk over next to Dravol and to also kneel down in prayer before to the goddess.

It was almost as if it was some sort of que. The Soldiers and the citzens also went down on to one knee to seek the guidance’s of the Gods and more then that the return of there blessing upon the holy city.

After a few minutes of everyone kneeling in prayer Dravol stood and turned waiting for the guards to stand. Once the guards had stood Dravol spoke to them, "In order to cut down on time I will question you all in groups of three. Now I want you to line up and three of you come up at a time." Dravol waited for the groups to gather and motioned for them to come forward. Once they were in front of him he asked, "first off I want each of you to give me as detailed of an account as possible of the time that the statue crumbled." He listened to each guard intently, he then asked, "did you see any suspicious activities at the time?" Once they had all answered he asked, finally did any of you hear something happen or get a feeling that anything was going on?" Dravol continued going through the guards asking them all the same questions.

The guards stood at attention as Dravol once again started to ask question of the guards. These guards had been farther away from the statue and so it was that none of them had actually been witnessed the collapse of the structure. Many of the questons asked were answered with little more then then a similar story to that of the first group of guards. Until....

One young katta told the repeated a story that sounded on par with that of the others in his group and in the groups before him. It was the question about a suspicous character that caused a differnt answer.

"I didn't see anyone suspicous at the time of the crumbling, but about an hour before there was a human who seemed to be trying hide something or hide from someone."

Dravol perked up, "What did he look like? Where did he go? Did you see what he was hiding or who he was hiding from?" Dravol had not meant to fire off questions like that it was just this was the first clue of any kind that he had gotten. He brothe in a few times. "I apoligize for that," Dravol slowed down and asked each question separately. He waited for the Katta's response watching him silently.

The Katta swayed back for a moment in responces to his superiors onslaughter of questions. The katta tapped his chin with his pawed hand. "He was short for a human, with brown hair, nothing really spectacular." He commented in the way of Katta's.

"I couldn't tell what or who he was hidding from, but he did head towards in the directions of the city gates, now that I think about it." The katta said with and expression of dawning understanding. "He was dressed in green pants though, and had some sort of black chocker on as well."

"Okay I want you to go tell the captain of the guards to look for this man. We need to try and find him before he escapes." Dravol turned to the group of soldiers left, "Okay you are all dismissed please inform all guards that have not returned for now that the questioning is over for now. Dismissed," Dravol saluted the remaining guards and began to make his way as quickly towards the city gate as possible. He hoped that people would have the general response most did when they saw a running Dracon, move out of the way. Whenever he had to he would squeeze through crowds.

The guards saluted as their temperary captian dismissed them. The priest looked up from his own questioning of the civilians as the Dracon departed. He wasn't sure where it was that Dravol was heading so it was only a moment that he paused to look before turning back to the civilian he was talking with.

The gardens themselves had been cleared of all none esential personal and the streets themselves seemed strangle empty for such a large city. It was only a short moment before Dravol arrived at the gates. These guards hadn't heard about Dravol's appointment so they watched with concern as a dracon ran towards them.
