Bladewyn pondered it for a moment, then said, "A house would be more fitting, I think. It's just my son and me who will be living there, but I expect that we'll be entertaining guests often."

She expected that the assistant aedile was going to ask next about her budget and how much she'd like to spend on the place, but that was information that Bladewyn herself wasn't clear on yet. So she decided it would be best to come clean about that information, since the office was bound to find out soon anyway.

After a pause, she continued, "It so happens that I'm... ah... I've been appointed Thane of the city, starting at the beginning of winter. When I met with His Imperial Excellency, I believe that he mentioned that there was a house set aside for the Thane, but that it had been vacant since there hadn't been anyone in that position recently. Do you know anything about that?" She gave the woman a smile; it was going to take a lot of time to settle into Diana as the city's Thane, but she had to start somewhere, right?

The Assistant raised an eyebrow. "Let me get you Aedile Vita. She could help you with that better then I could." She said with a smile. She stood and went into the other room, and returned a moment later.

"Vita will see you."She said showing her into the room.

Vita was sitting behind her desk, but stood up and smiled at the young woman. "Please take a seat." She waited a moment and said. "I of course will help you move into the Thanel Manor, but first I need to see proof that you are the next thane." Vita knew that a rite would have been issued from the Princes office.

Bladewyn waited patiently, then folowed the assistant into Vita's office. She thanked the other woman and greeted the Aedile, "Serale. Here is my writ from the His Imperial Excellency."

She reached into the simple satchel at her side and retrieved the writ, contained in an leather envelope with a sealed wax upon a wooden disk. When Vita opened the envelope, she would find a document with edges decorated in raised gold scrolling, with the Sovereign's insignia watermarked in the center of the paper. Bearing Milo's recognizable left-handed signature, Vita should find that the writ answered any questions she might have about the veracity of Bladewyn's claim.

As for the new Thane herself, she stood patiently in front of Vita's desk with hands clasped in front of her, waiting for the Aedile to throughly examine the document before they could proceed.

"Please take a seat." She said as she looked over the papers. The she set them down and smiled at Bladewyn. "Well let me be the first to welcome you Your Excellency." He said folding her hands in front of her. "I will send word to the Thanel Manor and get the staff to prepare everything for your arrival."

"I am glade to see a Thane. The Council will be happy."

Bladewyn sat down at the Aedile's suggestion and returned the woman's smile. "Thank you very much. I'm looking forward to getting settled both in the city and in office."

At the mention of a city council, Bladewyn straightened up excitedly. She had been eager to discuss the current political scene in Diana with a local, and clearly the Aedile was one of the best people to approach just for that. "When does the Council convene? I'd like to meet with them soon to have a general discussion and to become familiar with each of them.

"And come to think of it... Is there anything that you can tell me, anything I should know in the meantime?" She leaned forward with a genuine smile. It was clear that Bladewyn was quite eager to step into her new duties as Diana's Thane.

Vita nodded her head. "They meet once a cycle. Currently it consist of myself, a representative from the Church, another from the Vigils. The Tower of Serenity sends a faculty, and a few other members who represent various aspects of the city."

She thought for a moment. "The druids of Carmelya, under the Archprelate's orders have taken custody of public and temple gardens and turned them into farms to supply the city and local country side with food. There are plans to keep that going until we get the first harvest from farms around Diana." She said with smile. "Once that is done though the people will want their public parks back, and more importantly restored. Dianaites have a passion for the parks."

"There are currently a bunch of under ground groups shipping in illegial items. There has always been a couple groups, but since the inactivity of the former governor, and in the chaos of the schims they have actually managed to become stable groups."

"Are the city council meetings open the the public, or just to members?" she asked. The meetings in Jaedaxia had been held less frequently--it was either once a month or once a season--and they had been available for members of the public to come and witness decisions and put forth suggestions of their own.

She nodded in approval at the mention of the parks being turned into farms. "Especially with Candaceburg and other agricultural towns running short during the winter, it's important for each town to have a reliable a supply of its own."

She frowned when Vita began to tell her about the illegal shipments. "What manner of illegal items? And are the Vigiles or anyone else doing anything to investigate into the groups' identity, or at least those of their leaders?" Perhaps, she thought, this would be a good first quest for her as the new Thane, to prove to those who doubted her experience that she was ready for the job.

The Aedile nodded her head. "At the begining of each month the council meets in open session, it is during that time, reports one last months projects are given reports, and proposals for the next months projects are presented. The other meetings are just follow ups, and in case anything happens."

"We are looking into them, and the vigils have been able to classify them into five groups, but we are still not sure as to who there leaders are."

Bladewyn nodded and took brief notes about the upcoming city council meeting. At this next one, she planned to familiarize herself with the current city projects, but also bring up some ideas of her own.

She frowned when she realized that there wasn't much information known about the smugglers, but she was determined to uncover more for herself. "I will personally lead an investigation into the smuggling," she told Vita, and planned to do some exploring after their meeting was done.

"Is there anything else we should discuss? Otherwise, I was planning on setting up my office and preparing for the city council meeting."

"Excellent." the Aediles said. She paused. "Advice meet with the Archprelate and some of the prelates as quickly as possible. You job will be so much easier if you have their support. Also if you would like I can call the commander of the vigils and we can meet with you in private about some issues should be told about in private away from paid ears."

"Yes, I would like to do that. Please let me know when the commander can meet. Perhaps one of the Vigiles could accompany me when I investigate the smuggling."

She stood from her chair and shook Vita's hand. There was much to be done, and already her mind was racing with ideas. "If there isn't anything else...?"
