Weapons Of Mass Awesomeness [Self-Mod Spellbreaking]

Autumn, before the final battle against the Xet

War. It had been building up to this since the first invasion an era ago. Jade had fought every chance she had and because of the various battles she had been through, she had a great many scars as well as loses. Each battle made her wiser, knowing more and more what she needed to bring down her enemies. Aganadara had always been at her side but for reasons, she was unable to use it therefore she needed something else she could count on. As a spellbreaker, she was capable of crafting and she intended on giving herself as much of an edge as possible. She didn’t want to go on the mission she and the others would be going on unequipped.

While in Demios, the island she considered her home, she took the time away from various duties she had on the island to spend some time crafting. She needed to be prepared for her time against the Xet because this would likely be it, the final battle to take place. She was aware that she would be sent off to kill some things and for the first time she would be without Nymira. It was painful to consider so she chose to put her energy into her crafting rather than considering what she had lost when she had went against the gods.

Small glass orbs sat in front of her on the bench in her workroom. The door was closed and the window open, the smell of the sea flowed through the room and caused the drake knight to smile. She had considered many things in regards to the mission she would be taking with Vaishen and the others and she had decided that Emrys would remain here on Demios where he was safe. He would stay to protect to the island if necessary.

The workshop was filled with bits and bobs that she used for her spellbreaking, traps of different variations on the shelves as well as items that were to be focuses when she got around to it. Her seeds that were filled with different arcanic essences were housed safely as she didn’t want to run the risk of them breaking and releasing the pent up contamination within. She was careful in that regard.

Focusing on the glass spheres, she first focused on her connection to the Material Plane. She took a few deep breathes and within moments she found Clara, the sound of the ocean helped as did the cool breeze. Opening her eyes, colours danced in front of her eyes and the feel of different essences tugged at her almost playfully, especially in the direction of the place she kept her seeds. Ignoring the seeds for the moment, Jade picked up one of the glass orbs and focused. Warping the spheres didn’t take very long and soon she would have three glass spheres that fit into the palm of her hand comfortably and were capable of holding what she wished within them without breaking. Working with a mage would have made the process go more smoothly but she didn’t have that option anymore so she had to make do with the arcane contamination she had gathered over the months she had been working on it.

A metal plinth was set on the workbench and Jade set the first two seeds out, a small crow’s skull and a wolf fang, readying a medium of water with a mixture of her own blood within. She had heard of a spellbreaker who preferred such methods but Jade only did it when she worked with death essence as it seemed most appropriate.

With all of her items in place, she began the laborious process of drawing the necromancy contamination from within the skull into the medium as well as the mysticism contamination from the tooth. It took a great deal of concentration but it wasn’t as straining as it had been when she had first started out. She took her time and guided the contamination into the medium, watching and waiting for the medium to become a solid which would show that it was time to move on to the next step.

Candlemarks passed and soon Jade would move on to the next part. She placed the glass orb into the medium and moved the plinth aside, careful with the seeds as they was delicate. There were many ways to shape the essence within to take on the properties that you wanted, some made rituals and drew signs, some told stories or sang songs and others poked and prodded. Jade’s own approach wasn’t too fancy but it worked for her, she had a plan for the orbs and thus she spoke of the enemy, describing them as though she was speaking to a person rather than an object. She talked about her encounters with the Xet as she prodded at the substance with her tools, she knew what she wanted for it and it would take some time but soon the orb took on a sort of green glow to it. Within the orb swirled a green substance, dangerous within but contained for the moment.

Pulling the orb out with a gloved hand, Jade would set the orb aside and let it cool down. Spellbreaking was something that involved a great deal of trial and error, she would have to test out her own little version of an acid orb but she would wait until she worked on the other items first. For now she would set it aside.

Secrets :
Item created - A small hand-sized orb with necromancy and mysticism contamination within that is much akin to the spell Acid Sphere. It can be thrown at an enemy and with a spoken words they will explode, spraying acid onto whatever is in the area.

One creation down but she wasn’t finished yet. She would spend all brightening there if she had to, longer if it meant she might survive another ordeal against the Xet. They were able to resist arcana but could they resist reforged arcana? She’d have to see up close. A hand brushed lightly over the dagger on her wrist and she sighed, peering down where Aganadara had slept beneath the flesh of her skin. It had been her greatest weapon against the Xet but she needed to work on creating other items that she could use. Eyes peered at the gloved hand that hid the netherite crystal that had been absorbed into her skin; she’d kept it safe and hidden from everyone. She hadn’t told anyone, not even Vaishen. No sense really.

He couldn’t change it and neither could she.

The corruption existed within her but so far she had yet to see anything come of it. Perhaps she’d be safe from it once the Xet incursion was stopped.

Removing the skull from the plinth, Jade replaced it with a stone that had been part of the ruins of an old clinic that housed many Thaum. It was no surprise that so much contamination had been there and seeped into the stone, making it the perfect seed. Seeds didn’t have to be fancy, just so long as they had an echo of essence within them to call to contamination of that same essence.

Jade had come to find, since she had learned from her mentor how to mix contamination, that mysticism was handy for most of the things she chose to create since it gave her more control over when her items worked and such. She had many seeds that housed mysticism essence, it helped that she had lived with an archmage mystic for a long while, plenty of contamination to harvest there as well as around the academy here on Demios.

Brushing her white hair from her face, Jade sorted out another medium for her next creation. The orbs were rather boring to be fair, not much creativity behind mimic spells but they were necessary. Red wine filled the bowl and Jade sighed, red wine always reminded her of her time spent with Duncan which was kind of the point. He had been a big part of her life at one point; there was no way she could forget that.

A soft sigh escaped her lips as she went back to work, pulling the contamination from both of the seeds, a long process that was repetitive but also almost soothing in a way. She was working up her arsenal so that once she faced off against the Xet she would have some surprises for them. They weren’t as powerful as they could be but she would get stronger and then watch out anyone who thought to get in her way, mage or not. She’d have to survive first of course but she had every confidence that she would. The gods loved toying with her too much to actually let her die permanently.

Slipping into the medium smoothly, it became solid much like the other had and she repeated the process before, removing the plinth and setting the orb into the mixture. A repetitive process, she poked and prodded while talking of the radiance of the sunlight and the desire to blind her enemies so that she could slip in unnoticed and dispatch them easier. Talking and prodding, she kept focused and worked until the orb took on a shimmering colour on the outside, almost like a pearl while the inside shone brightly like a mini-sun. It was absolutely beautiful and Jade felt proud that she had accomplished it.

Setting the sphere aside next to the other finished creation, Jade took some time to get herself a drink and walk around so her legs didn’t seize up. She would be here for a while and she planned on finished before she needed to pass out.

Secrets :
Item created - A hand sized orb with Thaum and mysticism contamination within. Can be thrown and upon a spoken word, it will explode and release a blinding flash of light that can work as a signal, a distraction, or can blind any who see it.

With the orbs set aside, Jade turned to her next project. A large bandage roll was on her desk and she switched out the wolf fang that held the mysticism contamination inside and focused on siphoning out the rest of the contamination from the stone as there was still plenty inside. She hadn’t needed a lot for the last project but this one was full on Thaum because as she had since learned in battles against the Xet, healing was a necessity and she wouldn’t go in without some form of healing. No one on their ‘team’ was a healer that she knew of so why not be ready for anything that came her way?

Going through the process of warping the bandage took longer than expected since it was tricky working with cloth. She wanted the fibres to be strong enough to hold in the contamination while at the same time still pliable and able to be wrapped around a wound without being too uncomfortable. Jade went through cutting the bandage and then warping it so that she had enough bandages; one never knew just how many wounds they would suffer. As she was not very strong in her training, she couldn’t create anything that was capable of healing a wound completely but she had an idea of what she would create.

Much like the other two projects, Jade went back through the same process of changing the medium. With this project she chose honey, something she was experimenting with and so far had no problems. Running her hands over the cloth that she planned on trying out first, she thought back to the times that she had almost lost her life or almost lost someone close to her because she had been brash and impulsive. The bandages wouldn’t change her impulsive nature but hopefully they would aid in her chances of surviving the next time she ran head first into danger.

Drawing the contamination from the stone, Jade hummed softly as she worked, there was so much that she had to do and little time to do it. Great deal of repetition and though she didn’t have much in the way of Vis reserves like mages did, this was exhausting work. She would likely finish up with the bandages and work on her weapons in the morning.

It was only when the medium had solidified that Jade looked away and found that the suns had since fallen below the horizon and the moon had risen. It had become darkening without her noticing, that was how intent she had been on her crafting. Gods…no wonder she felt so damn sore and hungry. Placing the bandage into the honeyed Thaum energy, Jade spoke of the time she had watched her drake Emrys bleed out from a wound dealt to him by the accursed Xet Queen Ivais and how helpless she had felt at his potential demise. She never wanted to feel that way again, she wanted to be able to stop such things from occurring because Jade Alanon was not one to be helpless.

Had Jade been any less of a Jade, she might have teared up as she remembered the almost loss of her bondmate with such clarity. He was alive but it could have turned out so different. Poking at the ghostly shapes within the medium, Jade would soon finish with the bandage and place it with her other finished creations. She would work on more bandages later so that there was enough to keep her team alive long enough to finish their objective.

Secrets :
Item created - A bandage infused with Thaum healing essence. The bandage is able to seal a wound that it covers, the entire wound must be covered by the bandage for this to work and it stops the person from bleeding out so long as it stays covered. It does not completely heal a wound.

It was at this point, as Jade put the seeds back where she kept them, that she felt she needed to stop her crafting and get some rest. It took a lot out of her to do so much and her head had begun to hurt from seeing so much in Clara. Leaving her workshop for the evening, Jade had something made for her and found herself collapsing into the softness that was her bed. In mere moments she was asleep.

The next morning came and Jade found herself once again in her workshop after her morning training session. The battle against the Xet had been on her mind constantly and she didn’t like to admit that she was concerned about the possible outcome. Concerned not only for herself and those she considered close but also for Demios. If she fell then who would lead them? Of course they could find someone else but no one quite like Jade.

She had to survive, she had plans and these buggy bastards weren’t going to stop them now. No one was.

The spheres and the bandages were placed elsewhere since they had been finished and now she had something more important to focus on. Her weapons. That and something else she had come up with that very darkening as she slept. An earring was held in her hand, a simple item that she had found on the beach of Demios at some point. It wasn’t very fancy and she hadn’t worn it but it was an experimental piece that she wanted to see if it worked. She first began with warping the earring and then the necklace that she wore around her neck, a silver dagger that she had been given by Duncan some time ago.

It would take longer for this so she chose to do it first, since she’d be working on infusing not one but two items at the same time. Given that they were both small items, she didn’t think it would likely make much of a difference. The fang had been used up thus she needed to sort through her seeds and find another that held mysticism contamination since that was the big one she wanted to work with at the moment. Jade was well aware that she would be exhausting a hefty supply of arcane contamination that she had collected over the seasons, it would take her some time to recollect it all but this was important and well worth it.

Retrieving a coin that held a significant amount of contamination within, she placed the seed on the plinth and brought out the red wine medium that she had used before. Slipping into Clara once again, she went straight into crafting. Moving the contamination from the seed was the easiest part though it took some time just the same. The coin glowed as the essence slipped out of it and down into the medium, infusing the liquid until it became a solid.

Such a strange thing, there were still many things about spellbreaking that she didn’t know but she planned on finding out some brightening.

Now for the interesting part.

Placing the earring and the necklace into the bowl, Jade took her tools and began to prod at the mixture as she often did. Force was her thing, as many knew. She spoke of the many times she and Nymira had moved undetected due to their telepathic communication. It was something Jade had known intimately and thus was able to talk about it in great detail, the feel of it and the handiness it provided.

It took longer than expected but the contamination seeped into the items and was refocused in a new way. She would test the items out later but for now she needed to finish her weapons while she was in the crafting mood.

Secrets :
Item created - A necklace/earring combo that can be incorporated into other kinds of jewelry. Infused with mysticism contamination, the wearer of this item is able to communicate telepathically with someone wearing a similar piece made by the same spellbreaker. They have to be able to focus to make it work and the person they seek to communicate with must be within twenty feet of them or it doesn't work. Causes some strain on the mind when used for too long.

The necklace was back in place and the earring set aside as Jade gathered her weapons. The sword that she had received in the Arium battle was left alone as it had an unknown arcanic feel to it that Jade didn’t wish to bother with. Her shurikens as well as a few daggers she had purchased were her main focus. A quarterstaff was set nearby, offering potential for experimentation as she had plans for the quarterstaff as well as the lovely sharp pointies. Many ideas buzzed in her head but to be fair, she needed to be practical with what she chose to do.

She chose one of her shurikens and a dagger, placing them on her workbench and placing a ring next to the coin. The ring was one she had been given by Tiyribi and it held force essence.

The medium was once again switched out for blood and water. It was a routine at this point, moving from one point to another without much thought.

Pulling out the serewood crystal she had found when she had awoken from a very strange dream, Jade looked into the stone and focused on recounting a memory for that dream with perfect clarity. It was when she had crafted items using raw contamination, strange as it might have been but she knew, somehow, that it was possible. Not the shaping with raw contamination but rather being able to create the items that she had then. A weapon capable of seeking out flesh and then returning to her hand with only a thought. It was something that she knew how to make but she wanted the memory to be fresh while working with her dagger as well as the shurikens. She wouldn’t have just one item that sought out flesh, her shurikens would never miss if she did this and she aimed on it.

The contamination flowed into the medium and solidified as it had every time before and Jade rested the dagger and shuriken into the medium and focused on the serewood crystal. She didn’t need to speak aloud to the mix, her intention was quite clear, replaying itself in perfection clarity as the process continued. Shurikens and daggers that were guided towards the flesh of others would make it easier to fight a Xet, skimming past the carapace to the juicy flesh.

Only time and practice would tell if this had been successful. She had every anticipation that her spellcrafting had been accurate as it had yet to let her down yet but one never knew. There were many unknowns with spellbreaking as well as the Xet. Only time would tell.

Secrets :
Item created - Dagger and shuriken infused with sorcery and mysticism contamination. Much like it had in the dream world, these weapons will be guided towards flesh once thrown and will return to her hand, hilt first with the dagger and shuriken to her fingertips so not to impale her hand, with just a thought. Range as well as obstacles to be taken into account of course.

OOC:

Thread approved, +1 spellbreaking exp for Jade

Adjustments to dagger/shuriken: mysticism/sorcery contamination, "slightly guided" projectiles that will increase chances of hit, line of sight range for callback
