Winter's Ball Mixing Business With Pleasure... [Open]

TS: 14th of Melora (Corinalia) Era XVIII Post Fractum.

It was early darkening and the Asunder Estate was alive with light. The sky was clear and the stars were bright and twinkling. The moon was out and a gentle breeze blew in from off the sea. The leaves of the trees rustled like quiet whispers in the moonlight. There were paper lanterns leading up the the house ensuring that the guests didn't get lost.

Several youths wearing livery of red and black were standing clustered near the gates of the estate. They would line up and straighten as a carriage approached. They were assigned as footmen and would open the doors of the arriving coaches as well as escort the guests to the front door. They would ask the person's name, which they would then whisper the name to the Herald, also dressed in the new livery of House Asunder, who would then announce the guests before they entered.

The Asunder home had been arcanically altered on the inside. The inside of the house at once looked like the perfect blend of civilization and a beautiful spring forest. Near the walls were several large pots with trees, flowers, and ferns growing out of them. There was green, a cacophony of green, wherever the guest looked. There was a diverse collection of tree specifically; oaks, aspens, cedars, dogwoods, elms, poplars, hemlocks, all grown with druidism. Branches of the trees grew together like vaulted arches within the rooms connecting over the ceiling and causing their blossoms and leaves to fill the rooms with the sweet aroma's of nature.

From the main ball room there are three rooms that the pages are keeping an eye upon. One is a room that most likely functions as a dining room during a normal brightening. Several paper lanterns were hung from the branches of the trees, lighting the room with a gentle hue which was accented by the blossoms of the trees. There were chairs around the perimeter of the room for sitting with a large table covered with every possible kind of sea food platter that the Leap of Faith in could cater. For the none seafood lovers there were dishes made with poultry and beef as well. Of course if one was completely against consuming meat there were also all veggie trays although those were few.

The paper lanterns in the next room had a definite pink color to them causing a rosy hue to fill the room. This room could have been a study or family room at some point. The room had several tables and chairs within it to allow the guests to sit, rest, eat and relax. Waiters with trays of champagne, wine, juice, water, and Terramariquen Rum if it is requested. The room is directly across the main hall from the food room so that the guests could easily find a table once they had their food.

The brightest room was easily the ball room at the back. This room was lined with trees that grew up the dividers of the windows so as to not obstruct the darkening sky and allow the beautiful view to inspire the presumably gathered couples to trysts of romance once they returned to their own homes. While the main lights for this room were also paper lanterns, there was a large Halo of light, concealed somewhat by the canopy to create the illusion of the moon being inside the house and full.

While the three rooms were well lit and full of life the main hall was darker. There was a spell in effect in the main corridor that created a small rain storm. It was combined with an area effect create water spell which allowed the water to recycle from the storm and be sent to the clouds above. It wasn't a harsh storm and no one should be getting wet, but it was there to 'encourage' people to be in the other rooms.

A small quartet sits in the corner of the eating area room, playing music to entertain the guests while they eat. There was a small stage set up in the main ball room with a 6 instrument band playing music, waltz's, fox trots, even the occasional cha cha when asked for. Of course both musical groups were familiar with Lutran music at the request of Louie, the ex Thane's lutran assistant.

oocThose of you invited to this thread please start your post with the Herald's announcement. Thank you much!

oocI'm going to post to this thread about once a week until it gets going. Please be aware of this and if you are participating try not to hold up the thread. Thanks :D

Carnasch had been busy all brightening making sure that this plants were in good condition, and that his rain spell would not ruin the party. Or the building for that matter. He was already mostly dressed for the Ball, wearing a pair of new pants, a dark earthy brown color, and his black boots, which for the first time since he had bought them, were cleaned and polished. He was also wearing a new linen shirt, but as that was not the entiretly of his outfit for tonight, and his spells seemed to be opperating correctly, he ran upstairs to go finish getting ready. He was supposed to be escorting Kala that evening, and he didn't want to be late from picking her up.

In reality, it wouldn't that hard to do, he just had to make sure he hadn't mussed his hair, which he had, and put on his vest and jacket. So, he went about trying to fix his hair, which was something he honestly had never even considered before until one of the kids asked him if he was going to comb it at least. Then he put his vest on, which was the same brown as his pants, and then a dark green tux-esc jacket over that.

"What kind of a coat has tails?" he thought to himself as he checked himself in the mirror. He buttoned it up and it fit him rather smashingly, although he was the last person who would have admitted it. When he was done getting dressed, he headed back downstairs to wait for Kala, hopefully she hadn't beat him to it, and the two of them could be announced together.

Assuming that she was either there when he arrived, in which case he apologized and explained what had happened, that he had been fixing the rain spell for the upteenth time, or he waited for her to arrive, and then he offered her his arm and told the Herald, "To be announced, Miss Kala Ritesfroth, escorted by Carnasch Rawrk." He hated using his last name, as it was his father's as well, but he had none other to use, so it would have to be so.

Dante had gotten dressed early and had checked over the party arrangements a few times. It was a difficult situation. He had considered having some sort of business luncheon for the business owners around the isle. The situation changed when Niven returned from her travels and Dante decided to host a ball instead. This was mostly because, although he did want to make business contacts, he wanted to spend time with Niven more. As inviting the business owners to the ball as well would allow him to do both it seemed the logical to arrange the event thus. What he hadn't expected was the disappearance of his Royal Majest Milo Le'Vienne and the subsequent raising of Tristan Le'Vienne Thane of Demios to the throne. Dante had already promised Tristan an invite and would never not keep a promise, not that he had expected Tristan to attend the ball anyway, but had sent the invitation regardless. As fate would have it Tristan apparently was attending the event.

Dante shook his head clearing it of the apprehension he was feeling. He had enough to worry about without worrying about Tristan's arrival as well. This night was all about Niven to him, he would just be a gracious host and hope everything went well. Once he checked everything over he headed back upstairs. He had on his green thigh length dress coat with a white tunic, both had the wing slits in the back. He had on dark green full length trousers. He wore a thick brown belt around his waist giving him the decided 'forest ranger' type look. He was in his winged eshlahier seeming for Niven's sake although in any other event he would have been wearing his Diantar seeming.

The dracon had helped his children get ready, although neither his oldest daughter nor his 2nd oldest son were with the rest of the group, the family waited patiently for Niven to arrive before descending the steps. All were in matching dark green clothes. Jar was escorting Nikki while Chariras escorted Nelly. The boy's outfits matched their fathers while the girls' matched Niven's.

Assuming Niven joined them Dante would offer her his arm. The herald would announce "Earl Dante Asunder and Family escorting Miss Niven Soliel."

With a smile Dante would escort Niven to the ball room, if she allowed him. The children following obediently after. The group would pair off and Dante would bow to Niven, "Would you honor me with the first dance?

Kala waited patiently for Carnasch to arrive and would allow him to escort her down the stairs. She was dressed in a long ankle length gown made of satin material which was light purple in color with a large pink ribbon tied around her middle into a bow in the back. Her feet were adorned with high heel purple shoes. The elf's hair was in a french braid that went down the center of her back.

When she and Dante had been planning the ball, it seemed as though they were planning a darkening that might, perhaps, someday take place. Yes, they went through all the motions, visiting the caterers, shopping for proper attire and for whatever decorative materials they would need, but it was all very surreal. Now the brightening was here at last and Niven couldn't believe how nervous she was. This was her very first ball as well as the very first time ever celebrating the holiday in which the ball was intended for. Dante had made sure that she was aware of how special this day was to him because of her. She was also aware that this was an important darkening for him for business reasons. In her own mind, Niven had personally resolved to do whatever she could to assist the dracon she was so deeply in love with with his business contacts, but the whole thing seemed very daunting and she hoped that all would go smoothly. If the elf would have had any idea that the ruler of the Empire was to be in attendance, she most likely wouldn't have been able to come out of her room. Dante, whether he knew it or not, was wise to keep this from her.

As the brightening wore on and the candlemark of the ball approached, Niven made sure that she assisted the little girls dress in the clothing she and their father had chosen for them. They, too, were very excited and Nikki especially was very chatty. While dressing the little redhead, Niven was unable to get a word in edgewise as she chattered on and on about the decor and the food and her dress. Niven was sure the little lass was over her word quota for the day, but her excitement was contagious and very cute. She arranged the little girl's hair elegantly and would help Maya with her's as well if she wished. Dante came and took over for her, looking very handsome in his outfit for the darkening, so that she could go and get dressed herself. The smile Niven shot him spoke volumes about what she thought. She had been a little surprised at first when he had informed her that he would be in his Eshlahier seeming for the party. He knew that she didn't mind what seeming he was in, but he had insisted for whatever his own personal reasons were.

Slipping off to her room, Niven quickly undressed and washed up so she was fresh and clean. Once dry, she dabbed some sweet smelling perfume on herself, making sure not to over do it. Moving to her wardrobe Niven pulled out the dress she had been looking forward to wearing since the brightening she'd bought it. She'd merely been waiting for the right time. She slipped the silk garment over her body. The dress hugged her curves in all the right places and showed some skin without being overly revealing. She then brushed out her long blond hair and arranged it into an elegant up-do. Niven checked herself in the mirror to make sure that her dress was sitting how it was supposed to and he hair was just right. Then she exited her room.

Meeting up with the rest of the family, Niven smiled. They all looked so perfect. Dante offered his arm to her and Niven took it shooting him a smile. When he smiled back, all of Niven's nerves melted away.

The herald announced them and Niven allowed Dante to escort her to the ball room, the family, minus Jar, in tow. Upon arrival, Dante bowed to Niven and asked her hand for the first dance. Niven curtsied and nodded, giving her hand to Dante allowing him to lead her into their first position.

Carnasch found Kala at the top of the stairs, and he gave her his arm to hold as was expected of him. Not that he wouldn't have if it werent, because he loved having her hold it. Her hands were always warm and soft, and when she leaned her head against his shoulder, it was almost as if he could feel her love for him in rivers, flowing from her to him. It also inspired a feeling of appretiation and protectiveness in him. Luckily that protectiveness did not grow into an over-aggressive state of being, also due to her influence on him. He had never felt so at peace as when she held him.

Once the Herald announced them, Carnasch lead Kala down the stairs into the main room, which was still raining nicely he could see. He very nearly tripped though, because he almost missed a step when he looked from the plants back to Kala. She was radiant, and although he hadn't told her yet, he was very much enthralled by her. The plants around the edges looked wild and entangled, just as he had grown them. It would be very hard for anyone to be a wall flower when it came to dancing, because there were no walls to lean on. However, if one needed assistance in asking a lady to dance, there were plenty of real, live flowers that could be plucked and given to said lady.

Not to long after the couple had made their way to the main room, it was almost completely devoid of others who were attending, Dante and his family, as well as Niven, entered, and Dante began dancing with Niven in the back room. Carnasch assumed that Kala would want to join in the frivolities, but the vagaran didn't know how to dance, and he had been distracted by the prospect of planning the decorations, so he hadn't learned.

Never the less, he was brave enough to try and wing it, although as he asked Kala if she wanted to dance, his mind was racing to find a solution to this dilema. He considered a spell, but decided to forgo it, since he didnt have one prepared at all and creating one on the spot would be very difficult while dancing.

Instead, what happened was Carnasch staring at his feet to make sure he didn't step on Kala's, and he did his best to try and not glare as he became frustrated with his lack of coordination. He also sought to distract Kala from his current frustrations by talking with her. "You look amazing tonight Kala. I almost tripped down the stairs because I was to busy looking at you to notice them." The Vagran was not the smoothest of beau's, but he made up for it in honesty.

Tristan L'Evienne is a glorious SuperheroTristan L'Evienne is a glorious SuperheroTristan L'Evienne is a glorious Superhero

Tristan L’Evienne arrived, as always, a little too late, but this time it had other reasons besides the need to have his entrance watched by as many people as possible. About two candlemarks earlier five ships, among them the Sovereign of the Seas, had arrived at the harbor of Demios. They had caused quite an uproar. The island had not been prepared for something like that. Apparently it had been some time since a ruling monarch had visited the Fire Islands. And of course it was much harder to get ready when you had ten knights and a hyperactive lutran accompagnying you. It had taken almost a candlemark until all the proper preparations had been made and everybody apart from the sailors had left the ships.

At first Tristan had thought about riding to the Asunder Estate on his giant spider. Demios was one of the few places where he could bring Bebe out and not cause people to attack him or run away screaming, but one of his numerous assistants had told him in no uncertain terms that it wasn’t proper for the Intendant of Aelyria to ride a spider to such an important social event. Besides, the Knights of the Black Rose were no fans of the large, mean looking arachnid. And thus an elegant carriage, drawn by four white horses made its way through the streets of Demios. Four knights rode behind the carriage, four in front of it, and one knight rode left and right to it.

~~~~~ ~~~~~ ~~~~~ ~~~~~ ~~~~~
„His Most Imperial and Royal Highness, Tristan L’Evienne, Intendant of Aelyria“, the leader of the knights told the boy that approached the carriage at the gates. He couldn’t believe his ears. Wasn’t it obvious who the man in the carriage was? Was any other man ever accompagnied by so many members of the Order of the Black Rose at once? Of course the knight’s thoughts were hidden behind a carefully polite mask. The ten knights all dismounted at the same time and positioned themselves left and right of the carriage where they stood stiffly as the boy opened the door.
Tristan breathed a sigh of relief as he left the carriage and smiled at the boy. „Thank you“, he said and inclined his head a little before he walked past him. It was the first time that he had left the capital since Milo’s disappearance, since he had become Intendant. No matter how important his new position was and how much depended on him now, he’d begun to feel a little like a prisoner. He was glad that he was back on his island. Not even the fact that his host this darkening would be a dracon could ruin his good mood. He’d survive Dante’s presence.
The Intendant of Aelyria was dressed in an elegant, dark suit and a white silk shirt, and on his feet were polished boots made of black leather. The clothes had been expensive and looked the part. Louie, his assistant was dressed in his customary green suit and top hat. The little lutran walked a few steps behind Tristan as they approached the door and waited for the Herald to announce Dante’s newest visitor. Louie was no member of the royal government and no nobleman, and protocol had to be observed, to some extent at least – even though it was mostly thanks to him that this ball was taking place.
OOCMy apologies Carnasch, but until we get the other thread resolved I don't think it is prudent to post anything about your and Kala's relationship.
Dante led Niven into first position, smiling largely. His violet Eshlahier eyes sparkled with contentment and happiness as he led Niven in a waltz. "You are the most beautiful woman in the world Niven Soliel. In that gown you put even the beauty of nature to shame," he complimented her as they danced still smiling. They gracefully moved about the floor as for the most part only Dante and his family were yet in attendance.
The dracon had spent a great deal on this event, but so far not even the caterer, Helgga of the Leap of Faith, had arrived. If he wasn't enjoying himself so much he might have been offended. Dante's ears perked up however as several of his friends from the Majesty arrived. The herald announced with a momentary glance downward, his expression unreadable, "Master Old Beard, Master Deritz, Mister Charlie and spouse, Mister Olie and escort, Mister Keran and escort, Mister Meran and escort, Lady Maya Asunder and Mister Pip, Lord Kel Asunder and Miss Kendria."
The group had on their best clothes. The clothes were simple but clean and well kept. Charlie was wearing a light brown jacket with a dark brown shirt and kaki colored trousers and dark brown shoes. His wife was a pleasant looking brunette lady with a cream colored gown and matching shoes. Olie was wearing a fancy green jacket with a white tunic, brown pants and brown boots. His date was a pretty blonde woman with green eyes and a lime green dress of a very modest cut. Keran was wearing a brown jacket with a matching brown tunic and pants and soft boots. His date looked a great deal like him, perhaps a sister, and was wearing a yellow gown. Meran was dressed the most fancy out of all of them. He had on a blue coat and blue pantaloons, with a white cravat and black tie and shoes. His date was a very pretty dark haired woman in a very low cut blue gown. She had more make up on than any other woman there and looked like she enjoyed whatever attention she received. Pip was wearing a green jacket, white tunic, and brown trousers and shoes. Maya was wearing an emerald green gown, of matching cut to Niven's. Her long hair was twisted into an up do, but left a long cascading tail hanging down the center of her back. she had just a hint of rouge on her cheeks, so little in fact that it might just be that she was blushing from all the attention Pip was giving her. Kel of course was matching Dante's attire in complete exactness and Kendria was wearing a beautiful light blue gown that just seemed 'right' on her. Her hair was cut too short to be done in an elaborate style, but she did have the ends curled upward. Both the dwarf and Deritz simply wore their regular leather clothing with wool jackets and caps. Rather than heading to the ball room they headed straight into the room with food and drinks and made up large plates for themselves before heading into the dining area.
The group made their way to the ball room, well those with dates, and with smiles for their hosts headed for the dance floor as well. They started in on the waltz, dancing about along the line of dance in elegant flowing circles.
When the youth told the Herald who the next guest was the Herald finally broke character and his eyes nearly bugged out of his head. He looked at the man, then the Lutran, then the boy, then back to the man as if to ascertain whether or not they were serious, but it was definitely the ex-thane and he had been taken to the capital to assume control of the government, so with a nervous swallow and a voice that cracked at first, requiring a throat clearing, he clearly stated „His Most Imperial and Royal Highness, Tristan L’Evienne, Intendant of Aelyria“
At the announcement of Tristan's arrival Dante pulled Niven into a stop and smiled at her, "There's someone I would like you to meet." He graciously led her off the dance floor and out of the main ballroom. Assuming Niven allowed herself to be escorted thus Dante led her toward the entrance.
Tristan would see an eshlahier dressed in woodsmen greens and browns escorting a beautiful female elf in a green gown. Dante approached and bowed low, giving Niven enough room and releasing her arm so that she could curtsy, as was appropriate when greeting the ruler of an empire. Rising again he greeted his guests with a large sincere smile, "Your Royal Highness, Master Louie, I'm so pleased you both could make it, albeit a little surprised. I assumed you would be too busy with affairs of state to attend a little backwater ball such as this. You do me a great honor by being here."
As Dante led her across the dance floor, Niven was grateful for the time they'd spent in the garden practising. She was able to follow his lead with little trouble and was glad to be a decent partner. He green dress swayed as she did and flared out slightly if Dante led her in a spin.
As the Herald announced the incoming group, Niven's gaze followed Dante's and, although she probably didn't notice, she was still following Dante's lead perfectly. Niven smiled as she saw Maya and Kel among the throng and deduced that they were with the crew of the newly re-named Majesty. Niven noted that Maya was enjoying the attentions of her date, though it was causing her to flush a bit. She shot Dante an amused glance and then looked back to note Kel's date. Kendria, seemed to be a pretty sort of girl, once out of the grubby clothing she wore when working on the Majesty, though even dressed so finely it was easy for the elf to see that she was a bit of a tomboy. Niven smiled to herself, remembering how much of a kindred spirit she found the girl to be, having grown up a bit of a tomboy herself. She was pleased to have such a level headed girl a good friend of Maya's.
The group joined the hosting couple on the dance floor and it pleased Niven that the guests were arriving and the party was getting started.
The Herald announced the next guest to arrive and Niven's head snapped towards his direction, unsure that she had heard correctly. Dante stopped the dance at that point and said he wanted to introduce her to someone. Niven's jade eyes widened in disbelief. She allowed him to lead her off the floor, but her compliance was more due to the fact that she was in shock than anything else. Immediately, Niven's free hand went to smooth her dress and then to her blond hair to make sure it was still in place.
When His Royal Highness came into view Niven thought she was going to die. Never in her wildest dreams did she think she would ever have the honour of meeting the ruler of the Empire. Dante escorted her until they were immediately in front of him and he released her arm and Niven curtsied low. When she arose, she allowed Dante to speak and smiled at the Intendant. The elf would only speak to the ruler if he deemed her worthy enough to speak to first.
Tristan was impressed and pleasantly surprised as he walked through the door. The inside of the house looked like a nearly perfect imitation of a forest, and the lanterns that could be found in every room gave the whole thing an almost romantic atmosphere. He’d arranged a ball himself when he had still been Thane of Demios, but it hadn’t been like that. Even if Dante Asunder was a dirty dracon, he obviously knew how to celebrate. Tristan had to concede that. Behind him, Louie the lutran had a similar look on his face. The little furry creature was smiling, and the smile on his face widened as he noticed that Dante had indeed hired musicians that were familiar with lutran music, as he had requested.
Tristan waited patiently until the herald had announced his arrival, and then he looked for Dante. He assumed that the dracon would come to greet him. Instead an Esh’lahier in green and brown approached him – with a very beautiful female elf on his arm. The Intendant smiled at her. He was rather partial to elves – even though he disapproved of his sister’s marriage to one. The only one of his women that he had ever taken to the royal palace had been an elf. Who was she? And come to think of it, who was the Esh’lahier and why was he talking to him now? He couldn’t remember ever seeing the man before.
Louie noticed the confused look on the Intendant’s face, nudged him and whispered, „I think this is Mister Asunder. As you may recall, Your Highness, dracons can shapeshift.“ Tristan’s eyes widened a little, but then he nodded. He didn’t know whether he should be worried that dracons could imitate other races so well or rather be envious. Being able to shapeshift and pretend to be somebody else would be a very useful skill to have for the Intendant of Aelyria or even a pirate like he had been before he had somehow ended up on the throne.
„I promised you that I would be here, Mister Asunder“, Tristan replied. The tone of his voice and the expression on his face were very polite, fitting for the man who had been put in charge of ther kingdom. „I saw no reason to break that promise just because I was asked to succeed my brother on the throne. But you must introduce me to your companion. I had no idea that you were married.“ Was she a dracon as well? Or a real elf? And was she indeed Dante's wife or just his girlfriend or a random acquaintance that he had taken to the ball for some reason?
As everyone was meeting and greeting the new Royal Intendent, more and more people began to arrive at the ball. The person calling out their names, smiled and greeted each of them before finally calling out a name. The herald as he was called, would continue to be the first to greet the various people arriving at the ball. The catoring was done by the Leap of Faith Inn and Tavern, and they had set up three tables for a serve yourself fashion of meal. Amongst the food happened to be Dragon Boats, Fillet Mignon, Seafood Medley, and Earthly Delights. On the Desserts table happened to be Fairy Bananas and Melting Chocolate Cake. The appetizers table was filled with asparagus and goat, tomatoes and gouda, eggplant and zucchini. There was also a variety of drinks arranged upon a fourth table, one holding ale, cider, fine chismean wine, as well as some fruit punch for those under age. The Cider and fruit punch were arranged in grand fountain formation more for looks as people could serve themselves by dipping their glasses under the fountain. It seemed that the Leap of Faith Inn and Tavern had done everything Dante had asked for.
As more people began to arrive, the herald would announce serveral prominent names, "The Aedile Flitz and the leader of the Fire Keepers, the Black Fist," were finally announced, along with the shop keepers from the Wyvern Shoppe, the Spring and Summer Pet Shoppe, the Blue Diamond Rental Docks, McCoy's Fishing and Boats, Khaldran's Writings, and Drif's Hardware store. As Flitz walked in, her thelyri's visage was beautiful within a blue gown, with a silver Tiara atop her head. She had really decked herself out over this party, and even decided to bring a guest, as anti-social as he was, he had agreed to come.
His real name was unknown to most, save for his title amongst the Fire Keepers, the Black Fist. He had a dark visage upon him, and wore a black cloak with a black glove on his right hand, the symbol that he was their leader, and reported to nobody but the Thane of Demios. He was shaven for the event, and had his hair cut short, spiked brown hair as it almost tossed and turned above his head as he walked. Looking around, he didn't say anything at all, but merely let Flitz do most of the talking. He had a young visage about him, and it was obvious he was newly inducted as the Black Fist, a newer leader to the Fire Keepers, and not some elderly man that most might have thought him to be. His prowess with a Drake was unmatched, and his reputation generally preceeded him, as a good person, but anti-social was all...
oochope it's still ok to post here!
Hay'aan timidly made her way to the party, to the Ball. But she liked Dante and they had shared experiences together. Also, Lilly had practically shooed her out of the house. It was more than three months since Hay'aan had given birth in the middle of a storm, surrounded by nothing more than gadgeteers and ghosts. In that time the young Minister of Education for Demios had worked hard but had rather neglected her social life. She and Klue were so busy so much of the time, and their youth mingled with the sheer number of children to combine with jobs which led to a hectic life. Hay'aan wouldn't have it any other way, of course, she adored every one of her children, amongst which number she included those she had not given birth to but which were hers as much as if she had.
That darkening she arrived, dressed in a white dress which was eloquent in its simplicity. It gathered together at her waist, accentuating the slenderness of it, rare in a woman who had given birth so many times in so short a space of time. The straps of the dress criss-crossed at the back and the skirt fell to the floor in folds. She wore her long black hair down and curled down her back, loose save for the single plait which nestled on the left side of her face. This was a permanent feature in the young Air'riela. When she moved her head to look around, the slight silver glitter which she had adorned her hair with shone, catching the light and giving her hair a sheen.
The white dress was clutched in at her waist with a shining silver clasp and she waited until she was allowed in and then she walked in, looking around and then turning back to glance behind her. She wore minimal but effective make up and she smiled, gently, her face lighting up and her eyes twinkling with pleasure.
Then, she looked around to see if there was anyone there that she knew. Shy in crowds, the young Arakmatan human stole a gaze and delighted in the decoration of the room. It was so unusual!! It was simply delightful!!
Dante noticed the Intendant's reaction to his approach and immediately ascertained the reason for it, "Forgive me your highness. I am Dante." Blushing slightly he explained, "It is just that in such close social situations that some of the more prominent physiological features of a dracon can be unappealing." He paused and cleared his throat with a little cough before continuing, "In other words I didn't want to accidentally gouge, scratch, or trip anyone." He didn't really feel like expounding that the 'someone' was the lovely elf woman next to him and that they were practically engaged, but apparently he was going to have to for when the ruler of the nation asks you if this is your wife you better have an eloquent response for him that will also please her.
Looking abashed Dante realized that he hadn't made proper introductions yet, "Ah of course forgive me. Your Highness, Master Louie, may I present Miss Niven Soliel, my intended." The dracon in the eshlahier seeming took half a step back so that the two could greet each other formally. Once the pair had finished the introductions Dante bowed to them. "Please gentlemen make yourselves at home. There is food, including the Leap of Faith's famous dragon boats, fine chismean wine, help yourselves. Also I'm certain that there will be a few ladies that would love to dance with such important individuals regardless of whomever they arrived with."
Dante knew he was treading on slightly dangerous ground, but he of course didn't mean Niven. Sure she'd probably grace someone with a dance if they asked her, but the dracon had no doubts about who she 'really' wanted to spend the evening with. "Will you excuse us gentlemen?" he inquired politely as he offered his hand to Niven and assuming she accepted led her back to the dance floor.
The dracon couldn't have been more pleased by the Leap of Faith's catering service. They were performing excellently and making the darkening truly one to remember. The eshlahier grin the dracon wore did nothing to hide this fact. He took a moment to enjoy the atmosphere before leading Niven into first position and gracefully waltzing her about the ballroom along with two of his oldest children, their dates and whomever else wished to participate. At the end of the next dance number Dante asked Niven, "Are you having a good time?"
Looking nervous as he pushed his hair out of his eyes, Dante asked her; "Well I should probably go and greet the new guests. Would you like to accompany me?" It was obvious by the look in his eyes that the eshlahier wanted Niven's company, but if she didn't feel up to it he would understand. Regardless of being alone or with Niven, Dante would start making the rounds. He'd of course greet each shop owner with the standard, "Hi I'm Dante Asunder and this is my intended Miss Niven SolielOf course if Niven doesn't come with him just ignore his introduction of her.. Glad you could make it. Please make yourself at home."
Flitz however he knew personally. She not only had helped broker his original business contract with the Leap of Faith, but she was also his realtor for the home this event was currently taking place in. Bowing formally he would place a quick peck on the back of her hand, "Lady Flitz, It is I Dante. I'm so glad you could come although I don't think I've met your date..." Dante would extend a hand to shake by way of greeting "...I'm Dante Asunder." Assuming Niven accompanied him he would then introduce her as well, "May I present my intended, Miss Niven Soliel."
As Dante was about to go and greet Hayaan a young Vysstichi, dressed identically to the dracon in an eshlahier seeming beat him to the punch. He was only in his early fifties, but the Vysstichi was in good shape and decent looking although not as handsome as his brother to be sure. He bowed formally to Hayaan, "Serale my Lady. I am Jar Asunder. Would you do me the honor of dancing with me?" If Hayaan agreed Jar would offer her his arm and escort her to the dance floor, readying himself in first position to start a foxtrot (as that was the next song coming up) with the lovely woman.
The pretty elf had plastered a pleasant smile on her face for the entire conversation with the Intendant and flushed slightly when he assumed that they were married. Granted, he wasn't too far off and both she and Dante had expressed their desire to marry at some point. Dante seem to gracefully take the comment in stride and introduced her to His Highness as his "intended." Niven smiled largely as her beau took a step back and she curtsied once again presented her hand in greeting, though only she would know that her smile was more due to the clever response of Dante's than anything else. It was true, they intended to marry, yet they were not engaged, nor was she his wife… yet. "It is a great honour to meet you, Your Highness. We are most pleased that you found time in your busy schedule to accommodate us," Niven said, sweetly and sincerely.
Dante bowed again and unless the Intendant said otherwise, Niven would curtsy again as he excused them and allowed her 'intended' to lead her back onto the floor for another dance. Her jade eyes sparkled at him, as he lead her around the floor in a waltz. When he asked her if she was having a good time, Niven's eyes spoke volumes before her lips said a word. "Oh yes," she said, smiling. She glanced around the room and finding Tristan again, she looked back at Dante. "I had no idea you were so well connected! I never dreamed that I would ever be so fortunate as to meet the ruler of the Empire. You are so full of surprises."
As he pushed the hair out of his eyes, Niven smiled lovingly at Dante realizing that the nervousness on his face mirrored that she was feeling inwardly. She squeezed his hand in comfort. When he ask her to accompany him to greet the new guests, Niven smiled with a confidence she didn't feel and nodded. The look of his desire for her to in his violet eyes left her wanting to do nothing more. As Dante introduced her to each guest, Niven would smile warmly at them.
When they came upon the Aedile, Niven curtsied as Dante bowed. She looked at the woman's date with a smile, though inwardly she wondered why anyone would bring someone to a ball who looked so unpleasant. Dante introduced himself and then her and Niven smiled warmly again at the couple.
The host couple were about to move onto the next guest, a pretty young woman who was a vision in white, but Jar beat them to her. Niven bit her bottom lip and smiled as she watched their eldest introduce himself and then ask the lovely lady to dance. Niven shot a glance at Dante, wondering what he made of the situation. If the lady agreed, Niven's jade eyes would follow the pair to the dance floor and watch as they started to dance. "Another Asunder charmer," Niven would say teasingly to Dante, just loud enough for him to hear.
"Ah yes, the house looks splendid! I love what you did with the place!" she said as Dante greeted her. Turning her head towards the Black Fist, she smiled and he shook Dante's hand. "Serale, My name is the Black Fist, or at least that's what people call me... I'm the leader of the Fire Keepers, the drake riders of Demios. Flitz here thought I should try to get to know more of the people around here so she insisted that I come with her to the ball, and I must say, it seems that you've outdone yourself, the ball is fantastically put together," he said. Usually he was not a man of many words, but tonight was an exception to the rule. Flitz had made him promise to be social with the people at the ball, so he intended on being that way.
Flitz then looked towards Dante and said, "Who did you get to do your catering? The tables look absolutely delicious as well as those fountains that they've set up. It's almost like a complete work of art!" She smiled, and looked towards the tables, nearly licking her lips as she would like to definitely taste some of the food that they had set up. And turning towards Niven as Dante introduced her, she said, "You're one lucky lady, Dante is certainly a keeper!" Smiling friendly and all, the aedile then said, "My name is Flitz, and this young gentleman is the Black Fist... don't let his demeanor scare you, he needs to be this way for the job he has, but he is actually pretty decent once you get to know him!"
Each of the shop keepers that Dante greeted, generously greeted him back, and then began to dance upon the dance floor, or eat food, depending on their demeanor. None of them really stood out, but Dante was sure to have a chance to meet and greet all of them seperately throughout the night...
Jar Asunder asked her to dance and Hay'aan felt the familiar flush creep along her cheeks. She smiled, hopefully in a friendly manner, but she shook her headd, gently.
"My... um, that is my... my Miri Ozi, my... I'm here with someone but he isn't here. That is, he is late and I am not sure quite why he is late, but I. yes, I would very much like to dance with you. I am not quite sure what it is that is this dancing, but I will try my best."
She smiled and took his arm and it became quickly apparent that Hay'aan had no more idea of what a foxtrot was than she had of what a Dracon might prefer for breakfast.
She was an Air'riela and she was no more used to being led in a dance than she was used to living in a house. So, Hay'aan did her best, but it had to be said that her dancing ability was not, in any way, showcased by the attempt to perform a foxtrot.
As she fumbled her way around the dance floor, Hay'aan glanced at the door and wondered where on Telath Klue might be.
