The Midlands Gate
Approaching Daltina from the east was not much different than arriving by the west. The road that passed through the city was the same wide, well-travelled path on both sides, and the view of the grey granite walls of Daltina was identical. Even the guardhouse looked the same. In fact, the one difference was the small, paved path that broke off from the road just before the entrance, that led to Brightshadows and the surrounding buildings.
Daltina was well famed for its stunning parks and was a favoured getaway for the Enamorian nobles and other rich folks who had money to burn. The shining granite walls that surrounded the city managed to compliment the interior perfectly. Leading up to the gates set in the stone, twin doors made of ancient oak and steel was the road that led to and from the east of the Empire. It passed through the Enamorian Midlands to Port Alyxandrya and up into Centripax, among other places. Daltina was very much frequented as a stop over for people and merchants travelling from the east to the capital of the Empire through Charisma Pass.
Like any other walled city in the Empire, guards had been set to inspect visas of any potential visitor to the city. On sunny days, they could be seen guarding the small gated entrance that had been set into the larger portal to the city. When rain or snow were bombarding the city, the guards sheltered in the guardhouse, only stepping outside to unlock the gate and let approved travellers through.
The usual guard on duty was a spry old human man, his hair grey and thin, a standard short sword belted at his side. It was his job to check the visas of people entering the city, and he was very thorough about it.
NPCs
Gab Capalstan - Gab is a human in his sixties, who has nearly always been involved with keeping the peace in and around Daltina in one form or another. He is thin, but in his younger days used to be quite well muscled. His hair is grey and thinning, but his eyes are still bright green. Unlike most would, he does not resent being demoted to gate duty and is glad to keep helping out the city. He's lived in Daltina since his birth, and does not plan to leave it. He's friendly, likes making small talk and does his job well. He's also a mine of information concerning the history of Daltina and is a perfect person to ask about anything on that subject.

He traveled alone. The journey from Imperia to Daltina had neither been taxing nor eventful -just how the elf lord preferred. Subtle by nature, the Syl’rosyan Lord of House Mynendil had departed from Arakmat’s Capital with the confidence that those left behind could ensure the stability and subsistence of the Conclave of Shadows, an elfin supremacist faction that was beginning to spread like the pox –only the former had no cure.
Things would stay that way.
Although Nimavel Mynendil had initially been reluctant to leave Imperia, he understood that the venture to Daltina was vital. He needed to secure the footholds that the Conclave had already fastened upon regions of the province; Daltina’s seizure would guarantee that these footholds remained.
Appareled in a plain white cloak, the assassin’s undergarments were strikingly dull. A simple black tunic covered his chiseled upper body, and a pair of matching trousers loosely covered his legs. He wore nothing to rivet unwanted attention, and the few armaments that he possessed were concealed beneath the clasped folds of his snowy mantle.
After presenting an immaculately kept visa to the guard, the assassin passed through the gates without a second thought. His steps were graceful, purposeful, and selected so specifically that it was evident that he had been to Daltina before. And he had. He was here to see his Uncle, one of the cornerstones of House Mynendil and a key component to the Conclave’s spreading influence.

Not long after the council had been interupted and given the dire news that Daltina was potentially under attack, two runners were sent to either gate of the city, message in hand. The piece of parchment was handed over to the guards, stamped with the seal of the thane in order to make it official. They orders contained within were rather strange and alarming.
The guards muttered amongst themselves for a moment, and discussed the situation with the messager, who had nothing else to add to the orders. Eventually they shrugged and began ushering the waiting people in and out of the city as they wanted. After the majority of the crowd had been dispersed, the guards when about shutting the huge, ancient wooden gates of the walls of the city of Daltina, certainly for the first time in a few eras.
Those trapped outside would no longer be able to get into the city, but they was always the potential for shelter at Brightshadows Sorcery Academy to the west. Those locked out on the east would have to trapse to the nearest city for shelter - either Arconis or Taralon.
OOC: Daltina is now locked down from 29th=39th of Cyraxtum. This should give ample IC times to sort out the misunderstanding that has arisen. Within the third cycle of Cyraxtum character will not be able to leave or arrive in the city.

Come first light, men and horse belonging to both the 16th Maevewoods Guard Legion and the Imperial Marines approached the steady Gates facing to the east of Daltina, seemingly to augment the sentries there. Heavily armed, they brought with them more than just mere news, but new orders.
The reason for their presence was posted in the clear.

Of the several districts that made the city, come sunsrise, each contained at least one major checkpoint, and that was thinking conservatively. In the major streets and some of the smaller ones so would be erected these points of control, semi-permanent establishments that wrapped a tight hand around all forms of foot and land traffic.
At each checkpoint were soldiers, more of them, indeed more than was necessary to inspect persons and their luggage. They waited, standing, pacing, resting in simple wooden huts that flanked the roadways constricting the flow of civilians the way a dam does a river, effectively bottlenecking it. Only those that passed inspection were granted access, and the rest created a lake of disgruntled bodies.
Passing through, one would most likely find oneself stopped at the point of a gloved hand, briefly but respectfully interrogated, searched regardless, only then allowed to continue—if one was lucky.
Weapons were not yet in evidence, but that didn't mean that they weren't there. In total, this new idea did bring an atmosphere of tension, and aroused more than mere caution in all that it touched.
