Abandoned Necropolis
Along the eastern side of the Grand District lies an abandoned, unkempt plot of land. Along the small plains and hills of this piece of land rests numerous empty graves. The bodies that once rested here have all been dug up and burned until nothing remained here but the holes in the ground. These occur at regular intervals, although each one is slightly different from the last. Some of these holes are deep, others shallow. Several of them have dirt piled in or around them, while others appear to be completely empty of everything except the stale air that covers the entire area.
The statues and gravestones still stand watch over these empty graves—angels with their cracked hands held up in a silent plea towards the silent sky, delicately engraved marble stones whose clean, sharp edges have softened and withered away, once-shining markers of remembrance now left as dulled lumps of cold stone still standing only due to their inability to fall.
Scattered throughout are several mausoleums. These buildings range in shape and size, although all of them bear the marks of time and disuse. Vines curl up and over columns, clumps of dirt mar the surfaces, weeds have made their homes in whatever cracks they could find. The stone is crumbling—leaving pieces of stone surrounding each mausoleum, covered up only slightly by dirt and plant life. Any extra adornments—such as glass windows, elaborate carvings, or paintings within the buildings—have fallen into disrepair. Some windows are simply cracked, others are completely broken. The original designs of carvings and the bright colors on paintings have both dulled over time.
No person sets foot in this place any more. Once, this was where the wealthy and elite buried their dead. Now, it is simply a reminder of a past best left forgotten. It only remains to this brightening because of the tales of dread that accompany the place. No one wants to go near a cursed place that the gods have abandoned, and so this empty place stands alone, waiting for a use that will never come.
