The Tower of the Caretakers
The Tower of the Caretakers was located in Cheapside, situated as close to the east city walls as possible, the grey stone of the tall, wide tower a stark contrast to the almost sparkling pristine white granite the walls had been constructed from. It was said, that before the Caretakers over took the facilities, it had once been a water tower, left abandoned for eras. Regardless, after the attack of the Dark Alliance the cult had moved in, determined to make sure the horrific events that happened during the war never happened again. From that day froward, the burial of bodies in Daltina was strictly illegal and the deceased were passed on to the brothers of the Caretakers, to be burnt and kept out of the hands of anyone who could do ill with the remains.
That was several eras ago, and today they were known as healers of the sick as well as carers of the dead.
The actual tower was a large building, but not nearly large enough to accommodate all the brothers of the order and the various tasks they undertook. Only those who had dead to burn or the sick to heal entered the tower, under the strict scrutiny of the brothers who tended it, but it was rumoured that large basements and catacombs had been constructed under the stone structure for more space and accommodation.
The tower itself was nearly as tall as the city walls, the top flat and wide, without any sort of crenellations or wall defences. It was doubtful that there was even a way onto the roof, all the activity of the order was strictly carried out within the walls of their home.
The building also had a small amount of grounds, which were surrounded by a high grey stone wall, which was much newer than the structure of the tower itself. The entrance consisted of two wrought iron swing gates, guarded by two brothers of the order. They wore long grey tunics and breeches, the uniform of their profession, and each had a quarterstaff held in one hand. Whenever someone approached the entrance they would inquire after their business, and, particularly if the person was an injured party, one of the gatesmen would disappear into the tower with them to see they were guarded whilst finding a healer.
The brothers were often hard to tell apart, all dressed in the same colour and cut of robes with the cowls up, all sporting quarter staves when on gate duty. Often, if someone had a need to return to the tower a second time, they would somehow never manage to see or remember the same face twice.
NPCs
Matherin - A young acolyte of the order that looks very much like all the other members of the Caretakers, complete with grey outfit and quarterstaff. Visitors to the tower never know his name or even realise he is the same person they saw the last time they were there. His face is plain and unremarkable and his hair and eyes are mousy shades of brown. Like all monks he says little and goes about his duty obediently. Until he was eight ordinations old he lived in Cheapside with his family, at which point they decided they had too many mouths to feed and packed him off to the caretakers.[/center]
