The office of the Thane had only recently come back into use since the death of the Lord Protector in the Winter of Era twelve post fractum. Now the former Aedile, Kiri Barleyhorn, occupied the office and was the Governor appointed Lord Thane of Daltina.
The office was a bright, well-lit and decorated sanctum. A big window overlooking on of the courtyard gardens that the Aurora Palace contained was fixed in the back wall, letting in sunshine and creating a nice view to look out over. The walls, like the majority of the other sections of the palace had been built of white stone popular in Daltina, and over most of it maps and plans of the city and Enamoria had been stuck for easy reference. At intervals, the same wall banners that graced the other official offices of the palace hung, purple with the crest of Enamoria expertly embroidered in the centre.
Like many of the other offices, upholstered chairs scattered the room in order to make seats available for waiting petitioners or when private meetings were being held, though that was rare, since most business was done in the presence of the council. At the back of the room, behind the main desk of the thane stood two other chairs that could be used by assistants or temporary workers.
If one wished to see the new Thane they would need to first get past his receptionist, a woman of noble decent, hailing from a bloodline of humans and, perhaps in some far generation, a little elf blood also. She was a typical noble though, full of herself and judgmental about everything. When one entered the anti-chamber, where her desk was located, she would incline her head in greeting. ”Serale, on what business do you bring to the Thanal Offices and whom am I speaking with?”

A letter was delivered, bearing the seal of the city of Aelyria Prime. Once opened, the beautiful ivory parchment would reveal a most interesting proposition:
Quote:
TO: Kiri Barleyhorn, Thane of Daltina
Greeting from Aelyria Prime!
In an effort to assist the citizens of Aelyria Prime in choosing cities to peruse education, employment and recreational opportunities, we are in the process of creating a new set of offices to be named the Imperial Trade Embassy. Within the Embassy, we are offering one office, free of charge, to be used for promoting information on opportunities within your cities in the areas mentioned above. Of course, your city would need to staff the office, but my offices would be available to find suitable housing for said staff.
Please forward any inquiries or comments to my office as soon as possible. Tentatively, we would like to hear from all cities within the month so that plan can move forward. Our estimated date of opening for the Imperial Trade Embassy is the first of Summer.
Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing from everyone.
Sincerely,
Lady Liselle Vampyler-Sapientia
Governor of the Principality of Prime
Thane of Aelyria Prime.

A letter came by way of the famed valley between the Principality and the Sovereignty, delivered as it was by a Cencoris of the Imperial Marines, one who worked for the famed Ducor Navarch Isoroku Yamagata, commander of the naval forces along the Southern Coasts. It came by fifteen fast riders, heavily armed, comprising members of the Empress' Own, the Alyssans, the Imperial Classis, as well as the Imperial Marines.
Secrets :
9 Immanis, in the First Era of the Regency
of His Most Imperial Excellency, Milo L'Evienne.
To His Grace the Lord Kiri Barleyhorn,
Thane and Lord Protector of the City of Daltina.
Your Grace,
Greetings from the Imperial Capital!
Allow me to introduce myself. I am Alexis Sapientia, current Imperial Minister for War. We have met before, though I must say it has been quite some time since introductions. If you will recall the meeting of the Council come Ponutius earlier this era, I was then the Imperial Admiral, the very same person who came to bargain with your council with regard to upgrading Daltina's naval and land defenses.
I write first to make your reacquaintance, and second, to inquire as to the state of your city after the events of months past. It has not escaped my attention that much devastation has occured in the attacks on Malice, as well as Narim or Zerdargia, not to mention the attempted recapture of the either city by the combined Imperial Forces. It is in this regard that I write to express my most vigorous concern for the safety both of your person as well as of your city. The Empire can ill afford another Narim, or Paxia, or Zerdargia, or in your case, a defeat on the scale of Malice.
We wish to make known that the Imperial Legions and the Imperial Classis will make every effort to ensure the orcish menace of the Ire-ish persuasion remains firmly outside Taralonian territory, as well as to ensure that they do not arbitrarily roam the frontier and interrupt the peaceable lives of our loyal Aelyrian cives. This lies true with the forces of Malice. However, we likewise wish to make clear, in the strongest of terms, that it would most certainly be in the best interests of the provincial forces, the city militia, and the combined citizenry to take skill at arms and be prepared for any unforeseen eventuality. Extended training regimens and drills, not to mention sufficient healing facilities are among the responses we deem vital for the Sovereignty's continued peace and security.
I likewise wish to make note that the Fleet may once again make Daltina a port of call in the latter part of this month in the course of further active operations in the Narim area; should there be anything, anything at all we in the Ministry can provide to better assist the city of Daltina in these endeavors, should we be able to provide it, I harken to beseech thee, all Your Grace need do is ask, and it shall be given unto you.
Alexis Sapientia.
Imperial Admiral and Imperial Minister of War.
The missive was secured by an enormous crimson sigil bearing the seal of the Imperial Ministry of War, the Imperial Warbird wreathed in laurels of victory, bearing a baton, surmounting a crossed sword and a quill.
Included in the packet were a humble token of the Imperial Minister's esteem, a bottle of prized Lysandrian Sanguis, as well as a sufficient supply of prized Prime tea, surely sufficient for His Grace's personal needs for a good portion of a time.
Presenting himself to the office of the Thane, so did the cencoris stand still to await a reply, which would be rushed straight to Prime by means of the fastest horse or vessel available.
