Immanis In the Season of Winter, Era I of the Celestine Mandate, Era XV Post Fractum

She opened the door to the crown and scanned the room with narrowed. All things give this place seemed calm enough. There where more people in the room than what she wanted to deal with but chances where they'd leave her be if she where lucky. Finding an empty table towards the back of the room she slid into a seat.

She spent the time between order and drink taking in the room. It wasn't so bad here really. The only thing that was irking was the sight of couples enjoying their time together and friends in each others company. She had both once friends and if she only admitted it to herself some one she had loved. She shook her head to remove the thoughts. Both of those where gone and there was no need to want something she was not meant to have.

Then from some where in the tavern the sound of a harp could be heard and for a moment she let her walls fall and if one looked close enough her fingers could been seen plucking the air in time with the music from their place beneath the table. And maybe for a breif moment the wall came down and she was as she once was.

It was that time again, he was broke and desperate, he had been out of money for a cycle now and its the second brightening without eating. He need to find someone and strip him or her clean, matter a fact, if he could, he would sell his victim as a slave. Thats how desperate he was.

Once upon a time he heard about people getting mugged when they were drunk, logic told him drunk people are drunk because they spend their money drinking and if they stop its either because their out of money or passed out.

Nobody can pass out and walk home at the same time, so his victim will probably be someone who spent all their money already.

It wasnt worth it unless your prey was a noble, but then nobles in the crown was a rare sight. It was like getting to see the governor naked, once in a lifetime. Lesser nobles did visit more often but not as often as he would like.

Nevermind the details...

The crown, hed been there a few times, but never with today's purpose. From the entrance, he surveyed the location with a crooks eye, his gaze moving from necks to wrists, belts, fingers. Eyeing monetary transactions and ocasionally human female specimens.

Something called his attention, or rather someone.

Long black hair with three feathers in it, light honey skin tone, black cloak, black outfitt. A dark huntress? Thats what she looked like. Her looks screamed out to stay away, but then he noticed.

While she looked scary enough for him to stay away, her eyes, an almond color, seemed a lot softer then her apearence. Actually, her eyes looked like they were dark gray, must have been the light in here.

He wasnt here too look at women, so he eyed for a vantage point to take a good look at his suroundings. A table in a corner was just disocupied by a couple that decided they had enough foreplay, he raced a weary looking traveler to the table wich cursed under his breath when he lost to the thief.

He took a second sweep at the patrons and their value but his eyes fell on the huntress again. She didnt look like she carried much, she might have a huge purse under that cloak or she might have an axe for him, smart thing to do was not to take any chances.

He decided to use the un-smart aproach, he didnt have anything to loose but his life and who knows what he could win. His smart part told him it would be stupid to aproach a women with empty pockets, that just talking to this amazon look a like girl would end up in the wrong way but he discarded all those thoughts and made his move.

He called the traveler over and gave up the table for him, the travler thanked him and set his heavy luggage on top of the table, it fell with a loud thud as if he were carrying building blocks in it.

As he walked over to her, he was sarting to get second thoughts but he was already on his way.

He let himself fall into the chair oposite of her and sighed heavily, still not looking at her. He turned to meet her gaze, black meeting... whatever color her eyes decided to be...

"Seems their out of stock in tables, I hope you dont mind my company..." He said arching an eyebrow.

He should have studied her for a little while longer, she had some elfish in her, she was probably a hundred eras old and would act like if she was god or something.

'Wrong move...' He thought, regreting his decision.

She was drawn from her thoughts by the sound of a voice. She turned towards the sound and gave to speaker a good look over from head to toe. Arching an eye brow she slid out the seat. This one looked to be having a rough time of it. The again she was sure she was not the most inviting person here.

She considered her new table mate. He had the kind of look about him that she had seen far to often of late. If she knew what was good for her she would just walk away and save herself a whole lot of trouble. But she was bored and a bit of trouble could liven things up. Besides she had no doubt that she could get out of whatever mess he was about to get her into.

"The wrong approach huh? And what would the right one be?" She looked at one of the nearest tables with a smirk. "Should you be like them over there? Slipping in here with some grand tale of adventure in order to win my approval? By the looks of you, you've needed to come here for a while."

The Huntress turned towards him, the look she shot at him showed just how much elven blood she had in her. She mimicked his gesture arching her thin eye brow, he couldn't help smiling. She acted like she was going to leave but decided against it.

She looked at the nearest table with a smirk and spoke, he sensed that her words were filled with haughtiness and an air of superiority. After she finished he couldn't help laughing out loud.

This one had an attitude, he liked that... And she was straight to the point...

He straightened himself in his seat and placed his hands on the table, one next to the other. "That's child's play..." He smiled referring to the table. "...I don't think a fairy tale would win me your approval, you look like your smarter then that..." His lips were smiling as he tried to put on a dead serious look.

The reason why he was in the crown was strictly business, right now that was the last thing on his mind. He got sidetracked easily. He studied her eyes for a while, he couldn't read her.

He leaned forward a little bit, he wiped the smile off his face and switched his voice into his hypnotically smooth tone. "Well... I'm here for business..." He lied. "I'm not sure why you're here but by the looks of you, you really could use something to occupy your time..." He replied calmly tilting his head sideways, he let his words sink in.

After a brief silence he spoke again leaning back in his seat. "But that's just my assumption..." He touched his finger tips with his finger tips. "...And I don't expect you to tell me your business here..."

"I can state for a fact you not from around and don't plan on staying very long, you have all the looks of a traveler. I hope you enjoy your stay in the capital, If you don't mind I'll do my best to make it a pleasant one." He said half smiling again.

"By the way, nice outfit..."

She reguarded him for a second. He said he was there for business and he very well might be. She was sure it wasn't legal sort of business though. But he was right on the count that she needed something to pass the time, And besides they were in a tavern even if he had something planned he most certinally not do it here in plan sight of every one in the room.

A small part of her was curious about what would happen if she were to let this play out. "Childs play indeed. But then there are always those who fall for such flattery. I however to not."

She looked at the door and tired to guess the lenght of time it would take for her to get there if need be. Not that she planned to make an escape, it was only a passing thought but one she felt better in knowing. His next statement caused her to wince slightly, so much for blending in with the crowd, then again she had never been good at that anyway.

"Your best huh? You my late mother told me not play with strange men I run into in taverns. More likely than not your planning to follow me out of here drag me into an alley and slit my throat." She stretched her shoulders and shrugged. "Don't worry I'd do the same thing if I were you so there are no hard feelings about it. It catches up with you eventually I suposse."

He saw his words had the desired effect, the fact she was till there said a few of things about her, she wasn't afraid of him, she wasn't aware of his intentions and if she was aware, she was walking right into it. She was either brave or naive, the latter was unlikely.

The un-smart apraoch was working he was halfway there.

But... Now that he thought about it, his curiosity was itching, he wanted to know how this story was going to end.

So, was she going to be his target, or what?

She turned to look somewhere else, she was looking at the entrance. Was she expecting someone? Was she being cautious? Was she getting bored? In his business thee little details could give you a lot of insight on the target. His eyes fell on her slim neck, her skin was lighter there. "Nice..." He whispered. She had a tattoo on her collar bone, she turned back to him before he could get a better look.

She said something that confirmed to him she was just being cautious, she had a vague idea of how things might end but the picture she painted was too tragic, but not less likely then any other scenario.

"...Did she tell you not all men that you might find in a tavern are serial killers?" He chuckled. "By the way you conduct yourself I suppose your old enough to know who to play with and who not to. But even then you never really know for sure."

"So, darling." He started again. "Do I get to know your name at least? Or your going to be the dark huntress for the remainder of our conversation?"

"My name?" She smirked a bit before carrying on. "Now why would you want to know that? Come the next sun rise you'll forget who I am indeed. None the less you are an amusing one and I shall give it to you, I am Keegan and I only think its fair that you give me yours."

He, who ever he was not here simply to enjoy the scenery. Problem was she was she wasn't exactly sure what those plans were. Well, whatever they were she was sure her best interest was not for front of his mind. But she was a bit curious of how exactly.

She cocked her head to the left slightly and stared at him for a moment. "You look like some one I've seen before, Har'oloth perhaps? No. It is easy to do what you do here. There though that takes some skill, don't worry I'm sure you'll end up there one day I can't promise in what condition though."

She leaned back in the chair and gave a shrug. "Well, are you finish what you came here for or what? I must admit I wonder how you plan to do this."

"True...but who knows." He smiled, he had just asked for propriety's sake "Ghotha..." He introduced himself, he uttered his own name as an honorable knight would address to his king.

She stared at him for a while and he stared at her back, he raised an eyebrow questioningly and tilted his head to the side mocking her. She spoke again, her comments were filled with so much sarcasm.

He was really enjoying this.
---
He smirked leaning back in his chair. "Poisonous one aren't you? I like that..." He made a pause. "I havent been there yet, I've only been to Portshire a few time and Candaceburg once."

He thought about her question for a second . Was he done doing what he was supposed to do? He clearly wasn't. How would he do it? Things like this weren't really planned, just carried out with.

Its been a while since he had last chatted with someone like this, he was amused by her and he had to admit, he was starting to feel attracted to an elf. He shook that last thought out of his head.

"You know what?" He started. "I'm starting to like your company, matter of a fact I'm going to take the rest of the day off." He said smiling. "I think you're a lot more interesting then a few dozen crowns I might earn. You have an attitude I like and a pretty looking head with something in it."

He leaned forward again...

"I dont know... It might be just me but I think you're something else, and I'm a curious fellow." He complimented. "If you dont mind me asking? What brings someting as wild as you to a city like this?"

She covered a smirk with a drink. "Of course I am, they ought to have named me Nightshade." She still had no idea what all he was playing at. It was odd, but she couldn't figure him out. It bothered her most people were fairly easy to figure out, but not this one.

"Me pretty? Well you can think so all you want but I'll disgree with you." She stopped for a moment and cleared her throat and gathered her thoughts. There were some things you just didn't share with people that happened upon you in taverns.

"Lets see, once not so long ago, in Natura I was training to be a bard. The gods it seemed had other plans. I came across some one who had seen like he had seen better days. As soon as he was able to collect himself. As it turns out he was enslaved by well my mothers people. I couldn't deal with it. Every time I saw him I was reminded of what they did. So I left, and of chance ended up here. It seemed like a big enough city to blend in."

"So your family name is not nightshade, that's a shame, it fits you..." He said smirking back at her. "You consider yourself ugly then? I think your not unpleasant to look at."

He leaned forward and listened to her speak, a short while ago he had his mind in jacking someone and now he was befriending an elf woman, he really wanted to know how this would end up.

He tried to pry as much information as he could out of her short tale, she was from Natura, a lot of elves there. She was mad at her mother people, whatever that meant. She might be saying the truth or trying to sell an image of herself to him. He bought it, he added a point to her righteousness. She seemed to be running away of it all, in his opinion, she had picked the worst place to run away to.

After he finished he kept his mouth shut for a while as he thought about what to say next, "Well... If your looking to blend in you came to the best place to blend into, this a pretty blendable city. I don't think that's even a word." He voiced his thoughts and then scratched at his temple before carrying on. "I think I would do the same thing If I were in your place."

He called a waitress over and ordered a tankard of commons beer, it cost him a a crown and 2 silvers, he had a crown and five silvers less. "I really hate to pry in your personal matters but just that's how we are over here. Too damn nosy, sorry... Do you plan on settling here or your just looking for the right place to blend in?"

The question had hit her unprepared. She tried not to look to unsure of herself as she thought about it. Truth be told her plans weren't that developed yet. She had just grabed what she could and left, she hadn't had any real plans to end up any where.

She wondered if she could in fact stay here or if it would always seem this cramped and crowded to her. As much as she tried not to she missed country side near her old home. But she knew even if she elft here she would not be heading there for a good while if ever.

She shook her head slightly, clear her thoughts. "Its okay given the conversation its a logical question. But I'm afraid I can't say one way or the other. I have no reason to go but the reasons why I should stay are like wise slim. Lets just say I'll stay as long as I need to. But don't tell me you planning to live your whole life here?"

She stopped to gather her thoughts before she shook her head slightly and answered him. The only place she had to go to was the place she was tying to get away from. "I understand..." He empathizing with her.

"Now... I... I don't know, I don't know any other place, I don't have the need to go anywhere else... I think..." He thought about all the nonsense he just said. He had no idea of where his current life would take him, in the worst case he could die being a petty crook. Alternately he could start moving up in his crime career and join a gang or form his own, then he'd eventually find the need to go on "business trips" but relocating his home from Prime was doubtful. "No, that's not true, I have a... A few goals and if I need to go somewhere else to achieve them then I will but I'll probably end up here."

Ghotha looked away, he was not very satisfied with how things were going out for himself, but then he was responsible for the way he was headed. This wasn't the right time to think about that.

"I think its your turn to question me now." He smiled.

She watched his reaction. It seemed to her that he hadn't any more of a certian future then she had. She had learnt to accept it was all. She could understand the reaction though. The though that you had no idea where you would be and were you would go wasn't a very comforting feeling to say the least. It could take a very long time to get used to it.

For a moment she was at a loss of how to reply, this was obviously a sensative subject. She did not want to pry, however she was curious. Certinally this is not what she pictured when she came here. However they where here and this was what was happening. For better or for worse she pressed on. She gripped by the feeling that she was not in control of the situation any longer and she shoved it aside.

"But what to ask? So if I were to stay on here for a bit, what would I be able to expect from the city?"

He waited for the waitress to bring his drink over.

"Whatever goal it is you want to achieve in this city youll be able to do it, you just need to focus on it and work hard for it. Whatever your looking for, fortune, pleasure, revenge, justice." He paused and took a good long drink, when he spoke again his voice had a lower tone. "It isnt that easy of course, the city wont exactly give anything to you, you have to earn it. And then what little you might obtain from it you need to take care of it because it will try to take it back."

"But that will be the case wherever you go, seems you dont have anywhere to start out from, so its up to you to choose where youre going to do it."

He looked at the wooden tankard on the table, he thougth he had it rough out there, at least he had someplace to part from in his life, wherever his decisions would ultimatly lead him.

"Thats the way I see things, I hope it works for you..."

Of course most places where like that. Any where one went in life they had to take what they wanted for themselves. They may be lucky and have people to give them what they wanted. For the rest of the world, it was just a matter of staying in a place long enough to gain anything. She
had a habit and she knew it of leaving when things in a situation no longer suited her.
It was thw way of things she made peace with long ago. But that one wasn't one to do so. He'd any one to get what he thought was his. It was like asking the question of a mirror and getting a mirror answer. "Well it all work out? I don't know. None of us really knows if anything well work for us. But we try anyway. If we're lucky they work out and if they don't we learn something anyway."
