Some people just don't know how to behave... [open]
The Third Cycle of the Month of Junctior in the Season of Autumn ,
of Era III of the Celestine Mandate (Current Pattern)
Era XII Post Fractum, the First Era of the Reign of Empress Arabella the Just
It wasn't an uncommon look in the Crown Inn and Tavern to see a group of young people drunk. People liked to drink and, with the wide collection of the wine and Ale offered at this place, it was obvious that some of them would be too drunk to think for themselves and respect the other customers. That particular group moved throu the Inn, stumbling on a few misfortunes enough to get in their way. One of them even fall on a surprise young waitress, who started to curse loudly.
Finally the group stepped out, followed by a few other customers, dressed in black.
After the group left, the peace and quiet had returned to the Inn. The young waitress, that had the unfortunate to have one of the people fall on her, nodded her head angrily "I tell you, they just don't know how to behave those brightenings!" she lowered her voice, so only the people whose tables were next to hers could hear her "Did you know that that guy was the Lord Protector of Medonia, Epic Vampyler? And people say he is a close friend of the Empress, too!" The waitress stopped to let this information sink in before moving her head in disbelief "Getting drunken and behaving like that! What has Telath come to

Senyaa and her cousin had come to the Crown Inn and Tavern to celebrate a marriage in the family -- that was the excuse, anyway. Whether anyone had actually gotten married was questionable. The two of them sat close together, heads nearly touching as they chattered to each other, attempting to keep the conversation private. It didn't help that there was a rowdy bunch of people making noise and carrying on. Once the group left, the pair of katta relaxed and sat back, able to talk to each other without needing to practically shout into each other's ears. That was when the waitress began complaining.
Raising her eyebrow, Senyaa considered the woman, then looked at her cousin. As far as she herself was concerned, she didn't give a rat's behind about Epicurus Vampyler. The empress... mm, that was something else. While the white tigroness had a fair bit of disdain for the Empire itself, she did recognize the need to keep the status quo. She turned to her cousin and said, "And you wanted to come here why again?" Without waiting for an answer, she picked up her tankard of fruit juice and took a swig as if it were ale. Nobody but the waitress and her cousin knew any better.

Eyvind wasn't much of a drinker, so he did not typically frequent the bar at the Crown Inn and Tavern after work. He had seen more drunks in the two cycles since his arrival at than he had ever seen in his entire life up to that point. Then again, he reminded himself, he had seen more of just about everything in the last two cycles than he had seen in his entire life preceding. The rowdy bunch entering the bar made him uncomfortable. This was the big city, and that meant that some sort of knife- or even sword-fight could erupt at any moment. He had his own knife on him, stuck in his belt, but he thought of it as a tool for whittling or cleaning fish, not for fighting.
The young men didn't seem to have much respect, and Eyvind kept hoping that the staff would kick them out, but they seemed to bump and wander about with impunity. At one point, one of them fell on top of a waitress. Standing up, Eyvind went over to see if she was OK. The youth from the Carmelyan Hinterlands had yet to learn the "Don't Get Involved" attitude that was the norm in Prime.
The waitress was already up, and quite upset, by the time Eyvind got to her. She was complaining about the rudeness of the guests who had just left, and said something about one of them being Epicurus Vampyler. Eyvind thought he recognized that name from the Herald or something, and since the waitress said he was Lord Protector of Medonia and all that, he reckoned he probably *had* heard the name before.
"How do you know it was Epicurus Vampyler?" he asked the waitress. He was about to introduce himself when his eyes fell on the two tigrons in front of him. Real katta! He couldn't wait to write his family about that. Were they male or female? He couldn't tell easily, and he suddenly realized he was staring. Remembering his manners, he turned to the waitress. "Oh, I'm Eyvind Birch by the way. Serale. Are you alright?"

Epicurus Vampyler. That name triggered off memories. Many, many memories. So, he was lord protector of Enamoria now? The druid gave a little chuckle, shaking his head. Times certainly changed. When he had first met him, he'd been a Jorelite trying to sacrifice him in order to summon a demon. Now, it seemed, he had completed his reconversion.
Looking over at the waitress curiously, the druid moved the conversation, his interest piqued. A slight smile slid over his face. Hollowing a carrot, the druid blew his hair out of his eyes as he nonchanlantly spoke.
"I knew Epic, once. He always did have a hot streak. What happened this time?"

Z'kron
The waitress was about to return to her work when she heard Z'kron's words. "You know Epic? Well, this stupid man just fall on top of me! Didn't you see that group of drunken fools that just left? He was one of them, I tell you!" Her eyes shining, obviously enjoying the attention, she added "He is supposed to be impotent, isn't he? I tell you - I prefer my own kind of people, simple but kind. Not some high and mighty ones who had their power gone to this head!"

The druid gave a wry smile. "Well, I wouldn't know anything about his... habits that way. But I've never been overly fond of drinking either. Still, it's nice to know that Epic's still wandering around; even if he has fallen to habits I don't particularly approve of."
Reaching into his pouch, Z'kron tipped the waitress about twelve crowns. He appreciated good service at such establishments, and was well aware that the habit of tipping would encourage this, as well as making sure the staff were willing to talk to him in future.

Eyvind scowled a bit as the conversation between the waitress and Z'kron unfolded. He might not have a lot of crowns to throw around to impress people, and he didn't know Epicurus Vampyler, but that didn't mean he appreciated being ignored, especially when he had been trying to help. Maybe it really was better not to get involved, he mused.
He cringed a bit when the waitress spoke of the famous guy being impotent. She had every reason to be mad, but one shouldn't talk about people that way, especially not important people. Maybe it wasn't such a bad thing she was ignoring him after all, if this is how she spoke about people who had caught her attention once they left the room. To be honest, Eyvind was something of a gossip himself, but he only talked about people he knew with other people he knew. Speaking ill of just anybody to just anybody else struck him as rude.
Deciding to ignore the waitress right back, the tall youth turned to the older man. "You say you know Epicurus Vampyler, sir? What does he look like?" The group of troublemakers had all seemed rather young, and Eyvind had pictured somebody as important as this Epicurus as being older, and probably better-dressed, too. "Did *you* get a good look at any of those guys, and did any of them really look like Mr. Vampyler?"

Z'kron turned to Eyvind, his eyes twinkling a brilliant almost unnatural sapphire with good humor. A wry smile crept across his face.
"Human with an elfy tint- Vampylers are an elven family. Biggish, grey eyes. Never learnt to use a razor and usually walks around with either a very determined or a confused look on his face. Though I've heard he has something of a sense of humor. I didn't get a look at him though; could've identified him easily enough if I did. Haven't seen him for an eon though. We had a few friendly clashes when he was a stripling and the stone guard was in its infancy. You hang around long enough, you end up meeting everyone. Hell, you might even end up being someone... though sadly, that hasn't eventuated too well in my case."
Z'kron wiggled his eyebrow in a mildly regretful fashion.
"That said, those who only tweak the flow of history tend not to get drowned in its currents."

OOC: I'm sorry, Eyvind, I missed your post
After talking to Z'kron, the waitress turned her attention toward the young men that was sitting not far from him "I'm sorry, sir, did you say something?" She was young, around 16 patterns and her hair was in a mass, as always.

Z'kron
Eyvind nodded and even chuckled a bit at Z'kron's description. The man sounded like he knew this Epicurus guy well enough. Of course, he almost regretted that the man had given such a clear description within earshot of the waitress. Now she was probably going to go around talking about how she got a good look at Epiciurus Vampyler's blueish hair, his biggish frame, his confused look, and so on. She seemed like the type to do that.
The last bit Z'kron said sounded a bit philosophical for the Carmelyan's taste. Tweaking the flow of history, hmmm, whatever. "Well, I guess you sound like you know the guy, alright," he said at last, deciding to avoid the currents of history for the time being. "But it sounds like you didn't get a look at him. Would he have come over and said 'Serale' to you if he'd seen you, you think?" Eyvind honestly didn't know where, if anywhere, this conversation was going. But Z'kron seemed friendly enough, and the idea that he had actually just been in the same room with somebody famous intrigued Eyvind. He wondered if this sort of thing happened often in here. Prime was the capital of the Empire, after all, and if the guard at the city gate were to be believed, this here was the only inn in town. If that were the case, he would probably see lots of famous people, and even more people claiming to know them, if he hung about this place long enough.
Sonya
Eyvind finally turned back to the waitress after she spoke; his usually friendly expression was now a bit cooler and more guarded than was typical for him, though most city-folk would probably find his manner normal. The thought crossed his mind to say something mean, but he had been raised to stay calm and polite, even in the face of rudeness and disrespect. You don't have to lose your temper or call people names to stand up for yourself his parents used to tell him. Besides, maybe she simply hadn't heard him.
"Yes, I said something," he said after allowing himself to glare at the girl for just a moment. "I introduced myself and asked you if you were alright. I reckon that you're all right, but I'll tell you my name again, if you want to hear it. I'm Eyvind Birch."
With those pleasantries out of the way, he went back to his earlier question, the one that he was now a bit more interested in, in spite of the fact that he knew next to nothing about Epicurus Vampyler. "How do you know it was Epicurus Vampyler in that group that was just in here raising a ruckus? This guy says he knows him, but didn't see him. What did you see?" He prepared himself for a description cribbed from what Z'kron had just said.

The waitress looked angry "Of course I'm sure it was Epic! He is a bit taller then me, around 6', a human with pointed ears with light grey hair." she looked a little upset now.
Suddenly a man appeared throw the Inn's doors. He was tall, round and white in the face. He looked around him desperately and then sow the girl. Rushing to her he started to talk fast, his breath heavy "Thank the Gods you're here! Do you know where I can find the guards? Something strange is going on outside. I think..." he stopped to catch his breath and continued "A group of people surrounded by dark-clothed men... They look drunk and the men are dragging them... Something is wrong... I think it is a kidnap..."

[ooc: Sorry it took so long for me to respond to this!]
Eyvind was starting to get bored with the waitress, and quite frankly was not even sure he cared whether or not she was mistaken or lying about recognizing Epicurus Vampyler. The older guy he had been talking to, Z'kron his name was, had fallen silent; possibly he was bored with the waitress, too. Eyvind was just starting to look around at the many other things he could be doing here in the tavern, the many other more interesting people he could be talking to, when a man burst in and spoke of a kidnap.
A kidnap? Eyvind was alarmed. This was exactly the sort of thing Dughlas had warned him about happening in the big city. Hooligans and crooks and thieves everywhere, his father would rant. He had even ranted in writing in his last letter to Eyvind when he had learned of his son's intention to leave the Birch farm and try his luck in Prime.
Eyvind had no idea what to do. He looked at the waitress, at Z'kron, at the man who had just walked in. The young carpenter from Carmelya was young, active, able-bodied, and taller than average, but he was no fighter, and had no weapons on him except the knife in his belt.
But one thing Eyvind was was curious to a fault. His brother used to call him "the ferret" when he was little because he was always nosing into everything. And it was the ferret in him, rather than the fighter, that decided his next move. He grabbed his cloak, got up, and asked: "Where are they? Where did they go? I have to see this."
A kidnap! he thought. No one at home would ever believe this.

The druid raised his eyebrow, one hand dropping to his belt. "A kidnapping, hmm? Well, I suppose that warrants an investigation. Though we shouldn't jump to conclusions." The druid was wary of the situation as a whole. False kidnapping calls were common as a trick of bandits to lure travellers out of safe locations and into their ambushes.
"Master Birch? Shall we investigate?". The dracon in human form flashed a brilliant white smile; almost too bright to be white, and certainly far brighter than the lighting in the room had any right to make it. Concentrating for a moment, the druid drew in essence from the arcane plane and attempted to conjure up version of "barkskin" which covered only the areas of his body under his clothes. That is, the entirety of his body bar his face. As a druid with a masterpiece who was ready to be trained for masterhood, such a simple spell should cause no difficulty- indeed, it shouldn't even prove a drain on his vis.
The attempt made, the druid would turn to the runner, and ask him to lead on to the site of the kidnapping; while still remaining wary of any potential ambush.

Bosnick Waters
The young man of 16 sat quietly in the corner though all the commotion. His head in his arms he waited for his mom and dad to get back from there erends. The boy had dark hair and green eyes that seemed some times to be pure gold, but when one looked twice was still green. The boy was about 5'11" and was not a small adolescent figure. And he could care less about any thing happening in the streets at the moment. He took a swag of Ale and leaned back in his seat to see what would happen next. His name was Bosnick Waters.

Z'kron's spell had succeeded and, in a few moments, he could feel his body became harder and wood-like strong. The tell man seemed to be hesitating "Shouldn't we call the guards?..." but as he sow that two man had already got up, ready to move, he gave up.
"I sow them just outside the Inn..." he said, his face still pale as he lead the men to the door.
