[Location] The Stables
Compared to the serenity of the front of the Crown Inn and Tavern, the back of it was a hive of activity. The grounds at the back of the tavern were home to all the things that kept the inn running like clockwork, and the biggest of them all were the stables.
Rebuilt during the recent Allerian incident, the red brick of the gigantic, retangular shaped building matched that of that of the tavern itself. A small path, nothing more than a slightly darker shade of brown dirt than the rest of the ground had, led from a back door of the crown out to the facilities of the yard, including that of the stables. The entrance was barnlike, two big, wooden doors that opened outward and were locked securely at night. The Crown often had very valuable horses staying in their facilities.
The smell often hit people before the view of the inside of the stables did. Towards the south side of the building, a small, fenced off grassy area could be seen, and depending on the time of day, a goat or two could usually be noticed, grazing lazily on the green lawn.
When entering the stables themselves, the visitor is always greeted with a busy hive of activity. Stablehands were always rushing everywhere, feeding, watering and rubbing down steeds that had just arrived or were due to leave. It was very rare, particularly around the setting in of evening, for new horses not to be seen being led to stalls by eager helpers whilst their owners looked on. The stables themselves had stabling for about 30 horses, as well as space for a few carriages, and not forgetting a home for the goats that were so often grazing outside.
Overseeing the activity was a big, burly man, the sandy coloured hair on his head an unruly mop of messy curls. His brown eyes were as sharp as anything, and could always spot the slightest mistake that one of hands made, no matter how small. He was always dressed in simple fare, linen shirt and breeches, with simple leather boots adorning his feet. Around his waist was a tool-belt of sorts, that contained various things such as brushes, but it wasn't unsual to also see the end of a pipe sticking out of the canvas material that held the tools of his trade.
Usually, the only customers seen in the stables were those dropping off or picking up horses, but the stablemaster apprieciated that some of the temporary residents of the Crown Inn & Tavern had an interest in the beasts themselves, and would often let people look around, under his guidance, of course, should they be interesting in regarding the various breeds of the empire that the stables nearly always housed.
