The Duelgrounds. One of Chelseanna's most controversial landmarks, the Duelgrounds were located well outside the Port and not too far from the Oracle's shrine. Surrounded by a small patch of evergreen trees, this had the location of choice for each and every legitimate duel on the island for as long as anyone could remember. Legend had it that a long, long time ago the first duel had been fought here by two islanders over the love of a woman. Chelseannans were often hot-blooded for some reason, and duels served as an outlet to their instincts. They happened frequently, though they were rarely to the death and most wounds were inflicted to one's honor. When a casualty happened, however, the authorities would always file it as an unfortunate accident and forget about it.
The Duelgrounds were a circular ring of granitic stone, rough and ancient-looking. It spanned perhaps fifty feet or fifteen meters in diameter, with small pillars rising along its circumference. Duels were, for the most part, fought near sundown and could continue through dusk and darkening. Bringing a 'second' to the duel was mandatory according to the island's honor code. The seconds established the rules of the duel and how far it could be allowed to go (first blood, being able to stand, or death), though the offended party could stop the duel at any time without loss of honor, claiming that satisfaction had been obtained.
The seconds also examined the dueling weapons and made sure that each duelist was ready to fight with fair resources and equipment. And finally, they occasionally had to return the duelist's dead body to the village. While this was far from a pleasant task, finding a second would never be a problem on Chelseanna. One merely had to ask around Delot's Fencing Academy, and someone would immediately volunteer.

OOC: This is a location for gentlemen's (and ladies') duels without fear of legal repercussions. Feel free to NPC your second if you want. Duels to the death between PCs need to be GM-moderated.
