The Weeping Militiaman Armoury Boutique, as its full name went, was the oldest shoppe of its kind on Chelseanna, not to mention the only one. An ancient tradition required that there only be one armorsmith and weaponsmith license granted at any one time on the island, and the Delot family, managers of the Fencing Academy, owned this shoppe as a side business. Lately the boutique was operated by Chief Constable Loris Delot's younger brother Nikos.
While all the smithing happened on the back, using raw materials and ores imported mainly from Carmelyn - as no-one here would willingly touch anything made in Arium - the store front did indeed look like a boutique, elegant furniture welcoming the visitors with mahogany display cases. Some swords were even inside glass boxes. The weapons on display were not the bulky greatswords or mighty axes so popular elsewhere. There was nothing bigger than a longsword and even those rested in a corner, as if the management were not proud of their presence. No, these were for the most part lightswords for use with El Viatre and other refined combat styles practiced on the island.
Mainly these were rapiers of all shapes and denominations, elaborate hilts as varied as the imagination could picture them. Epées and smallswords were also well represented, as were all manners of main gauche weapons such as daggers for parrying, swordbreaking and other support arms. Pieces of armor were showcased, and all of it was light dueling armor. The occasional Elven steel piece was visible, its peculiar shine unmistakeable to the trained eye.
But the truly unusual thing about this shop was that no item here had a visible price next to it. There was no list, no table. Instead, they all had a name. Every sword, every piece of armor had been crafted to such a level of individual care that each deserved its own name.
