Thanal Tower
-=| Thanal Tower |=-
Description:
The Thanal Tower is the centerpiece of the Piazza del Mare. It sits on the north end directly across from the Porto Gates and overlooks the beating heart of the isle. It is a multistoried circular building very wide and the tallest building in Port Chelseanna. On top of the white limestone walls is a fabulous marble roof that houses several pinnacles that project shadows upon the Piazza floor that intersect and form designs, depending on the time of day. In fact the entire Piazza was designed with acoustics in mind and every sound and conversation can be heard by the Thane in the tower- especially the debates at the Speaker's Podium.
To enter one walks past the Speaker's Podium and up some wide, marble stairs. During the brightening candlemarks the Tower is open for buisness and the large oak doors remain open to allow all visitors to enter. It only closes the doors for City Council meetings, the darkening, and in case of bad weather.
The first floor is one large room- the front quarter used to welcome applicants to the Thane, and the back half reserved for Council meetings. There are two desks- the receptionist's desk in the front and the Council President's desk in the back. The Council part of the room resembles a small, indoor amphitheater with terraces sunk into the ground to provide a place to sit for the Councilmembers. On either side of the room are stairs that lead to the upper stories of the Thanal Tower.
Port Chelseanna is small, so small that the Thane assumes the responsibilities of an Aedile in bigger cities. The thane is assisted by two assistants- one of which mans the front desk.
Locations:
Front Desk
Situated directly in front of the entrance is a white desk attended by a pretty, dark haired human female. This is where you would want to start off your visit to the Thanal Tower
Thanal Office
The Thane's offices comprises all of the third story of the Thanal Tower. It is ornately decorated and drips with extravegant wealth. It was a number of windows (some real, some faux) that allow the Thane to overhear what is going on below him.
Rooftop
On the roof is a small flower garden where the Thane is known to sun himself and entertain visitors.
NPCs:
Laertes Vidocai Thane
Panope Vidocai Receptionist

OOC: Sixth of Immanis, plus a few days for delivery. Say, end of the first cycle of Immanis
The following letter was delivered by a russet-furred otter bearing the crest of Great House Moonstar.
Quote:
TO: Laertes Vidocai, Thane of Chelseanna.
Greeting from Paxia!
In an effort to promote fair trade and travel between our two cities, I would like to announce my intention to visit Chelseanna this season, to meet with you at your convenience, as soon as your schedule permits. I believe our cities have a great deal to offer each other. Unlike certain other cities in Arium, the merchant city of Paxia has always maintained cordial relations with the islands of Eunesia, and has to this day a fair trade agreement with Arios. I believe it would be advantageous to Chelseanna to join in on the Paxian Trade network.
Please forward any inquiries or comments to my office as soon as possible. Tentatively, I would like to hear from you within the month so that scheduling plans can move forward.
Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Roland Moonstar,
Lord Protector of Paxia.

The Imperial sage was new to Chelseanna, but as ever, he planned to leave his stamp on it rather quickly. It was his modus-operandi, if you will. Dressed in plain but clearly well made clothing and accompanied by a bodyguard, he eschewed much of the finery that his station would typically bring. But when he did introduce himself as the Imperial High Sage and member of the Regent's cabinet to the young lass, his voice was that of a well trained diplomat.
"I was looking into the purchase of some property around. A vineyard or oil farm, perhaps. I'm told the land produces the best in the empire, given proper management."
The druid gave a smile, drumming his fingers lightly. His manner fairly glowed with self assurance; less due to his station and more due to being simply who he was. His sapphire eyes- not the watery blue that most would associate with sapphire eyes, but sapphire like roughly-cut crystals formed into the shape of eyeballs- fixed again on the receptionist. It was a disconcerting experience, almost like being stared down by a quarry, or a particularly intelligent pet rock.
"Which I intend to provide, of course. How much is the rough cost, say, per hectare?"

First Cycle of Immanis, Spring, Era XIV p.f.
Delivered one warm spring morning, the delicate ivory parchment with ivy vineslip contained an interesting, if not surprising offer from afar.
Quote:
Laertes Vidocai, Thane of Chelseanna
Nesocratic Federation of Eunesia
Vedui from the wood of Syl’rosya!
My name is Calairiel Mynendil Gil’dae and I’m writing to you for information. I’ve recently become interested in investing in businesses outside of Syl’rosya and had thought Eunesia might be a place well suited for my needs.
I have an established business already in Syl’rosya…a successful elven tea shop, but what I require wouldn’t necessarily mean establishing another within your city. I am just as interested in acquiring established businesses or investing in something new. I am just curious to see what my options might be.
Please forward any information possible to Syl’rosya for review. After that, we can possible arrange a visit to discuss further arrangements.
Regards,
Arwen Calairiel Mynendil Gil’dae
House Gil’dae
Starshadow Keep, Syl’rosya

Calariel and Roland- Answered and waiting at your offices!
Z'kron-
"Serale!" The woman whom greeted Z'kron looked suitably impressed and eager to help. "Prices flucuate according to their location. If you are interested in agricultural land, you can find developed vineyard land starting at 10,000 crowns an acre. Olive groves are more expensive- that land costs around 15,000 an acre- the trees are very precious you see? Undevolped land in the fields costs 3000 crowns an acre. All of this doesn't include buildings and supplies."
She continued to tick off costs.
"Land in Port Chelseanna costs 2000 crowns a half-acre, and that doesn't include a house. What's your price range? Maybe from there we can find you a suitable property, there's a couple listings. A small vineyard in the south Fields, 25 acres- half a million crowns all together.... The Mezzoli Oil Grove- 15 acres- 400,000 crowns..."

The Beginning of Spring (II), in the Month of Immanis, Era XIV
The 2nd Era of the Regency of Milo L'Evienne
The Piazza del Mare was bustling, and the sights and sounds of life in Celsianna seemed to drift, surround and pull Dara in as she made her way, wide-eyed toward the Thanal Tower. There was a lot of activity, but no one seemed to be in a particular hurry. If one could use relaxed and festive in the same sentence to describe the same place...then Dara thought it might be fitting to describe the place she hoped to call home. Would she ever feel that way, she wondered? Would she ever feel like she was home...knowing that she didn't know where home truly was.
Swinging her leather bag leisurely to and fro, she lingered near the open air market, watching tourists gawk at and haggle over goods. And not long after she felt the first soft pelting of rain fall on her nose, she thought she heard a violinist strike up a lilting tune. It was an intriguing combination...the rain and the music...the humid breeze.
Finally, she reached the doors of the Tower, but her head was turned so that she could see behind her, already beginning to wonder where she'd lay her head for the darkening. The Hollets had been kind enough to supply her with 500 crowns for her travel...and those crowns were the only things of value she could claim to own, the small leather bag she carried being filled with the minimal amount of personal necessities and one change of clothing.
Looking at the muted tone of her brown dress, and noting the vibrant flowing dresses of the natives, the thought also crossed her mind that perhaps she could find more suitable clothing and then pray to any god or goddess that would listen that she could find herself some sort of work. She was no longer going to be taken care of by the Hollets, her time of feeling sorry for herself was over...it was time to move on with her life and face the future. Whatever that future might be.
Walking up to the reception desk, she smiled at the beautiful dark-haired woman sitting there, and looked casually around the building that held the government offices of Chelseanna, a vague sense of familiarity hovering at the back of her muddled mind. “Serale, I was instructed to come here and annouce my presence in the City.” Quickly digging into her bag, she produced the Provisional Visa, and pushed it across to the receptionist, frowning some as she wondered if she should begin explaining now or wait to be asked why her Visa was a temporary one.

Spring XIV
Erenthril slowly managed to, by sheer dumb luck and the catching of snippets of passerby conversation, stumble his way towards the rather majestic Thanal Tower. Although he remained timidly uncertain as to whether or not it could conduct the Aedile-like services he was in need of, the Syl'rosyian Elflord had long since supposed that it was better to act first and question later.
Thus it was, when he trotted through the large front doors and smoothed out the wrinkles of his emerald green cloak, Eren caught sight of the pretty little brunette bouncing about the front desk. Summoning up that familiar charming smile that had wooed several-too-many elven maidens in his homeland, he gracefully swept towards her presence and placed his hands nonchalantly into his pockets, seekin eye contact as he ventured forth his first question. "Excuse me, but would you happen to know where I can find an Aedile?"
Okay...so it was a little bit simple-minded. But he'd have room to move along from there.

Erenthril
Panope lifted her head from the parchment and smiled at Erenthril. It was second-nature for Chelseannans to smile at those they perceived as foreigners, and the girl was no exception. Dressed in bright flowing robes designed for taste and modesty, the Podesta's daughter nodded respectfully at the Elf.
"Serale," she answered, her voice a little deeper and huskier than might have been expected perhaps, still adding to her charm and not detracting from it. "Welcome to Celsianna, signore. We hope you are finding your stay on our island as enjoyable as we'd like it to be. The Thane, or Podesta as we call him here, also serves as Aedile of the city. He also happens to be my father and I do not think he has any appointment scheduled for the next few candlemarks, so I suppose he could see you now."
The young woman smiled once more at the Elf. A rock cut into the shape of a miniature violin rested on a corner of the desk as a paperweight and voices from the conversations in the Piazza del Mare could be heard distinctly even in this room.

“Thank you,” Eren grinned pleasantly back at the helpful secretary, having been caught unawares he was speaking to the Thane’s daughter. Offering a brief yet polite bow, he nodded his head and straightened his back as he stood up, hands coming to rest along the edges of her desk. His eyes roved from her pretty face down to the stacks of papers she had assorted atop of her desk. That was one thing about secretaries; they always had stacks of papers on their desks. Whether they were actually working with them, however, was another story all together. Never mind that violin paper weight, which had caught his eye from the get-go given his tendency to make miniature sculptures ever since that one class back in Syl’rosya.
“Could you tell me in which direction I’m headed, then?” he asked, quite clueless as to the location of the Thane. He figured he was upstairs, of course, since politicians naturally sought to sea t themselves in zeniths of physical manifestations of power, yet just where happened to elude the Elementalist for the moment. Folding his hands respectfully behind his back, he would wait for directions and then proceed to the desired destination, knocking of course before entering… manners were everything, after all.

The girl smiled again and pointed at the staircases on the far side of the room. "Upstairs, the office occupies the whole floor so it's impossible to miss it." Panope returned to her paperwork, most of which was obviously unimportant and rather boring - such filing reports and budgets for the Pro Loco, the local tourism board of Chelseanna.
If Erenthril followed Panope's advice and made his way up the spiral staircase, he would arrive in front of a door. The plaque on it read:
'Island of Chelseanna
Laertes Vidocai
Thane'
If Erenthril knocked on the door, it would be opened by a sleepy-looking guard who wished for nothing more than to return to his 'work'. The man would simply gesture for the Elf to step in, escort him to the actual door of the Thane's office (not even plaques were entirely truthful on Chelseanna), knock on it and then go back to his desk in the antechamber of the Thane's office to resume his nap.
At any rate, it looked like Erenthril had his audience with the Podesta. Laertes was a large man; everything about him was simply... big. A big, full face, big hands with thick fingers, a big build, yet he could not be called fat. His desk sat in the middle of the office, neatly arranged with a map of the Island on one wall. A Eunesian and Imperial Flag crisscrossed behind his desk. There were a few bookshelves, and a few chairs - other than that, it lacked much color. It was very utilitarian.
"Serale," he greeted Erenthril with a deep voice that was just as big as the rest of him, "I am Podesta Laertes Vidocai, what can I do for you today?"

Erenthril, of course, followed the young lady’s advice and much to his pleasure and delight found she had been quite correct in her assessment of the Thanal Office occupying the entire floor of the rooms beyond the vaulted ceilings. Cheerfully adjusting the cuffs of his shirt and fidgeting with the brooch that clasped his cloak about his shoulders, Eren knocked thrice before being greeted by the rather tired guard. Offering a sympathetic smile and nod of his head, the Syl’rosyian Elflord fell in step behind the man and allowed himself to be escorted to the Podesta’s private office.
Stepping into the office and offering a curt nod to the man sitting behind the desk, Eren turned around to ensure the door was closed before taking a quick deep breath and exhaling. Spinning on the heel of his foot once more, with all the fluidity and grace afforded to him through the natural whims and natures of his race, the Elf’s eyes quickly spanned the room in seconds and took in the designs and décor that seemed…. well, rather sparse and few between. Concealed by a mere casual gaze about the office, almond-shaped emeralds eventually settled upon Laertes, who was indeed rather large, if not burly. His own slender figure dwarfed in comparison to the Thane’s frame, the Elflord walked up towards the desk and smiled politely.
“Serale Podesta Vidocai, my name is Erenthril Mael’tharias… I was looking to purchase a small bungalow within the town for a residence,” his accent was Syl’rosyian, that much was obvious, but he maintained eye contact and waited to see how the Thane would react. Surely, not very many people sought to add themselves to the small comfortable town of five hundred.

Laertes Vidocai smiled broadly at the request. "Oh, a bungalow in Port Chelseanna. We have a lot of empty property just waiting for someone to understand how marvelous a permanent residence here really is. In fact, the Port can house many more people than it currently does. The town was built with an intended capacity of about ten thousand people, meaning that even at the peak of touristic influx, we are still half empty. It must sound like a rather unique situation to someone living on the mainland, I imagine, but we cling to our ways. We maintain the empty buildings with the same care as everything else, for it all contributes to our appeal."
The Podesta opened the Aedile's property tome, where available property was listed in a neat and orderly fashion. "Bungalow... let's see. We have something for every taste, and every pocket as well. The smallest bungalows are only a single room and start at two thousand Crowns in the Plata quarter. We have other, more isolated bungalows closer to the beach, those start at three thousand Crowns instead. A two-room bungalow could cost you around four thousands, or six in one of those privileged spots I mentioned. Three rooms, six or nine thousands. Anything bigger than that, you will have to purchase one of the limestone houses instead."

“Ten thousand people? You don’t say?” Eren actually showed a great deal of surprise at the thought – he knew Chelseanna was big, rather large even for a native population of five hundred, but he had no idea the extent of such production extended to twenty times the original amount. And to think that everything was kept up so well? “You could have fooled me then,” he laughed ruefully and offered a grin in the Thane’s direction, settling down in one of the seats opposite of him.
He listened intently to the man’s voice, mental notes and calculations being made on what he wanted and what he could afford – fortunately, almost anything out of the rough estimates provided by Laertes.
“I’m definitely interested on something near the beach; being a little bit isolated from the town wouldn’t be as troublesome for me as it could be for others. Everyone likes their space after all…” he mused aloud, hands folding in his lap as he thought about just what he was after. Two rooms or three? He supposed he’d want a bedroom… perhaps two, really, should he ever have a guest over. The other room would naturally serve as the living abode, if not doubling as the kitchen. Perhaps. “I’m interested in some space, though style and architecture are important as well. Exactly what do you have available in terms of three-roomed bungalows on or near the Oceanside? I know it’s a little picky,” Eren smiled apologetically, albeit he knew exactly what he was getting himself into. Or so he thought.
