Physical Appearance
Age: 20 ordinations, born the 11th of Ioannes
Shiraz is well shaped, but not quite shapely, with a slim, agile body and artistic hands. Her skin looks peachy-pale and freckles across the nose. Long, long black hair, miles of it, and gray eyes complete the picture.
Personality
Prone to violence, brooding, and general moodiness, our girl is a bundle of irrational nerves and energy. Her reaction to any scenario varies on a day to day basis. It would be fair to call her chivalrous but just as correct to call her a coward or a bully. That said, she's surprisingly loyal, both to those close to her and to her principles.
Shiraz is also a pessimistic idealist, meaning that she sees the world, knows how it should be, and is absolutely certain it will never be that way. Unsurprisingly, this only makes her more depressed and anxious.
Cynical, jaded, and a closet romantic. Just a bit manic-depressive.
History
Shiraz is the bastard child of Darius Leonard and Asianne Calida. Asianne was a young merchant's daughter, well-off but by no means wealthy. When she was 17 ordinations, Asianne met Darius at a tavern and proceeded to sleep with him for several months. Six months after their relationship ended, she came to him again, now pregnant and disowned by her family. Darius made vague promises to take care of her and the baby. He did, for a while, send money, and occasionally he would visit to tickle the baby and give it presents. However, soon his attention span ran short, and his visits came to an end for many years.
When Shiraz was 12 ordinations, Darius appeared again. Asianne, still half in a love with him, allowed him back into their lives. Like before, his visits were infrequent, but Shiraz relished the time spent with him. They had much in common, both proud and reckless and competitive.
Only one era later, Darius was killed in a duel.
Asianne and Shiraz went on as before. During this time, Shiraz began having drastic mood swings. Always an emotional child, she became heavily depressed. She lost weight and sleep, cried often, and lost interest in friends. This period was interrupted by recurrent episodes of excitement, rash behavior, and fury. Miserable, at 18 ordinations, Shiraz attempted to kill herself. Asianne caught her and forced her to stop.
Life got better after that, less depressing. Although still tormented by mood swings, Shiraz was able to function. Two years after her suicide attempt, Asianne gave her daughter the deed to a small house in nearby Jaedaxia, and the option to go or stay. Asianne believed that a change of scenery might help Shiraz. Taking her advice, Shiraz left their village.
She is aware that Darius may have fostered other children, and she knows that Darius had brothers. She does not know how many cousins she has, however.
