[Aran Kha'Serith]

PC Name: Aran Rakaalsson Kha'Serith, affectionately called "Aalhari" by his Dracon relatives.

Race: Half-Vagaran Human/Half-Dracon.

Age: Eight (8) patterns.

Physical Description: There's no doubt that Aran is the spitting image of his poor mother, who was called "The Rose of Archadoon" for her beauty. His skin is ghastly pale, and save the random patches of scales, no flaw can be seen. His thin, bony figure is attributed to severe malnutrition and the poison of his Dracon blood. He can't run or walk very far without taking prolonged periods of rest, and he can't live heavy things. Aran's failing health prevents him from doing many things other boys his age can, and it brings him great distress.

Like his mother as well, he has a head of long, golden hair. Since he has spent much of his life on the streets, one can usually find nettles and leaves (even hay at times) stuck throughout his hair. Due to his long hair and girlish looks, he's often mistaken for a little girl, which also distresses him. His face is oval and thin, and his cheeks sink in slightly. He's also quite small for his age, again, due to his ill health.

Clothing wise, Aran dresses in the rags of his social status. In the past, he wore a leather cap and brown tunic, and he's always gone without shoes. All of his clothes have had to be fitted for his tiny wings and tail. His cousin Kour'el burned these rags, however, and for a time afterwards, he wore a simple white tunic he found inside the attic of her manor house. He has a nicer set of clothes that were sent to him by Rae'vyn Kaldres, but he never wears them, as he deems them too nice to wear every day. Recently, he was given a new set of barbarian attire, and has since worn it as he stays with them.

~History of House Kha'Serith~

House Kha'Serith used to be a prominant House in the Hidden City until a jealous rival house attacked House Kha'Serith. Thoughtout time, House Kha'Serith and the rival House had competed for honor. But as with all prolonged fights and wars, the beginning idea of the fight for Honor began to fade away and all that remained was greed and power. Soon, the fight moved from honor-filled duels and competitions of knowledge to a race to see who could fastest gain the most power and money. Blinded by the hope of power, both Houses began to try to find weaknesses in each other to attack and then exploit to their advantage.

As they continued to exchange blows with each other, the attacks upon each other became more desperate and ruthless. No longer were they simply trying to exploit each other, but rather, they had begun engaging each other in open warfare. Small skirmishes would occur occasionally but no deaths occured at the time. Eventually, however, the rival House uncovered that one of the leading heirs of House Kha'Serith had fallen in love with a "softskin," an act considered treason within the city. Upon learning this, House Kha'Serith knew that for such a thing to happen, the heir must've taken the form of another, an act considered dishonorable by the Diantar family. They quickly shunned their descendant away as the now Moraden left.

However, it was too late. By exaggerating the story to the point that few original facts remained and then spreading it around the entire city, the rival House then gathered its supporters and launched an attack on the unprepared House Kha'Serith; they still mourned the loss of a direct heir to the family's power. By quickly attacking House Kha'Serith Manor, the rival House was able to surprise the inhabitants and the manor was burned to the ground. The survivors of the House had to flee deeper into the mountains to survive.

~Aran's Story~

Aran never knew his parents. He was born in secret, and with his human mother dying in childbirth, as well as the strange absence of his father, he was decidely an orphan. His widowed grandmother took it upon herself to raise the child alone. She gave him the name "Aran Rakaalsson Kha'Serith," and for several years, she was able to conceal her grandson's existence. But word soon spread around Archadoon that Rinhild Bergasdotter was hiding something, and in time, Aran's existence became known.

Aran and his grandmother became isolated from the rest of the city, and they suffered terribly at the hands of the prejudiced. Aran never had any friends his own age, so his only friend was his grandmother. One day, nearing Aran's seventh birthbrightening, his grandmother took quite ill. She became bedridden, and on his seventh birthbrightening, Rinhild called Aran to her bedside. She took out a gold locket engraved with a strange coat of arms from inside her dresses and opened it. Inside, there was a lock of golden hair and two rings. Aran looked at the rings and noticed the names "Aytha" and "Rakaal" inscribed on them.

Rinhild explained that Aran's mother was wearing it when she died, and she guessed it must've been a gift from the boy's father. Rinhild wrote a letter to the boy's relatives, asking them to take up his care. She also closed the locket and gave it to the boy. Rinhild explained she could no longer care for him, and he was to go and find his father's family. With the locket and letter in hand, Aran left, ready to go to whatever lengths he had to to find the the side of the family he'd never known.
