Moranor Andares
Name: Moranor Andares
Age: 143
Race: Esh'lahier
Physical Description: Tall at 6ft 4', Moranor appears even more so because he possesses a lean, almost gaunt build. Like all elves he is long-limbed and graceful. His skin is deathly pale, yet not so pale as his silver-white hair, which he wears long and ties back with a velvet ribbon. His features are elegant, with high cheekbones and a thin nose. Long white lashes frame violet eyes, and his ears rise to graceful and prominant points. Further down the outer edge they have the small secondary points typical of the Esh'lahier.
Moranor's History: To understand Moranor you must understand where he came from. He was born in an Esh'lahier enclave not far from Medonia, but to a family that had come from Ethgan'tor, and as such was exposed to both modern and traditional Esh'lahieri cultures.
He left the enclave when he grew restless of the small world it offered, and arrived in Medonia to start a new life. He initially gained employment as a basic labourer in a Mill, and in his spare time hung out with some of the seedier side of Medonia's varied population, given that neither Esh'lahier nor Vysstichi were welcome in most circles in those days.
He learned to dye his hair and cultivated a lightborn accent which enabled him to pose as a lightborn Elf to all save other Elves, and when the Mill closed he found employment as the secretary to the Aedile at the time, Jelly Jennaple. She left the position not long after, and he was appointed in her place.
This was an exciting time for both Moranor and Medonia. It was the time of the fracturing of the Aethergem, and the awakening of the Pondertree. The old Burrows Academy sank into a lake formed by the upheaval of the land, and Medonia became an even greener city than it had. The rapid plant growth destroyed part of the city, but with the Pondertree's assistance was formed into housing, and as the Aedile Moranor was frequently up and down giant trees in his work managing the city's property.
When the re-opening of the Senate was announced, Governor Elanara Al'lende called Moranor before her and asked him to represent Enamoria as it's Legate. He naturally accepted, and was impressed that, though a lightborn elf herself, Lady Al'lende was fair and even-handed enough to appoint him in spite of his race. It was a perception of her that only deepened in time, and won her his admiration, and in time, more.
This was Moranor's first visit to Prime. He didn't get much time to view the City, but he did get the chance to meet with his sister Iranir. She laughed when she saw his dyed hair, and asked what a Legate had to fear from the masses. From that point Moranor resolved to be proud of his race and not to hide it.
The Senate session was extremely eventful, with the Julos and the Rakrya taking the Empire by coup and throwing the Senators out of Prime on pain of death. Moranor headed for the army that was forming at the gates of prime to re-take the city, supposedly under the command of Audrey de Lylles. But when Audrey herself disbanded the army, Moranor returned to Enamoria.
On returning to Medonia, Moranor again met with Governor Al'lende in a meeting that began as professional, but soon turned very personal. He confessed his love and the fact that it had been him who had sent her the love poems, and asked for an answer. There began a gentle, and above all, secret love afair. (OOC: No, your PC may not have knowledge of this. Please don't ask. The people who know or suspect know who they are.) They kept the secret because a union between their races was unheard of, and to many unthinkable, and Elanara had a child of noble birth who's future she was worried would be affected by any scandal they brought.
But it was short lived. War was declared on the City of Malice, and Elanara went to oversee the army that had been fielded, unbidden, and appointed one Malkaer Andares to lead it.
Then one night Elanara dissapeared from her tent, and was not seen again. Rumours flew, that she had been abducted, or slain, or something worse. But no one knew, nor could anyone find any trace of her. The Maliceans claimed that they had her, and would release her if the army disbanded, but they would not show her to the army, and few believed that they did indeed have the Governor. Malice was stormed and defeated, and still she was not found. General consensus was that she must be dead.
Moranor knew that she was not dead, through means of his own, but he had no idea where she was, and much as he yearned to leave and search for her, he felt a duty to the Province she had loved and left behind.
He claimed for himself the position of Acting Governor, despite others who contested it, and wrenched control of the Province largely by strength of personality and daring anyone else who wanted it to try to take it. No one did. His position was eventually confirmed by Milo L'Evienne, the Consul of the Southern Coasts at the time.
There was one completely unexpected surprise in this time. Captain Pierson Galodia, who had been Lady Al'lende's most trust bodyguard, came to him with a very difficult situation. Everyone knew of Elanara's daughter Olora, and her aunt Cassidy had said she would adopt her, but what no one knew was that Elanara had a son, a half Vysstichi boy called Kieran. Because of the shame associated with such a mix, Elanara had always kept him hidden. But as such no one knew about him, and he had no one to care for him. Pierson was one of the few who had known of Moranor and Elanara's closeness. Serion D'Rinishad arrived soon after, claiming to be the boy's father, and seeking to take him and raise him himself. Moranor intimated that such would happen over his dead body. However he knew that Kieran should know about both his peoples, and told Serion he was welcome to visit. Both he and Faust D'Rinishad did so regularly.
Moranor had been planning the opening of an orphanage in Medonia for some time, so he smuggled Kieran into the orphanage, and when he held the grand opening of the centre, he adopted the boy himself. As far as anyone knew, the boy was just another child orphaned in the fighting.
But the troubles were not over for Enamoria. The Feeble Pox hit, striking down many, hitting young and old alike. Those in the Pnyx seemed safe, and there was a safe haven in FailleGrove Park around the Pondertree, but all others were succeptible. Even those havens were not immune entirely. Even as an effort was mounted to find a cure for the Pox, Moranor himself was struck down with it, despite being in the Pnyx.
As he lay sick he spent a lot of time thinking about his actions and priorities, and when the cure finally arrived and he recovered, he strove with renewed vigor to fill out the provincial government, supply Enamoria with those people she needed to function, replacing those they had lost. The Province needed all the help she could get to rebuild.
These included Lt Governor Pescado Branch, Senator Mekare Taryn, Thane of Port Alyxandrya Liselle Vampyler and Thane of Medonia Amaris Bluefeather. Moranor worked very closely with Amaris to help restore Medonia, which was his worst by the Pox. In doing so he developed a deep fondness for the kind, intelligent lightborn elf, who reminded him so much of the woman he had lost. Yet it was that reminder that made the attraction so painful, and he cursed his own nature that he should feel that way. He felt intense guilt that he had not left to find her as soon as Elanara dissapeared.
One of the last tragedies of the Pox was that the Pondertree decided that it had been under-appreciated in it's efforts, and left Medonia. Much of the plant life in the City then sickened and died. The Pondertree was in fact a Treant of immense power, but almost no one had realised. Moranor saw this as the final straw in his own recent flawed decisions, and taking Kieran with him he left the Governorship to his Lt Gov, Pescado Branch, and set out in search of the woman he loved. He dissapeared for over two Eras.
------------
When Moranor returned to Medonia, it was as a far more world-weary elf than he had left. He had found hints and rumours of Elanara, but no solid evidence, and at last the trail had gone cold. He was also aware that Kieran needed a good solid home, and decided that the best he could do for the woman he lost was to raise her son.
He had planned to develop the property he had aquired just outside Medonia, and otherwise live quietly, but he felt he should make some effort to do something for the Province he had abandoned. He met with Pescado, who was now the Governor, and asked if there was any way he could help the Province. Pescado said that he was leaving, and asked Moranor to take over as Lt Governor until the current Consul of the Southern Coasts, Mekare Taryn, could appoint a new Governor. Surprised, Moranor agreed.
Moranor now finds himself exactly where he never expected to be again in his lifetime.
