Serion D'Rinshad
 | | | | |
Serion D'Rinishad, Paladin of Power
Race: Vysstichi | Age: 391 Patterns | Height: 5'5" | Weight: 135 Lbs
Physical Description
Unlike most vysstichi, Serion has Silver Eyes. Aside from that, he's pretty normal for a dark elf: long white hair(pony tail), quite muscular but lean, and rather charismatic. His left arm bears a scar attained from a ray of light...some strange device wielded by Leopold Ruberecht
History
Serion was born to House D'Rinishad in the vysstichi city of Hon'Elgg. A prophesy, given by the House Mage, was given at Serion birth, claiming that he would herald a new era for the House, changing their status among their brethren, and being an all around savior to the House as a whole. It was thus that Serion was the most pampered male of the House, his elder sister never even getting the chance to lay a hand on him.
As soon as he was old enough, like every noble male, Serion was inducted into the Academy of Warriors. He learned quickly and it turned out that Serion was in act quite deft with a blade. His first few patterns were simple, being basic weapon lessons, and a few history classes on his people--nothing serious. It was Serion's third pattern of attendance, however, that things seemed to have gone awry. A pseudo tournament was held at the end of the pattern, facing third year students against others of their class. The winners of course went on to their final year at the Academy. Serion was quite excited, knowing he was one of the best pupils of the school, only matched by one or two others. At the time the dark elf favored a single short sword, using his small frame and speed to get close and dearm his opponent before any harm could be done to himself.
It was in such a manner that Serion won his first fight, breaking his opponents arm with the flat of his blade, causing the dark elf to drop his bastard sword and fall to his knees, grasping his arm in agony. Serion stood victorious, in a matter of moments, but that was not enough for the Instructors. Serion had to kill his opponent to pass on, and at the time, Serion seemed to hold a few reservations. Spitting, he thrusts his blade into the earth of the tourney floor and folds his arms, refusing to finish his opponent in cold blood. He was no gladiator, but a warrior...honor was Serion's apparant downfall.
The vysstichi was swiftly disenrolled form the Academie, sent home in disgrace. His mother, out of anger had him beaten by her daughters, something the females had wished to do ever since the male had been born. He was the D'Rinishad dungeon, left to be handled by the family torturer, a cruel halfling that had been exiled some era ago from his home on the surface. Thinking his life forfiet, the dark elf was quite surprised, however that that very night his family estate was attacked. The family of the youth Serion had refused to slay saw Serion's lack of action as a reflection of the House's weakness, and thus struck swiftly. Serion took this as his opportunity to escape, and so he did. When the torturer was distracted, Serion broke his wrist straps and knocked the man senseless. Freeing a large number of imprisoned D'Rinishad's that the Matron was not pleased with, Serion led his troops through the halls, fighting when necessary, but fleeing mostly.
It was a ragged group of males that escaped D'Rinishad's main compound that day, and through Serion leadership, only a few were slain on the way out, leaving Serion, seven warriors, and a low level necromancer that had been imprisoned for his illegal learning of the dark arts. Making their way to a D'Rinishad safe house that hadn't been used in eras, Serion and his troup rested, letting their wounds heal and their strength return from both the torture and the battles. It did not take long, however, before the group decided there was nothing left in Hon'Elgg for them, and that the only place left to go that they would even have a chance of making a living would be the surface world.
Slowly making their way through the caverns of Hon'Elgg, having heard stories of vysstichi that had fled their homes in the underground to seek a better life among the surface dwellers, the D'Rinishad's path was not an easy one. Before making their way to a light filled opening, two had been lost, still somehwat weak from their wounds, and not having the endurance to push on. They were left, corpses to be fed on by the caverous monsters that lurked around every dark corner. When they did make it to the surface however, the elation was so great that even the blinding light and burning heat from the sun did not turn them back.
The spent months adapting to the surface world, and in those months many ideas had been passed around the eight males of House D'Rinishad as to how they would survive and regain their positions of power. Almost unanimously, it was decided that the way of the vysstichi was no way to gain power, and that even the most powerful of males was subordinate to the weakest of females. To grow strong, the strong should lead, and this was now the course of the males. They would eradicate the matriarchal sytem of rule--it may take time, but vysstichi were known for their patience.
Using their individual skills, they group traveled the lands, keeping hidden of course. Serion continued his practice with his short swords, and his companions did the same with their respective specialties. It was not long before Serion had caught news of a man known as Sorrin--a necromancer of some power. Knowing that the only way for his necromancer companion to advance was to work with a stronger necromancer, Serion leads his men to the man's camp, offering their services for tutelage under the dark arts. Sorrin agrees, and Serion begins the basics of his necromantic learning, while his companion builds on what he already knows.
It was but a mere two days after leaving Sorrin's camp, their agreement having been completed, that the group encountered their first surface battle, being surprised by a group of elves. The vysstichi had not expected the attack, but it was clear that they outmatched their attackers, losing two, but killing eight. The surviving elves fled, except one, who had fallen to the ground unconscience during the battle. Stopping the killing blow, Serion commented on the woman's horrible ability to use a sword, and wanted to learn why the attack had come. It was here that Serion met the woman known as Elanara Al'lende.
Weeks passed, and it was obvious the woman was crazed over some loss, often lashing out at her vysstichi captors. Serion took this in stride however, having seen the look Ela shown on her face before, and gently questioned her continuously. After a while, Ela's craze began to subside, and the dark elf learned that she had recently lost her husban. Serion cockily comments on the powers of necromancy being able to bring back the dead, and to his surprise Elanara nearly jumps at the idea. With a smile, Serion makes a deal with her, offering the services of his companion's magic, for her servitude over a certain period of time.
Over the era that Serion had made Elanara agree to serving the D'Rinishad's Serion had managed to trick himself it seemed. He had fallen for the woman that seemed strong of heart and mind--a woman that even when faced with this particular predicament, persevered to do what she could to bring her husband back. The two talked, and occasionally more came from these conversations than words, but it was still known to Serion that Elanara's feelings were not as strong as Serion's own, her husband's memory still pulling at the edges of her mind. It was a sad day, actually, for Serion when the year was up, his word as a warrior being put to the test.
Having his companion perform the ritual for bringing her husband back from the dead, it took a few days, though not to the ends that Elanara had wished. It was true that her husband had been brought back, but he was a mere shell of his former self, his soul already having passed on to the land of the gods. It was in that moment of grief that Serion saw Elanara give in to her sadness--he comforted her that evening, the two making love under the stars, trying to rid her of the memory of the man that was no longer her husband. At the end of the night, however, Elanara spoke of leaving, and how it was not right for a lightborn to stay with vysstichi, and Serion could say nothing. That night, after Elanra fell asleep, Serion had called upon amystic that he had encountered on his way back from Sorrin's camp. A few crowns being exchanged, and Elanara found herself laying in the woods, her original belongings laying next to her, and her memory of recent events blocked. Unbeknownst to her, Serion watched from the treetops, making sure she made it home safely.
As eras passed, Serion encountered other interesting individuals, though he managed to lose his initial companions to the attacks from other surface dwellers. The vysstichi's hard slwoly began to harden to the world, and power was his only motivation now, being the last D'Rinishad to have survived. Had it not been for his meeting up with a certain dark fae, Snibly, Serion would not be as light hearted as he is now. Snibly's carefree lifestyle rubbed off on the dark elf, and the two traveled many places together, making names for themselves as bandits. Good times--bad times--the two persevered, and with the meetings of others such as Quan Taos'Silverbane, Avanthar Dra'Aran, Duncan Scythe, and more, Serion's life was becoming a fulfilling one.
The vysstichi eventually gained enough money and power to gather other vysstichi who had fled to the surface, and House D'Rinishad was resurrected on the surface, Serion funding the estates of his three barons, and giving them the ability to grow as they see fit, under certain guidlines. It would seem, that the prophesy at Serion's birth was slowly coming true--house D'Rinishad was changing. At the breaking of the Aethergem, Serion lost his connection to his magics, but his blades still seemed to contain their abilities, and Serion focused, once again on his art of the blade, attaining Master level, though his faith in Jorel was severly shocked at the loss of his arcanic abilities. Serion's last act in the name of Jorel was the destruction of part of Diana, with the aid of Avanthar Dra'Aran, as well as the armies of The Dark Ones. The attack was turned back, though not without much harm to the city, and Serion went into seclusion, going on a sabatical to determine the direction of his life.
Returning to the world after an era, Serion made his way to Natura, where he excorcised the demons of his blades, deciding that any form of power that he wished to obtain would be obtained on his own terms, and not because of some god. He then began taking thaumaturgy, his bond to the god Jorel now totally severed as he lost his ability to connect with the plane of chaos totally. Serion had begun his path as a Dark Paladin.

*Techniques without links are not yet approved*
- The Pommel Punch – A simple and yet powerful punch, the Pommel Punch is performed exactly as Rhingorda's Straight Punch, except utilizing the pommel of the sword as the striking surface versus the student's fist. It is a simple punch where the practitioner steps forward to utilize the power of the shoulder and back muscles.
- The Blade Block – When wielding short swords, a Serhingorda user is taught how to position the forearms when performing blocks to maximize its effectiveness, almost serving as armguards in this application.
- The Pommel Upper Cut – The earliest adaptation and change of the Pommel Punch into another technique. When one is close to an opponent, it is harder to use an outstretched punch. Adapting the technique to allow the arm to bend and propel the attack upwards, the upper cut uses the same muscles as the original punch, but in closer quarters.
- Snap Slash - When utilizing either a right or left hook, a quick snap of the wrist brings the held blade perpendicular to the forearm, allowing a slash attack against a foe that often catches them off guard.
- Parting the Curtain - Employing an uppercut, the blade snaps out just as it would for the Snap Slash to perform an upward strike against an opponent, the force of snapping the sword out highly effective against even light armors.
- Cross Block Strike - After performing a cross block, a quick jab with the forward crossed arm can snap out for a quick counter strike. It's usually not as strong as a standard Snap Slash, but when timed right can be very devastating.
- Burst Punch – A more powerful and risky version of the Pommel Upper Cut. Like the Pommel Upper Cut, it is used when one in short range with the addition of a jump added for more force. This attack is most effective when lower to the ground, like in a crouch, to allow for more momentum.
- Tornado Strike - Spinning to one side of an opponent, the blades are kept close for defense until the spin is completed with a quick strike strengthened by momentum.
- The Twisted Pommel – Similar to twisting a dagger's blade in a wound, the Twisted Pommel is an attack in which the fighter twists his wrist after making contact with his opponent to dig the attack deeper. The motion directs pressure to the center of the attack and amplifies the effect of the punch. So great is this amplification, a student can sometimes kill an enemy with a single hit.
- The Flurry – Having gained a decent amount of mastery in utilizing the reverse grip of a short sword, the Flurry actually involves a well timed placement of attacks and blocks that require the user to switch the grip of his swords in between motions. This display tends to create the illusion of many attacks as the fighter maneuvers about his opponent and can be used to create openings for much deadlier strikes.
- The Bladed Serpent – Just as the Serpent’s Coil technique is used in Rhingorda, student is taught how to get close to an enemy and slowly attack the enemy relentlessly with the legs, while one sticks to the enemy by using the hands, until the enemy dies. The difference is that a Serhingorda student is able to dig the edge of his blades into the opponents body as he moves about, quickening the effectiveness of the technique.
