From the Original Description of "Fort Forsaken" -

Secrets : The single drawbridge, constructed of Dwarven steel, crosses the moat at its widest point. The great iron chains which moor it to the gate house are capable of pulling the bridge straight up, leaving the dubious delights of the dark moat to be crossed before any effort can be made to gain access to the castle. A second line of defense is the Dwarven Steel portcullis inserted inside the gate house. It can be opened and closed by a great wheel mechanism within the gate house walls.

The towering black walls of Castle Carmelya reach for the skies before you. In front of all visitors is a moat full of dangerous aquatic life. During the day, the drawbridge is often down for traders to come and go, but if a person arrives in the morning or closer to dark, the drawbridge will be drawn.

Atop the wall and posted on the far side of the bridge are guards watching over possible entrants. They stop all visitors the same way, asking for their name and purpose, checking any weaponry them seem necessary.

"Serale there, please present your visa and state your purpose. If you are carrying weaponry, we need to see it. No brandishing of weapons inside the castle walls is allowed. You will be arrested and punished accordingly."
