Recruiting for a search and rescue (Cyrus, Eyvind, and kella please, open to jade.)
Kella
The letter that would await Kella Greeran in her quarters would read as such.
Senior Legionnaire Greeran,
I know you don't know me, but I am a Enlisted Recruit in the Jade Legion.
A fellow Legionnaire has gone missing, and I am mounting a search and rescue mission to the Primus Countryside to find him. I am requesting your help. Eyvind Redbeard, and Cyrus Marius, whom you are already acquainted with from the ambush incident in Old Prime are also being requested to join me. If you can't it is understood, but if you can, please meet me on the main training field the next brightening with three brightenings worth of supplies, and any combat gear you have to muster. I fear we have quite a search ahead of us.
Enlisted Recruit
Teig O'Maolain
Cyrus and Eyvind
The letter that would await Cyrus Marius and Eyvind Redbeard would read as such.
My friend,
Tarfuss is in trouble. He has not returned after receiving a day off.
I fear the worst. Tommorow I will be leading a search and rescue operation to the primus countryside to find him, or what happened to him. If you can join me, I need you to bring three brightenings worth of supplies, and whatever weapons you can muster. I fear the worst. Please help me to find our comrade, I have requested the aid of Legionnaire Kella Greeran, whom with you are well acquainted. I will also attempt to enlist the aid of a few Jade recruits. Tommorow, Training field. 7th candlemark.
Teig
Inside Barracks 2C: Teig posted a sign.
I need two good recruits to come out to the training field at the 7th candlemark, with three days worth of supplies and combat arms. I will only be able to take two more men.
This is not mandatory, but it is to help a fellow legionnaire, and your participation will be noted.
Thank you.
Teig
The Next Brightening.
It was cold as the 6th candlemark hit, but Teig couldn't sleep. after delivering the letters to kella Cyrus and Eyvind, and posting the notice in the barracks. he had requisitioned his camping supplies from the Armory. He donned his combat uniform and armored up. He then went out to the Training field. On each hip were one of his swords, the longsword on his left hip, his rapier on his right. He was prepared to die this day. but he hoped simply to find his friend.
He took a deep breath and awaited whomever would come to his aid.
OOC: I will keep this thread open until midnight thursday. If you're not in, by then, you're not in.

(OOC: No caps for my name? I see how it is, exclude the ladies )
IC:
Kella's hot little hands snatched up the letter with greater zeal than was to be expected of standard military mail. Upon reading the note her face scrunched a bit, mildly disappointed at its contents. While it wasn't what she was hoping for, she couldn't say it was without its own intrigue.
She looked at the roster of expected participants and evaluated them mentally.
Ah Cyrus, her tumbling partner and a capable fighter. Most people missing body parts, tended to be a much crankier sort, understandably so, but Cyrus had a surprisingly good sense of humor. Their foray into the world of acrobatics had made her prodigiously fond of the man, perhaps a little more than fond.
And Eyvind, her personal pet Vagaran. Maybe this time he wouldn't get her into some form of trouble or pain. Maybe all would be well. Maybe the gods would smile on her. Maybe…
Her hopeful thoughts imploded in a great debacle of flopping ideals as she came to the conclusion:
Maybe she was asking too much.
It was hard to not like a fellow so perversely smitten with you, though. He was tried and true, a good friend. And if all else failed, he would make an excellent human shield due to his fantastic height.
This Teig fellow she didn't know much about. Only that he had a taste for heroism and extended camping trips. The former Kella could understand, the latter was baffling. Aelyria had progressed as a society and empire so they didn’t have to sleep in the dirt and eat twigs. Why fight progress? Granted, this was the military, she shouldn't be too fussy.
On the established brightening, Kella arrived in her civilian garb of a simple deep blue tunic and black pants. A belt hung with a pouch and dangling a small drinking skin cinched her waist. Her pack made her look a beast of burden, as she fidgeted with its shoulder straps.

(OOC: thanks for the human shield utility Kella )
Tarfuss was missing? With all his Officer Training Eyvind had completely forget about his companions. He hoped Tarfuss was alright because he befriended the man and because he would second him in the command of the expedition to the mountains. The Senior Legionnaire wanted to make sure this search and rescue mission had no problems and therefore was gathering all the needed belongings. His large backpack with rations for eight Brightenings , his messkit, a tinderbox, a sewing kit, rope, lantern, small axe, flask of oil...what is missing? Ah! A roll twine, bandages and that grappling hook and the climbing hammer. Now the weapons. Longsword in its scabbard, Longbow inside its sheath hanging from one side the backpack, his dagger in the belt, the spear I'll carry myself, the shield will be attached to the backpack. AH! I almost forgot both tent and bedroll!
These were Eyvind's thoughts as he prepared his backpack, the he dressed his chainmail armor and placed a brown thin cloak over it to hide any shine the metal could do. With his helmet under his left arm and the spear in his hand Eyvind left the barracks with his backpack on his backs. Upon arriving to the Training Field the Vagaran, who almost looked like a packmule, nodded to both Teig and Kella as if saluting.
"Serale. Here I am Teig. Tell me what you know of Tarfuss, what happened to him?" Eyvind was both concerned and in need of information because in a search and rescue mission every bit of information available weights more than gold.

The slight jangle of metal striking metal heralded Cyrus' entrance onto the training field. The young legionnaire's thick mass of blonde hair was tied tightly back into a single tail, the better to wear beneath the Imperial helmet that was secured tightly to the pack on his back. His equipment was whittled down to the absolute minimum, only what food and water he would need for the journey, and some small medical supplies taken from the infirmary in case they needed them. He wore the chainmail hauberk and steel greaves that he had been issued, but was otherwise clothed in his drab gray legion issued clothing. An imperial longsword hung from his left hip, a second, similar but slightly shorter sword could be seen also secured to the thick pack, and a seven foot infantry spear was held in the soldier's right fist.
The early morning wind pulled and tugged at the loose-fitting clothing and the jade cloak that hung from his broad shoulders, but Cyrus did not seem to mind. His cobalt eye was resting on the assembled forms of his companions, and he nodded his greeting as he approached where they stood.
"Serale, lady and gentlemen." He smiled warmly at Kella and Eyvind, memories of their previous exploits returning at the sight of their familiar faces. Though they had shared some frightening and difficult experiances, they had shared just as many exciting and entertaining ones as well, and Cyrus had come to have a deep respect and affection for his fellows. His gaze lingered for a moment, but then he remembered the reason why they were all out on the field at this hour of the brightening, and he turned his attenion back to Teig.
"So, our friend Tarfuss is missing, is he? Any reason to suspect that he might be in danger rather than visiting the Dragon or some such place, or did you just want to see me model my travelling pack?"

The mission:
(OOC: Kella, you know I have much love, I was just exhausted when I posted this. from now on, all kella's will be treated as Kella's! This is gonna be hopefully a lot of fun.)
Teig turned to his three companions.
Kella, I've yet to serve with you, but your reputation preceeds you. Eyvind, Cyrus, It's good to see you again my friends. Now, while Cyrus does look magnificent in his pack, It's been three brightenings since Tarfuss left. His pass was for a single day. Cyrus, Eyvind, that's just not like him and you both know it. I have Commander De'Bali's permission to Head up a small search and rescue party. It was his orders to pack for three days, and his orders to gather a small team. I know all three of you technically out rank me, but I appreciate you joining me on this mission all the same. Valanthia L'Evienne delivered a message to Commander De'Bali's office.
He handed them all a copy of the letter.
Serale,
I am writing this message at the behest of one of your Imperial Legionnaires, one Tarfuss. I met him by chance while traveling through the Primus Countryside on the 5th of Immanis, and had stopped to ask him directions.
While we were talking, a strange event occurred. All light, including the fire and all natural sources, were suddenly extinguished, so that we were left completely in the dark. At the same time, an unnatural chill, as vicious as the worst winter cold, came upon us. This lasted for some time; when the light and heat were suddenly restored, we were confronted by some sort of horse, which approached us, smelling of fresh blood.
At this point, I chose to flee the scene. I encouraged Tarfuss to do so as well, but he insisted that it was his duty as a Legionnaire to determine what the threat was and to do his best to neutralize it so that it would not harm anyone else. Instead, he covered my retreat, and asked that I convey this message back to the Legion.
If he has not returned, this is the last information I have of him, bravely standing in the line of his duty. If he has returned, you should know that he performed admirably, protecting the weak such as myself, and performing his tasks as a Legionnaire even in the face of great personal risk.
With all due respect,
~Val
He gave them all time to read the letter, then He picked up his pack and slung it on his shoulder.
If you're with me, Thank you. If not, I understand. Either way, we need to get moving into the countryside,I'm going to wait here for about fifteen more minutes to see if any of the new recruits are going to come, and then it will be time to move out and see if we can't find him.
He smiled, nodded, and turned to the rising of the sun.

Eyvind finished reading the letter and then listened to Teig's words. Shaking his head and grinning he said.
"Why do you think I lost my precious time preparing my backpack? Of course I am with you lad. I think we all are otherwise we wouldn't be here. The Legion is a family and we must look after each other, I know most of you would do the same for me." Eyvind glanced at Kella "So let's examine what the letter says." Eyvind pointed to the reference to a horse "What kind of horses smell like blood? And who in Aeternia is this Valanthia L'Evienne?"
Eyvind looked to the others while waiting for an answer.

(OOC: With a cast like this, it would take considerable effort to make it not fun. And Eyvy, that's just so you know you're appreciated ;) .)
At Eyvind's approach, Kella erupted in her typical cheek.
"Lud, Ginger! Did we pack enough, milady, or did you have to leave your skin creams at home?"
Suddenly struck with the realization that it was likely she would need something he carried, Kella tried to downplay her initial tease with the rest of her greeting.
"It's good to see you, Ginger."
But her salutation was lost as Eyvind went straight to the core of the matter. Kella made a face, mildly put off by his abrupt greeting, and grumbled under her breath,
"Fine thanks, you?"
She wasn't all that surprised by his terse Serale. When Eyvind was in his soldier state of mind his interactions could be downright fierce.
Kella caught Cyrus's approaching silhouette. Everyone seemed to have brought their spears but her. She felt a little left out, but consoled herself with the though of the sword and halberd secured at angle across the back of her pack. She slid it out of its place and set it on the ground beside her, so she could sit in the grass unhindered.
Spears were not her particular favorite for traveling. When she envisioned herself touting the weapon in the wilderness, the mental pictures always ended messily at the bottom of some hill with her spear twined between her feet.
At Cyrus's joke about modeling his pack, the Vagaran rolled back on her seat with a half-cocked grin. The girl gave an appreciative cat-call, and almost asked him to turn in a slow circle.
"'Rale Cyrus, looking smashing in this season's military wear."
Her flippant nature was not indulged for long as the instigator of the little party started to address them about his friend, Tuchus or Tufuss, or something like that.
The proffered letter was taken quickly, and Kella, a voracious reader, finished it swiftly, even though incredulity forced her to re-read some portions. A light expunging horse. Where did the deities come up with these things?
She observed aloud, "Fresh blood? So it smelled metallic and salty?"
Kella frowned. "How quaint."
After Eyvind spoke, Kella voiced her inclusion in the adventure as well.
"Why not? I've always wanted a pony."

Cyrus smiled at his fellow legionnaire's banter, and he flexed and turned himself this way and that for a moment in a mock modeling display, but he quickly turned his attention to the letter that Teig pressed into his hand. His lone azure orb flew over the written words, but the name Valanthia L'Evienne jumped out at him immediately. His expression darkened dangerously, and his right hand tightened on the wooden shaft of his spear. Sometimes, Telath just wasn't big enough, he thought to himself.
The letter's contents disturbed him as well, but they did not entirely surprise him. So the wolf-woman had run off when danger threatened, leaving Tarfuss behind to face the mystery alone? Cyrus scoffed under his breath at the thought, remembering the day that Val and her Sanguine sister Jade had accosted him in the Crown tavern. Valanthia had been composed and rigid, as if she were encased in ice that protected her from the dangers of the world. However, as Cyrus turned threatening and ferocious, her facade had crumbled and she had retreated with all haste back to her mistress' side. The one called Jade had lingered longer, out of an intermingled sense of bravery and naivety, but she to had wilted beneath Cyrus' fiery projection.
"She is the regent's sister." the young legionnaire answered in response to Eyvind's question, his deep voice stoic and steady, hiding all personal knowledge he had of the half-vyssie Sanguine.
The soldier glanced at his copy of the letter again, then shugged slightly and handed it back to Teig. He had never heard of anything like the letter described, but it was nothing that Cyrus felt he and his comrades couldn't handle. With allies like the soldiers that surrounded him, the legionnaire would walk into Aeternia without a trace of fear or apprehension in his heart.
"Count me in."

Teig smiled, and when enough time had passed, and no one else had come, he nodded.
"Thank you, all of you. Let's head for the countryside. I guess we have to find Valanthia, or hunt for tarfuss. I'd personally like to hunt for Tarfuss, the countryside can't be that big enough for him to hide in. Follow Me.
Teig led the way, and he hoped that it would just be a http://www.playbypost.com/forums/primus...ml#post1219301

Please, go ahead and post in the thread by following the link that Teig has given. Your first posts should just be setting out to find Tarfuss. It will be dark at this point, so make sure you have your lanterns!
