[Basic Training] PT... Good for You, Good for Me

Senior Legionnaire Werlington was awake before anybody else while the entire military district was at a still calm before the brightening began. This was his favorite part of the day- a time when he could think clearly and smell the dew from the night before it starts to burn away with the rising of the suns. It also meant he was about to work out and that thought sent an involuntary smile across his lips. The fact that he was soon to be accompanied by nearly thirty new recruits only twisted the smile into an almost evil grin.

He had a wonderful workout in mind with plenty of running. The eighteen year old human male was a runner, after all, and his passion was running. The soldier sincerely thought that if anybody can run up and down hills for miles on end, they were fit enough to take on just about anything else they had to face. Of course some strength training would fill out the rest of their body, but the new recruits would run longer and further than they ever thought their bodies could take them.

Werlington closed his eyes and took a deep breath. They would be here soon as the first shade of light started to touch the clouds overhead. If they arrived after he saw the top of the first sun, they were late. With that last thought, the grin returned and he opened his eyes. The Senior Legionnaire was ready, but he sincerely doubted the recruits were.

Teig O'Maolain is unknown and forgotten
Teig O'Maolain strode out from the barracks, at a decent pace. The suns had not yet risen, and he felt confident he'd be the first to arrive. Recognizing the senior legionnaire, he greeted him.

"Sir, Serale Senior Legionnaire Wellington, Sir!"

He had seen Wellington run his training runs before, and after five cycles in the legion, he was pretty sure he was ready to tag it on. He reported in training uniform, and hoisted his armor in a rucksack. His training sword was hooked to one hip, and his steel longsword to the other. Both were sheathed.

He dropped his rucksack and came to full attention.

"Will I be needing the equipment sir?

ooc: Currently I have one other training thread aside from the reporting for sword training. I will be completing that soon… So is this counted as one of the two training thread as well?.

Argyles was already awaken and feeding his falcon within his bunk when he heard someone opened and closed the door. It was not even the first mark yet, and someone seemed to be very eager to be training. Argyles smiled at this point as it was one of the few things he found better than his previous place. Everyone seemed to be hiding in their room till it was time to move.

He prepared himself, and made sure his weapons and uniform were at the right place, and no bumps or folds were found in the wrong place. When he was sure everything was right, he walked out from the barracks and found a familiar face somewhere in front. Argyles quicken his pace until he reached where Teig stopped.

”Argyles Doran reporting for duty, sir!” Argyles said in a clear voice that could never come from one that just woke up while standing in proper military attention posture. He dropped his rucksack as he seen Teig did and waited for further instructions.

Tarfuss is unknown and forgotten
Tarfuss woke up a little early and took the opportunity to stretch. He was better at running now than he had been, but running for distance was not his forte. He was a strength athelete. He was an ox, not a deer. He knew he'd have to improve his running, however. His last training classes had helped that, but he would have to work hard.

He finished his stretching and gathered his gear neatly and set off in the uniform prescribed for training. He reached the training field just after Teig and took the spot next to him, putting his bundle on the ground. "Recruit Tarfuss reporting as ordered, sir!"

Cellen awoke, sat on the side of the cot a started to dress. Watching the others moving around the barracks as he did. He recognized none of them. Messing around with his uniform and weapons until he was happy to leave and go outside.

Walking down the length of the long room with the others he was caught up in the early morning enthusiasm.

He left the barracks at a run, noticed the sun was just rising in the sky and headed for the other recruits in the yard. Pushing himself in to line.

" Callen reporting for duty, sir!” he directed at Senior Legionnaire Werlington.

Once all the trainees arrived, Werlington looked them over and shook his head. There was a lot of work to do and it never seemed like enough time to do it. Some of the recruits had a few ounces they surely hoped to rid themselves of while others were simply fat. Just plain overweight and would need to slim down immensely in order to get into any shape relatively close to suitable for combat.

After each had reported in, he glanced at the first sun and saw half of it. He furrowed his brow and Werlington announced, "I'm Senior Legionnaire Werlington. You will call me 'sir' at all times. I am here to get this ragged group of people in good enough shape to fight and defend this Empire regardless of what the threat is. You are here to obey me and push as hard as you physically and mentally can every brightening so that you will have the ability to be an effective Legionnaire." He pointed to the horizon across the field and asked, "See the first sun rising over the edge of the Empire? That means you are late!" He did not scream or yell, only explained their error in a way they understood he was disappointed.

"Being late is not an option," Werlington continued. "You will all learn discipline and you will all learn to not be late. Wear your chainmail and leave the rest behind. We're going on a run." With that, the Senior Legionnaire took off without waiting on the rest of the recruits. They would need to follow his directions and get moving quickly to catch up. Once they did that, he would increase the pace and head around the military district. He knew where they were going and could not wait to get there.

OOC: This thread does NOT count towards a training thread. It is simply an extension of your basic training.

Tarfuss listened as Senior Legionnaire Werlington made his speach and indicated his displeasure. Of course he was displeased. He was a trainer of recruits and they were recruits. Displeasure was the logical outcome to that equation. This was the way of basic training. It didn't, however, make Tarfuss feel any better. He meant to not merely succeed here, he meant to excell.

The trainer finished his speech and he was gone. Off to take a bite out of the sun, apparently. Tarfuss dumped all of his gear except his chainmail, which he was wearing and took off after the Senior Legionnaire. He paced himself and didn't attempt to pass Werlington. He had been running daily since joining the Legion and was much better than he had been, but had a lot of room for improvement, and he knew it.

After Werlington's touching speech and seeing him running off, Argyles wiped a tear of his left eye and smiled. It was just like old times, running and crawling and jumping around with his guardian, even though at that time, it was supposed to be playing, but one just can't imagine how a small human child could ever tried to keep pace with a giant, abiet a small-sized one, whose one step could easily meant the child's eight to nine steps.

Stretching his back a little, he dropped everything but his chainmail and followed Werlington in his run. Argyles kept his Imperia Military training in his mind, and kept his pace, taking one step for every single step Werlington took, thus never overtaking, never slowing down, running just behind the first runner behind Werlington.

Teig unsheathed his belt, and took off, keeping pace with Tarfuss. The Legionnaire's physical conditioning, though, was built for stamina, so speed began to be of a difficult nature to come by. He kept pushing himself onward though. He eagerly awaited any twist that Wellington might throw at him.

The Senior Legionnaire glanced behind him and smiled. This is what drove him every brightening- making sure he was better than the man behind him. Hopefully he could instill that same sort of competitiveness in the recruits who were following him. "Move faster!" he called over his shoulder as they started up a hill. Werlington drove his toes into the ground as it steepened and he used his upper leg muscles to pull him up the incline.

Just as soon as he reached the top of the hill, Werlington looked back behind him to find that some were doing a reasonable job at keeping up while a good lot of them were barely reaching the hill. They all slowed when they reached the slope and that grin came back to his lips as they struggled to scramble upwards. He kept his legs moving and his heart rate up so that when he wanted to, he could sprint off again.

When the last recruit reached the top, Senior Legionnaire Werlington turned and took off, this time towards the dense trees which covered the top of the steep hill. He knew the path well even though there was not anything around to actually mark the way. He slowed his pace because he did not want the recruits to fall so far behind that they would get lost, but he made sure he was still far enough ahead of the group. He took sharp turns here and there and jumped logs which happen to have fallen in their path. The entire time he was smiling until he finally reached his destination. A small clearing in the woods opened up enough for a few wooden benches, some posts with metal rods between them, and a wooden beam about twenty feet high with three ropes dangling down. He stopped here and waited for the entire group to catch up and catch their breath.

Tarfuss gritted his teeth and powered his way up the hill. He could feel the muscles in his thighs start to burn, but he shrugged it off. It felt good to be moving and he focused his mind on keeping up with the instructor. As he ran through the woods he was careful not to trip over the forest debris as he sucked in the moist air of the woods. Upon reaching the clearing Tarfuss moved to one side not far from the Instructor so everyone would have room in the clearing. He looked at the structures and had a general idea of what was to come next.

Teig continued to keep pace with Tarfuss as best he could. His nimble legs deftly dodged the logs fallen on the ground before him. It wasn't until they reached the clearing that his wide eyed grin faded, and his lungs began to burn with fatigue. He could run, but he couldn't run forever.

The Kemite went quite leisurely, keeping his one man distance away from the Senior Legionnaire so that he would always be the third man in the line. He allowed the wind to blow through his hair, and enjoying the sceneries. He noted several others were attempting to catch up, as if being the first man in line would allow them to claim a large prize of one thousand crowns. He continued pacing exactly with the Senior Legionnaire until he saw something he quite dislike running.

'A slope' Argyles groaned inwardly, not showing anything out. 'Mercy me, mercy me, I hate slopes.' Bending lower and keeping his body foward, he allowed momentum to carry him along, and thus increasing his slower running speeds on a slope. He was used to plains, the desert, and forested land, a little slope, here and there was alright, but he never love running up a hill, down yes, but never up. It slowed him down too much, and had to use his momentum strategy, which would use quite a bit more of his reserved staminia.

When the Senior Legionnaire continued towards the trees, Argyles found that he could not keep pace anymore as he could not even see the Senior Legionnaire most of the time with his turning, jumpings and twisting. He sighed as he followed the man in front, making sure he wasn't lost. His efforts paid off when they stop in the clearings. The Kemite took tall, and gave himself ten deep breathes and a little leg stretching to recover some of his strength. He knew he needed more strength as he felt that the run was only the beginning. 'Oh, if not because of that stupid slope' Argyles thought, 'I wouldn't had cared for this obstacle course thingy for I had often needed to climb trees, walls, and leap across a large canal to reach my childhood home. This Legionnaire must know that I hate slope.'

It was not point complaining about anything, but Argyles just felt good, thinking that the Legionnaire was attempting to torture him by leading him to the place his physic was not tuned to, and still finished the torture. It was an uplifting thought, though he knew it could not be true.

Senior Legionnaire Werlington just watched. His eyes scanned those surrounding him and that same sly grin slowly spread upon his lips. Though he never came off as arrogant, the man was proud of the fact that he was in better shape than the recruits who had finally all gathered in the clearing.

Without missing a beat, he took off. Under the bars and darting through the trees, he suddenly sprinted and only quickly gave a glance behind him to see, and enjoy, the expressions and reactions of the recruits who thought they were finished running. Werlington darted behind the tall wall and disappeared into the thick brush almost as quickly as he covered open ground. The ground sloped down slightly this time which may be more ideal to those with longer legs, however the overhead canopy of the tree branches and full spring leaves would slow down those of uncommonly tall stature.

The ground kept sloping until it turned into a dry stream bed which he ran down the center of. A few roots of trees growing along the bank stuck up through the dried mud. He easily glided over these roots as he ran, though, as he had done so many times before. Eventually, the former stream bed let out into the plains alongside the back of one of the training fields. Werlington took the opportunity to push the throttle up to full speed as he circled the field and eventually ended up where the group had originally started. He obviously beat the entire gaggle of future soldiers, but he waited patiently for them to finish as he stretched his muscles to avoid injury. As they filed in, he instructed them to form up again even if they were too short of breath to stand for much longer.

After the last recruit arrived, Werlington addressed the entire group. "Well that was fun, yes?" With a smile, he pressed on. "Report back here tomorrow. Same time, so don't be late. And next time, we are wearing full armor and keeping your swords with you." With that, he dismissed the group and turned to jog away apparently not finished with his workout for the brightening.

Argyles was attempting to recover a little more as he waited with the faster runners on top of the hill, but he had not expect the Senior Legionnaire had decided to begin the downhill run again as the last runner arrived. He sighed and followed, mindful to keep his pace, else he might be overly exhuasted by the end of the run.

The downhill run was much better than uphill, and slowly, he recovered his stamina though he had allowed several others to overtake him. He had decided to maintain his usual pace, not wanting to slow down as those in front did whenever there were obstacles then increasing speed when there was none. It would be more tiring if there were a lot of speed variations.

At the end of the run, Argyles formed with the others after a little stretching, panting a little. The kemite sighed deeply after seeing Werlington jogging off again. "Full battle order tomorrow, and I hope he don't decide that after tomorrow run, we would be expected to carry a ton of water, a stretcher and several useless stone as well."

The complain was directed to no one in particular, and it was rather soft. Only those that were around his immediate vincinty would be able to hear it.
