High Speed Internet

For most people, having a fast Internet connection is a way of life, especially if you're into speed-intensive applications, like gaming or downloading files. Running a website is no different, but recently, the options available in choosing a High Speed Internet service provider are growing increasingly unattractive.
In the United States, the term "High Speed Internet" typically applies to one of four services:

So, how about all of you? What sort of high speed Internet access do you have, and how do you feel about its performance?

- A Dedicated/Digital Subscriber Line, or DSL, with 3.0 Mb / 768 Kb speeds.
- A Shared Cable Broadband Speed, with 6.0 / 768 Kb speeds.
- Shared Fiber Optic, with 30 Mb / 10 Mb speeds.
- Dedicated Fiber Optic, with 50 Mb / 20 Mb speeds.

So, how about all of you? What sort of high speed Internet access do you have, and how do you feel about its performance?

Here is my lower end Verizon FIOS result:
![]() It's funny because I got the same results going to Portland, MN. ![]() Ping was just higher. Oh and I love my FIOS. I need to run the speed test tonight and look at off-peak times because I can usually get close to 8Mb on the download. |

Not being into the cute graphics
the first test was 150 mls to Washington DC with a ping of 60ms 12357kb/s download 1817kb/s upload the second test was to Adelaide Australia with 303ms ping 2171kb/s download 541kb/s upload. |
