[Location] Starshadow Spire, Moss Weave District

Starshadow Spire

The Gil’dae Residence

 Outside
Nestled on the border of the Moss Weave District, surrounded by fantastically beautiful and opulent properties, was one that seemed to tower slightly above the majority of the rest. Though there were rumors abound regarding the property including the whispers of the locale being haunted, the most recent ones were about the fact that the new owner was, in fact, a mainlander. The rumors did little to deter the new owner, however, an elf of some repute. The Starshadow Spire, as it had been newly christened, lay on a sprawling piece of property, allowing for children to frolic and play at their leisure, which happened frequently. The entryway was little more than a brick path constructed of Ariosian Crystal, winding back and forth. Flanking the path was a ‘Carmelya’s Choice’ garden, which was to say that a handful of random seeds were tossed into the dirt and whatever flourished there was kept. The barely tamed wildflowers that greeted arriving guests were nothing compared to the large garden behind the main structure of the same design, only on a much, much larger scale, which eventually bled into the Ariosian Forest, lending to the mystical nature of the lands surrounding the domicile.

As one approached, the main structure dominated the view. Constructed of the same crystal as the pathway that lead up to it, the central spire was six stories tall, with a five-story tower flanking each side, connected at the first and second stories. Halfway up the path it branched off into two opposing paths in addition to the main one, each leading to one of the flanking spires, allowing for secondary access from each of them. Each of these outside paths then branched once more, leading out each to an independent three-story spire.

 Stand-Alone Spires
The leftmost one was originally designed to be a three-bedroom house for the staff of the Spire, and it has since been converted into a barracks on the first floor for the Quicksilver Guard, allowing all the members of the personal guard force of the Gil’daes to rest and relax on cots, with footlockers in front of each. The second and third floors were split to make smaller personal rooms for staff members such as a pair of chambermaids, the cook, and the groundskeeper.

The rightmost spire was kept in its original design, a small three-bedroom guest house for any who visit. The first floor is the common living area, the second is split into two bedrooms, and the third is the third, mini-‘master’ bedroom.

 First Floor – Central Spire
The central spire’s double doors were modest in size while still retaining a sense of dominance and authority, a small overhanging stoop sheltering visitors while they await permission to enter. Once inside it became apparent that though the twisting spire construct was beautiful to behold, it could also be functional, if unorthodox. The first floor of the central spire held the moderately-sized foyer, where guests were greeted, decorated modestly in lush hues of purple and silver, which intermingled nicely with the crystalline structure. A pair of large, sturdy ladders line both left and right side of the foyer to permit one to ascend the spire.

Straight back were a set of double doors that lead to the ballroom, though since the Gil’daes never hosted such events it had been converted into a large-scale training room. Covering the left and right walls were mirrors, and along the rearmost section were racks of training weapons. Mats covered the left half of the floor, the right left its bare, smooth crystal. Dummies lined the rear left wall, targets the rear right, allowing for a single person to train any type of combat skill be it arcane or martial, no matter the weather.

In the middle of the rear wall was a series of four large circular windows to let light in. As the room was designed to be open so revelers may move about freely, it was capable of easily accommodating fifty training soldiers at once, though the Gil’daes did not employ so many. Because it was designed so large, it dominated the majority of the first floor of the central spire.

First Floor – Left Spire
Were one to instead trek down the left hallway from the foyer, they would be led into the large dining hall. A door at the rear end of the room allowed outside access, meaning people could be invited in directly from outside if desired. A thick and plush wine-colored carpet covered the entirety of the floor, making for silent footfalls that contrasted with the echoing crystal floor of the foyer, and though a swinging door that separated the two muffled noises coming from the main spire’s welcoming chamber, a heavier lockable door was present as well, though it was usually left open.

The large thick redwood table was capable of accommodating fifty at least; this was where all meals were held. Servants and nobles alike all eat at one table, for it was commonly held in the Gil’dae household that mealtime was where rank and status truly don’t matter and everyone, for those moments, become equal. Small, tasteful elven tapestries lined the walls alternating with candelabras, as well as the candles atop the table and from the iron chandeliers that hang above by chains to allow the dining room to remain very well lit.

Straight back would be the door that led to the kitchen, and since it was made to prepare meals for many, it was a sizable and well-stocked one indeed. Though the room itself held the potential to craft masterpieces, the cooks of the Gil’dae household were usually far more modest in the fare they prepared for the Starshadow Spire’s numerous occupants. A ladder leading up to the second floor was located in a back corner here, allowing servant access without a need to travel through the dining room. Behind the kitchen was a large cooled storeroom, where all the food and drink, fresh or otherwise, was stored until needed.

First Floor – Right Spire
Along the path to the right of the foyer was one of the most occupied and loved rooms in the Gil’dae household: the library. Shelves and shelves lined every wall, which was covered with books of all walks of life. Some were on arcane, others on history, some how to do a particular random skill, some simple amusing fiction or theatre. The floor was covered with several bright multicolored throw carpets to help catch the light. A few small cherrywood tables decorated the sizable room, and straight back was a large tapestry of the Kingdom as it was in ancient times, when elves first settled the lands. Candles and candleholders were everywhere throughout the room between carpets, using the crystal construct to its benefit, making everything much harder to burn if one of them were left melting too long.

Above the bookcases were several circular windows constructed of thin panes of the same crystal, allowing an abundance of light into the room. In the rear rightmost corner was a large hearth usually kept continually burning, flanked by two overstuffed easy chairs, next to each was a small end table where a drink or book may be rest. The rear leftmost corner had a small rollaway chalkboard behind a podium, which faced a handful of desks in front of it where the children are usually educated from home by Eri’Lariel. So beloved was the library that it was the only room on the first floor that dominates an entire spire floor by itself, though granted it was still only slightly smaller than the ballroom and far more crowded with desks, bookcases, chairs, tables to study at, and its ilk.

At the front of the large library was a single modest door, permitting visitors to come and go as they pleased, and oftentimes the Gil'daes were not opposed to letting other Ariosians come read from their shelves. Because of this, however, the hallway between Central and Right Spire had a lockable and barrable door, though usually it was left open.

 Second and Third Floors
The entirety of the second floor was an assortment of bedrooms for the family members of Starshadow Spire. Each spire was split in twain, each of those rooms personal bedchambers and washrooms for the members of the family save the Lord and Lady of the home. Each outer spire was connected together by a hallway leading to the central spire, which had a small commons area where the ladders below lead to, and to the ladder above. Each room contained a bed large enough to fit two, a wardrobe, a desk, an easy chair, and a door leading to a private washroom. Each room was in different configurations and had different accoutrements depending on its owner.

The third floors of the outer spires were identical to the third, only without a connecting hallway to the central spire. The central spire’s third floor was the nursery of the Gil’dae household. A small handful of cradles as well as changing stations for little ones, this is where any were welcome to keep their children. Half the room had been converted to a play area, lush with just about every child’s toy imaginable thanks to Motito’s purchase of an entire toy store in Prime for its merchandise. The walls were a gentle blue, and several windows decorated it to allow light in throughout the floor, permitting it to be well-lit.

 Fourth Floor
The outer spires on the fourth floor were general storage where everything not adorning one of the other rooms was kept, along with Motito’s spoils from various adventures, campaigns, gifts, and the like that he’d collected over the eras. The leftmost spire was devoted solely to Motito and his wife’s extra things, of which there were many, and the rightmost was storage for the entire rest of the Gil’dae family.

The central spire’s fourth floor, however, was a reception room that was more private than the foyer, but more formal than a bedroom or study. A plush purple carpet covered the floor and rich tapestries along the walls, and a series of couches and loveseats adorn the room, as well as single easy chairs is a very symmetrical design, allowing for the reception of a small group of people without being too crowded. To complete the scene of coziness, a hearth burned in the corner, and near the ladder that led up from the floor beneath and continued up to the master suite stood a small wet bar where crystal decanters held a variety of alcoholic liquids from all over the Kingdom. When not in use for formal purposes, it was not unusual to find the Master or Mistress of the household relaxing here when they were not occupied elsewhere.

 Fifth Floor
Both left and right spire’s fifth floor each contained a small lounge area and lookout of sorts where people could get away and gaze out at the scenery around the isle of Arios, and just relax and chat with each other in a more intimate setting. Since this was the peak, windows lined the wall that spiraled into a combined wall and ceiling, allowing the rooms to remain very well lit. Several small pillows and a large carpet adorned this level, allowing people to simply relax on the floor comfortably. A small desk resided in each allowing them to pen anything they liked in more privacy than the library offered without the seclusion of their own bedchamber.

Only one large room occupied the fifth floor of the central spire, and that was the master bedroom. A large bed capable of holding several, as many of the Gil’dae young came climbing into bed with their parents to snuggle, chat, and the like at various times of the brightening, was against the left wall with silver and red satin sheets to show the dominant colors of both lord and lady’s own personage. Farther back in the rear left corner was an overstuffed chair facing a small hearth, which had a medium-sized purple throw carpet in front of it. Directly back was a pair of double doors that led to the only balcony on the building, and a small one it was so as not to detract from the spiral design of the structure proper. The right wall in the back corner was a large armoire for Eri’Lariel, and in the front right corner was a duplicate for Motito. Flanking each in mirror versions of each other were small sturdy oak desks, each very neatly kept with a small stack of documents upon each. In the middle, between the desks, was a door that led to the Master Washroom, where the Gil’dae couple could bathe together if they wished in a crystal tub which rest against the wall opposite the door, a large window allowing light down onto the tub, and a pair of matching showers flanked the inside of the door, and on opposite walls between tub and showers were a pair of washbasins where each could prepare for the brightening as they wished.

 Sixth Floor
The sixth floor of the central spire was led to by a private ladder from the Master suite between the door that led from the ladder down and the bed on the leftmost wall. The sixth floor was but one room as well, and this was the Master Study. A handful of small bookcases lined the wall closest to the ladder along with a pair of large easy chairs one could relax and read in, and a large, grandly designed desk dominated the opposing side. A large comfortable chair rest behind it, facing the ladder up, a small enchanted ruby rested upon his desk that doubled as both paperweight and light source, the ruby containing the elemental spell Glowing Orb to provide arcane luminescence. Behind the chair was a large window that allowed light to shine down directly onto the desk, so that even moon-and-starlight allowed it to never be completely dark lest a storm cloud abscond the source of light.

Facing the desk from the ladder, centered on the left wall was a full Military Dress outfit for a Field Marshal and Minister of War, above which was hung the high-grade dwarven steel elven longsword embossed with the old Mage Corps seal, the sheath emblazoned with the lettering of the name he’d first used when he’d signed up, ’Ivyblossom’. To the right was a field outfit of the newly organized legions, down to even the equipment, kindly provided by Alexis along with several hundred other sets hidden away elsewhere. To the left were the Mage Corps robes he’d been given, a lush purple robe with five silver stripes along each cuff to denote his former Archmagery.

The right wall was a small altar of sorts, a private prayer and reflection center that Motito could devote to Phedos, whose holy symbol decorated the center of the wall flanked by texts of knowledge and legends about Phedos, along with a small reflecting tub which, from the center of the room, reflects Phedos’ symbol into a perfect mirror image.
