Fourth Brightening of the Second Cycle
Season of Ioannes, Summer Era XIV

Seth trekked up the long sloping steep incline of the grassy hill, up to where the trees were at their darkest. He had gone for a quick stint off into the wilderness for some time along; some time to reflect, some time to consider. The vision of himself in the hunting building still lurked in the crevices of his mind. Odd and unusual, it lurched out at him like a leper, leering into his thoughts and invading the comfortable tranquility and peace of mind he’d formerly enjoyed. Wah had been a moose. And Seth… a dragon? He shook his head as he reached the summit of the hill, the absence of color drawing him in like a black hole, a nexus for all the things he’d learned as of late in such a pathetically short span of time.

He made sure his bracelet was displayed prominently around his left wrist, the small bone circle with the claw attached to it a clear indicator he was welcome here. He doubted any of the tribal people though would forget his presence; the skin contrast was as clear as night and day, and Seth had certainly made quite an interest with Kanah, their chieftain.

He began to walk down the opposite side of the hill, where the village was housed from sight. The shrunken heads still stood out to him, but he managed to ignore them. For the most part. Unworldly blue eyes peered inquisitively at the children, who were busy playing a game in which they through sticks through a small barrel that rolled down the hill. Seth grinned and walked over to them, tapping one unexpecting young girl on the shoulder as she jumped back in surprise. Offering his hand, he politely asked for the stick before she realized his intentions and nodded eagerly, shoving it towards him. He drew back and tried to lob the stick through the barrel: he missed by a landmark, and they all laughed with him.

When he had finished entertaining the adolescent spirit of the tribe, he moved onwards to a house he had spied yesterday, that stood to him. It was a small little hovel, constructed much like a teepee, though with one wooden wall. The huge canvas that stood erected around a tall wooden post met the wood and was nailed down into it, huge bear skin flaps marking the entrance as a chain of skulls hung upon either side of the doorway, adorned with black and white beads. A plume of smoke drifted out of the top of the hut, and Seth made his way towards it slowly, adjusting the weight of his bow on his shoulder.

He’d seen the old woman. Oh yes, she was old. So very old, and so very unusual. He’d spotted her before he entered the hunter’s building with Wah, bent over a nearby bush on the fringes of the wilderness, her craggy elderly frame straining to collect a few leaves she cut from it. It was this action that had generated his interest: a herbalist. And quite possibly, one that knew an infinite amount more than what he could find back in Trysvale, given the nature of the village.

He knocked thrice on one of the wooden palls beside the door flap before opening it, swallowing hard at the sight of her unexpected appearance looming in front of him. She was small, short that is in height, definitely not girth – for which she accounted for plenty – with white paint smeared across her face in unrecognizable geometric patterns. She had two rings of bone pierced through her nostrils, and small little beads running down vertically from her lips to her chin. Behind her was a small cot, a tattered rug, and a large wooden bench filled with pots and basins of herbs. One of them was smoking, hung suspended over a small fire pit.

“Um, Serale,” Seth began, holding out his bracelet clearly for her to see, nervous smile hanging about his face.

As Seth ascended into the village a sense of serenity overcame him. It was a seculded village and everyone seemed to know everyone. The sight of a new face was, not welcomed. Trust was something earned and to be proven.

The children gigled as Seth played with them. Running away after he threw the stick. Was it because of the gigles they were laughing or because of fear?

Upon entering the hut of the woman it was clear this was a strange and bizzare place. A home was not something one like Seth would want here. Shrunken heads were on a shelf a small vase full of ears on another. The woman seemed like she was older then the gods. "Serale..."She whispered in a faint voice. The woman clearly was old from many years of work and eldership. The woman glanced at the braclet and was slightly taken back.

"Who..are you?" "How did you get that braclet?"the woman said in a frail voice. She turned from Seth and stired a pot of smoking herbs. The womans face was full of wrinkles and sun aged skin.
