Finished Crystal Gardens (realmcraft) - Multipage Version

Located on the southern edge of Demios between The Universitas District and the Nobles District is a sprawling resort complex that has been turned into a lovely indoor and outdoor garden paradise. Entirely fenced with tall black wrought iron, the complex sits as one of Demios' premier sites for tourism and pampering entertainment of the more exclusive variety. Put together as a group effort by a small tight-knit group of individuals, the Crystal Gardens has manifested itself as somewhat unique in all of Aelyria. The Resorts main feature is an enormous glass orangery built into the heart of the complex which houses an intricate tropical garden complete with birds, trees, flowering vines, and exotic butterflies of all varieties. Within this Orangery lies an exclusive restaurant that caters to the sophisticated pallet while still allowing diners to enjoy the beauty of the garden in private booths nestled in isolated pockets in the garden. Birds roam freely and can often be coaxed down by the visitors for treats or affection. Beyond the restaurant, two larges wings are being constructed. Each wing houses both rooms and large guest suites which cater to the individual needs of the visitors. Further adding to the luxury are fifteen individual cabanas that can be hired out short or long term. Each Cabana is themed differently, and those themes change frequently based on the whim of the staff and the events of the Kingdom.

A large pool rests out behind the Resort, which has a dual purpose for summer swimming and winter ice skating. Pathways lead off to various themed ponds in all directions, inviting visitors to walk or stroll at their leisure enjoying the groomed garden feeling of the place. Flamingos and swans roam, while ducks and geese play in another area. Koi can be seen swimming, while fountains gurgle and gazebos and ornate benches offer places of respite.

In the northern section of the Resort, two large buildings dominate the northwest and northeast corners respectively. The building to the west is a large fully completed aviary that houses all the exotic birds of the Resort, its breeding program, and its resident birdkeeper. Affectionately known as 'M'Caiyha's Nest', the Aviary is one of the main reasons the Crystal Gardens is so unique. The second building to the east, with a matching exterior, functions as a far more mundane structure. It houses the stables, providing both guest stabling and rental animals for long treks into the city, jungle, or rides along the beaches.

Surrounding the entire Resort, linking to all the rest of the meandering pathways, is a straight path that follows the fence. It provides visitors with a jogging pathway or place to walk and stretch their legs after a long day of being pampered within Euphoria Spa, which is also located within the resort complex.

[multipage=The Map of the Resort]

[multipage=The Reception Foyer]

When guests arrive at the front gates of The Crystal Gardens, the first thing they will see is an enormous wrought iron gate set across a pathway of marble tiles that branches off shortly past the entrance. A stables rests off to the left while an enormous aviary rests to the right. In front, the grandiose Resort dominates the skyline, sweeping its elegant lines upwards and giving its guests a sneak peak at the wilds within through enormous glass windows.

Servants will of course meet guests to deal with luggage, horses, and coaches.

The front walkway to the entrance to the Crystal Gardens gives the visitor a taste of what is to come. Stepping through the archway, rich in foliage, the sight that greets the visitor is one of tranquility and beauty. The long walkway starts with a tinkling fountain which the visitor passes leading them to a long pool, filled with fish of varying shapes and sizes, colors and breeds all swimming together in the warm water. Due to the nature of the water and its ambient temperature being maintained, many of these fish were tropical and so unusual to see.

The long walkway was split into three sections, leading to the entrance cloister. Two giant iron horses rearing and frolicking in the front greets the visitors with silent neighs of welcome. Each of the three section are of the same in its basic format, in that there are a narrow pool in the center, flowers and bushes alongside it and a pathway either side, with tall trees forming a fence at the far edges. The first of the three sections is filled with flowers and bushes which gave off wonderful fragrances and all of which had flowers were in the spectrum of red. From deep mauve to pale rose pink the flowers were here, and at the right time of year the display was absolutely breathtaking. The second section held flowers which bloom with yellow, again ranging in shade and the final section was filled with white flowers, all breathtakingly beautiful and scented.

Upon walking along this front walk, the visitor finds themselves in the central cloistered square. The end of the front walk houses a tall archway made of entwined twigs and flowers, leading into a small cloistered area. In this area there is a central fountain, the water trickling and tinkling and glittering in the light. There are lots of gleaming coins in here, as apparently it is a place to drop a coin and make a wish. That done, if the visitor so wished, they saw that the cloister gave them three choices of direction. One, to the left, was marked with a "staff only" sign. To the right was another pathway, but the one marked "Reception" was directly in front of them. The reception desk, a huge lumbering stone structure, perfectly frames the foyer and gives the visitor a full impact of the glass jungle beyond. Already bird cries can be heard, as well as the chirping of finches, and the rustling of trees. A friendly receptionist calls out a “Serale, Welcome to the Crystal Gardens! How can we help you today?” His tone is rich and cheerful. The reception desk itself is flanked by two enormous cathedral geodes, which rise up glittering in the Demiosian light. If a guests looks closely, these breathtaking stone structures are scattered throughout the resort to add a rich elegance to the place and give it its characteristic name.

On either side of the reception desk is an area that is quiet save the trickling of the fountain and had benches dotted around the central area and lining both duck and swan ponds on either side, allowing the visitor to take advantage of the covered over seats and to sit and watch the beauty around them. Tall statues hidden in alcoves are the order of the brightening here and the flowers that grow here were scented stock, giving off wonderful scents but with small flowers which did not distract from the general feel of the place.

[multipage=The Restaurant]

Truly the centerpiece of the Botanical Resort, The Crystal Garden’s Restaurant, dominates the main floor of the resort, taking up most of its usable space with its glassed in elegance. The main ‘great room’ is an enormous structure that has been designed as a giant greenhouse and orangery all wrapped into one. Live trees grow up through the center of the dirt floor, dominating the canopy for several stories and providing growing surfaces for exotic flowering vines and other greenery. Birds and butterflies fill the area, providing pollination and a visual canvas for true diners to come experience the uniqueness of having a long elegant meal within the confines of a tamed jungle.

Once visitors pass through the foyer, beyond the reception, an through the double glass doors designed to keep the birds within, they find themselves walking into a tame indoor jungle of profound beauty. While a mixed group of people designed the place, a touch of elven elegance exists here and there in the artful display of trees, rocks, crystal geodes, and artificial ponds and waterways that crisscross the inner sanctum of the building. This is definitely the heart of the place. Pathways lead off to the right and left, obviously going towards the East and West Wings. Small elegant signs point directions. A Sweet Shop can be found following a pathway to the left, while a gift shop lies to the east. A Spa is found eastwards, while the kitchens are westwards. The most important pathway though, is the one leading into the jungle itself. Made of meandering pavers, the pathway has wide spots and vantages that house little artfully crafted benches and resting spots. Parrots roam freely, and guests shouldn’t be surprised to find one perched upon their shoulders before they even find a seat.

Seating is hard to find on purpose. The Crystal Gardens like to give its visitors the illusion of privacy. Tables are hidden off in the foliage, some crafted of wood, some of stone where they lurk in the lush emerald shadows. There aren’t as many seats as one might think. Each table, save a very special group table near the heart of the complex, houses six seats comfortably. There are enough tables for each cabana to have seating, and about twenty more guests besides. Each table is graced with a different stone statue, some mermaids, some dragons, some even of warriors mounted. These statues help the waiters and hostess determine the location of guests and which dishes are served where.

Meals come with baskets of bread and fruit, much of which is meant to feed not only the guests, but the birds that can often be coaxed down to visit the intrigued patrons. The resident birdkeeper takes it upon herself to watch her flock and make sure hunger is never a factor, so guests who manage to coax down a bird normally do so on the merits of their own character and charisma rather than on the birds need for food. That way both the guest and the birds safety can be assured.

Food is served in a number of courses, most of which are named after the traditional Aelyrian dishes they reflect. The menu changes monthly and the Crystal Garden Chef’s can always be counted on to provide some of the best most elegant layered tastes anywhere. In fact the chefs often circulate when they are not busy in the kitchen, visiting with the patrons, exchanging pleasantries and local gossip or discussing the food.

Visitors are invited to linger. Meals are never hurried as the whole aura of the resort has been designed around providing peace and relaxation to those that choose to visit it. Circulating musicians often find themselves secluded benches and stools purposely placed about the thick foliage to spend time absently harping or mutedly playing love songs and ballads of joy for those visiting the Resort in celebration. They tend to dress in green and blend in, unobtrusively providing their entertainment.

[multipage=The Kitchen]

Hidden well behind the main dining hall and small sweets shoppe is the kitchen, a discreet swinging wooden door separating it from the entirety of the resort. A hustle of movement and sounds of clinking glass and steel can be heard faintly from within. Inside it can only be presumed cooks and chefs are scrambling about to get food prepared and done to be served to hungry guests. With a single flap of the wooden door out come waiters with trays full of plates granting a small peek into the madness that lies inside.

White tile conducive to kitchen safety adorns the floor and the walls are painted a whitest white. Just looking at these two provide the feel of a remarkably sanitary room. Delicious aromas cling to the air, and entering is a meal eater's paradise. Wooden shelves hang from nearly every wall apart from the farthest one. Ingredients of all sorts are stored on these, giving off the appearance of a smaller version of a market. Lights shine down on the wooden surfaces used for preparing the food.

Rows of countertops extending the width of the kitchen start immediately, a small tiny sink sitting on each alternating end. These are used to wash vegetables or letting meat defrost, depending on the what the work station is used for. Overhead are innumerable pots and pans hung from white painted metal bars. Sizzling sounds are aplenty, oil burning from the heat of the stoves.

There are two large stoves, one on the left wall, the other on the right. A wide variety of meals are forever being cooked be it for the main restaurant or ordered room service. Here the cooks are in charge of stirring and ensuring nothing goes burnt while the chefs mostly do the food preparation (as well as adding any final touches to plates before they leave the kitchen). There is one large oven, off to left corner, in the space somewhat directly behind the wall of the main reception desk. This is not as oft-used, but the gift shop baked goods are prepared here early every brightening as to-go snacks by the manager.

On the very far wall, the furthest away from the entrance, and almost hidden behind the busy mess is the large sink, constantly full of dishes, pots, pans, utensils, and the like. Dishwashers are hard at work soaking, scrubbing, and drying dishes keeping up with the strong demand for plateware at the resort.

[multipage=The Aviary]

The aviary is a long, one-storey building that gives the appearance of a reinforced greenhouse to those who don’t know what is inside of it. The foliage and flashes of color on the inside, as well as the great number of windows and skylights help contribute to this impression. There are not so many windows that they cannot be boarded up quickly in the event of a sudden storm, but there are enough to give the building an airy, open feel.

There are two doors at either end of the aviary, facing east and west. The east-end entrance opens into the aviary itself. There is a walkway of simple white tiles that runs between the two rows of flights, and goes around the big squat tree in the middle. It is lined with flowers, leafy plants and vines. There are numbers of driftwood benches and perches all around as well. Swings of wood and rope dangle overhead as well.

Dangling from the tree, benches, and perches were vines and ropes – that seemed to be both of the softer cotton persuasion and something rougher, like sisal. The ropes were plain or brightly dyed – and suspended from some of these were a multitude of things that could only be described as ‘toys’… if only through some rough approximation. These toys include chunks of wood in different shapes and sizes and colors, pieces of coconut shells and tightly braided fronds, thick braids of brightly-colored rope. Careful inspection might also allow a guest to see the occasional cowbell.

There are big, shiny bowls along the walkway, often in carved wooden stands that are firmly anchored into place. These bowls hold things like water, some weird sort of meal, mixed nuts, and a variety of fresh food – fruits, vegetables, pasta, rice, beans and lentils, and so on and so forth. A few special ones even seem to have some sort of gruel.

Each flight is separated via fencing and the sizes of each flight change according to the types of birds inhabiting it. Each has its own logs and branches and potted plants. There are also own suspended toys, and food and water dishes. Each flight has a nest box firmly attached to the back wall. Each flight can be opened through a gate from the front of the flight facing the walkway, and are latched shut otherwise.

Near the western end of the aviary is a country with a two basins and a faucet for water. There are few cupboards under the countertop, basically to store clean, lightweight steel dishes and a few supplies. Beyond the counter is a fountain with a shallow, elevated pond.

The western entrance opens up to what one might think is a storeroom. Inside, however, it appears to be a simple bedroom. It is sparsely furnished, sporting only a closet, bed, and a dresser. A few bound books – ledgers and genealogy books, primarily, are on a shelf above the dresser. Another door to the side of that room opens to the aviary, and a third leads to the basement.

The basement is essentially one big storeroom. It is dark and quite cool with torches along the walls that can be lit. At one end, closest to the stairs, are additional supplies. These include rope, nest boxes, toys, food, and emergency supplies – cages, barrels of waters, flight leashes, and so on. At the other end is a shallow pool for the flamingos, ducks, and swans in case of an emergency. In the frozen winter months, the basement serves as a hothouse for the flamingos.

Secrets :
The Birds:

Every day, M’caiyha feeds and waters the birds in the morning, and by late morning, she transports the denizens of the aviary into the main botanical garden and restaurant using a combination of forked perches and flight leashes. In the evening, she collects and returns them to the aviary. The current inhabitants of the aviary are as follows:

Toco Toucans: Sana and Sano
These big black birds are a mated pair. They have massive beaks and bright blue-lined eyes. Their chests are bibbed with brilliant white feathers.

Keelbilled Toucans: Ther and Shaesia
These toucans are also black, but have a yellow bib as opposed to the white ones of the tocos. They are smaller, too, and the beaks have a different coloration. Ther and Shaesia are mates.

Blue and Gold Macaws: Aelor and Jhyli
These large macaws get their name from their brilliant blue and yellow plumage. They have big black beaks with white facial patches, outlined with black ‘etchings’ of feathers. Their long tails help with balance. They are a mated pair.

Scarlet Macaws: Taes and Belai

Bigger than the blue and gold macaws, the scarlet macaws are also named for their feathers. They are predominately a rich red with bands of yellow, green, and blue on their wings. Taes and Belai are mates.

Great Green Macaws: Moro and Vaera

Some might say that these large macaws lack the ‘flashy’ feathering of the blue and golds and the scarlets, but their colors are quite striking nonetheless. Mostly solid green with red feathers atop their beak, but their facial patches seem prone to blushing a dusky pink. Mated pair.

Sun Conures: Nalymn and Peao
These little birds are the smallest birds in the aviary. They have piercing, high-pitched voices that can be painful for those listening if they start to
scream. Nalymn and his mate, Peao are amazing acrobats, and enjoy playing with the branches, each other, and the other birds.

Dusky Loris: Shes and Thosi
These little birds don’t have the eye-catching color of the rest of them, but M’caiyha likes them anyway. She’d say that they have the understated brilliance of a pearl, and if you look at their feathers just right, who cares
that they’re brown, black, and orange? Shes and Thosi are mates.

Moluccan Cockatoos: Moji and Eilaes
These big birds are a pale pink. Pink! They have mobile crests that they can use for displays, and are often a key indicator of the birds’ emotions. The underside of the crest, however, is a much richer color. Eilaes is a deeper pink than her mate, Moji.

Triton Cockatoos: Maestaes and Solstice
Smaller than the Moluccans and bigger than the Leadbeaters, these birds
are all white with lemon-yellow crests. Unlike the Moluccans, Maestaes and Solstice’s crests are much more ‘pointy’, and hardly ever lie completely flat against their heads.

Leadbeater’s Cockatoos: Grenn and Kali
These rare birds are a sight to see. The smallest of the Crystal Gardens’ cockatoos, these birds sport vivid pink breasts and stomachs, and white wings. Their crests are different from those of the Moluccans and the
Tritons, and are banded as follows: red, yellow, red again, and the tips are white. They don’t seem to be too friendly, and prefer to stay at a distance.

M’caiyha’s: Ethgri and Aira
While not technically birds belonging to the Crystal Gardens, they belong to the resident bird handler and caregiver. Ethgri is a massive blue hyacinth macaw with a penchant for making people scream as loud as he can. Aira, a rainbow lorikeet, is a bit friendlier and one of the most colorful birds most people have ever seen. They are sometimes in the main garden and restaurant with the other birds, but more often than not can be found accompanying M’caiyha as she goes about her business.

[multipage=Euphoria Spa]

There is something magical about a spa that’s truly designed for the pampering and pleasure of its guests. And indeed The Crystal Garden’s Euphoria Spa has reached the pinnacle of success in this department. Every line of every room is designed to sooth and comfort the frazzled, worn, or otherwise infirm. From its soft lines to its muted tones that are both rich and soothing, The Euphoria Spa creates a haven inside a haven for all to enjoy.

Each visitor is greeted by Zanas Avias, a lovely Kemite woman of exquisite beauty. Rumor has it she was a former Keme’Dral that moved to Demios when her patron offered her marriage and the privilege to accompany him to Demios where he was conducting business. They eventually settled, though Lars was slain in the Mer War, leaving Zanas a widow. When she heard of the Crystal Gardens opening, she felt it was a good fit for her employment. Rumor has it that Zanas has one of the only breeding pair in captivity of rare Demosian Moonglow Toucans and thought she’d fit right in with the work force of the Resort. One of her two toucans, Wind and Rain, always accompanies her in her work, amusing the guests or offering sweet whistles in relaxing tones. Moonglow Toucans are extraordinary crested white birds, of medium build and long tails, who have the most extraordinary talent of changing their plumage to fit their surroundings much in the same way a chameleon would. Hence, Wind and Rain always seem to be shaded in deep pinks and rich creams, with the occasional black or white accent, that make up the Euphoria interior. Their large opalescent beaks remain pure white, reflecting the Moon’s Glow giving them their name.

Since Euphoria was conceived, Zanas has been in constant consultation over its design and construction. Her husband, a Darui’Torek warrior who was forced to retire due to the loss of a limb, has given her an amazing insight on both what women and men need in order to relax. Hence The Euphoria Spa is designed to sooth and comfort both sexes. When one walks in, the large reception foyer awaits. Theres a set of large black wicker furniture surrounding a lovely indoor stone brazier that is normally burning special alchemical salts and volcanic rocks prepared by Garit Sevenstars, the resident barkeeper and alchemist, which produces a smokeless odorless rainbow fire to set the mood.

Though present, the reception room is designed to not keep people waiting. Double doors lead to a large hallway that divides the spa portion of the resort into two sections. One section is painted a lovely deep mauve and designed with the gossamer candle-lit fabrics and textures that keep female comfort in mind. The second section of the spa is done in soothing buttercreams and blacks, all designed to comfort the men. Each section can be utilized separately or both can be enjoyed since the spa can be leased out for whole days by private parties.

Past the double doors on either side of the hallway are two very large changing rooms. These rooms offer relaxing couches, small closets to hang up ones clothing, and a wide assortment of towels and robes. There are also fancy piped in showers that allow folks who’ve just partook of mudbaths or wraps to cleanse their forms. The females enjoy the changing room on the right, while the males enjoy the one on the left. Both are suitably decorated. The ladies enjoy profiles of nude males, some fighting, some riding, some lounging, done in kemite style as giant portraits upon the walls. The males enjoy similar motifs of females for their décor.

The women’s section is designed exclusively with the theme of roses in mind. Soft flowers decorate the whole of the spa, available year round due to the Crystal Garden’s unique hothouse atmosphere. Orchids line the walls, some hand painted in the kemite style, while others grow wild in gilded pots designed to blend into the atmosphere. Beauty infuses everything as people pass down the hall. The hall is where the two colors weave together and form an infusion of both male and female energies that sooths and welcomes both at the same time.

Down the hallway, the spa divides into two different sections separate from one another. Each section opens up into the massage area that then follows into a bathing area. Tables are scattered artfully in sections so that more than one woman can enjoy a massage at once. Mothers and daughters often come here together to take their relaxation, while brothers in arms often do the same, lounging in the baths and talking sedately while their tight muscles are being worked into a more stable state of existence. Once past the massage area, each identical mirrored wing of the spa opens up into a series of individual baths that can be set up for all sorts of things, including mud, wraps, and all sorts of oils.

Both sections are as different as night and day. The woman’s side is light and airy, ethereal and beautiful in its existence, while the men’s section has heavy tile and bold patterning on the wall that leads. Artwork graces the wall of each, though the themes vary widely. The pale translucent beauty of flowers and unicorns dominate the feminine domain while dragons and framed swords straight out of legend make of the décor of the manly side. Vases are not uncommon, and candles are lit in a profusion surrounding those being worked on and treated for their various stiffnesses and injuries.

From the bathing sections, thick panes of glass doors side open to reveal a large porch that overlooks the resorts back gardens and cabanas. It is here where the beautician does her work, trimming hair and doing makeup in the natural light of Demios’ suns. Guests can opt for their massages to be out on this back deck in the summer, where a whole cohort of activities can be arranged. Customers are encouraged to bring a novel to read while they enjoy their foot soaks and pedicures. There are also large pads for meditation available here. Many have claimed that the Crystal Garden’s Spa Porch offers a very unique meditative experience. It is also here that patrons can access the pool after spending time in the hot sauna.

Probably the most famous and popular addition to the spa is the saltpine sauna that’s at Euphoria’s very heart. Made of rare Demios saltpine, the smooth curved lines of wood that make up the sauna appeal to both males and females in ways rarely put to words. The sauna is open to either sex and can be leased for private time for couples or partners, or even family groups. It’s set on the very edge of the patio so that it has both access to the pool and access to the inside of the spa. A large stone basin filled with heated volcanic rocks provides the heat the patrons need to pour water over to create the seam. Long elegant lines encircle the facility, providing two tiers of seats that guests can either sit upon or lay upon while they are relaxing in the steam.

Numerous services are available in either individual pricing or package deals. There are always plenty of drinks available free of charge for folks using the spa.

[multipage=The Oasis Bar]

In a corner near the pool, the large octagonal outdoor bar stands sentinel over the resort’s relaxing guests. The bar itself is constructed of honey-colored arbutus wood, polished to a high natural gloss and protected from the elements with a clear oil stain.

The Roof of the bar is raised high above the counter so that even giants might approach the bar conveniently, and it extends a good two yards past the edge of the bar proper, providing shelter for patrons who require it. Each triangular panel of the octagonal roof contains a large stained glass fresco of exotic birds in a jungle background, which cast a spectacular display of light as the sunshine filters through it. The roof is surmounted by an ornamental weathervane shaped like a peacock. In the winter, this weathervane can be removed and a pole inserted, so that the bar can become the central pole in a large tent to provided shelter for off-season guests in times of harsh weather. A copper chain decorated with links shaped like birds guides water from the roof to a drain in the patio when it rains.

The center of the bar is occupied by shelves on which bottles are arranged in a neat and attractive pattern before a decorative mirror. Above the mirror, a slate blackboard gives the price of drinks, as well as other information that might be relevant for the day.

Drinks are cheerfully served by Garit Sevenstars and his friendly staff, who are notable for the personal but non-intrusive attention they give their patrons. All staff members are trained to have a good working knowledge of the spa, city and island so that they are able to advise visitors on the most profitable uses of their time.

On some evenings, a portable dais is installed next to the bar so that performers might entertain the guests with the soft music of guitar, lute, or other soothing instrument. Occasional amateur nights are held for the adventurous.

[multipage=The Pool]

Perhaps the grandest sight to see at The Crystal Gardens lies further into the jungle of the resort, behind the bar, behind the patio; the shimmering turquoise pool captures the essence of the popular getaway. Surrounded almost entirely by foliage, the stone walkways around the pool reflect the green of the plants. Butterflies flutter from flower to flower, and hummingbirds dance a quick step at incredible speeds. The overwhelming scenery washes waves of serenity over the guests.

Wide steps lead into the pleasantly warm water where children can be seen splashing about merrily on the shallower end, their laughter echoing throughout. Older persons, with swim suits of bright oranges and yellows tan consistently on the wicker chaise lounge chairs off to the side, some with towels over their faces for protection from the rays of the suns. For those with more crown to spend, gazebos are available for rent at the back where permanent shade - and privacy - are guaranteed.

In the center of the oddly-shaped pool stands a platform slightly above the height of the water with pebbles, wild flowers, and tall green plants. In the center a small fountain shaped like a waterfall cascades down a constant supply of water into the pool. This marks the end of the shallow water and leads into the much deeper depths, from 5 to 8 feet down. It is recommended only higher-skilled swimmers roam these depths.

Attractive pool boys walk the lengths of the pool, passing and collecting towels from guests, as well as standing by in case of emergencies. To this brightening no guest has drowned under their careful supervision, though rumor has it some have feigned drowning to receive resuscitation. Nothing can be confirmed, however.

In a corner just before entering the pool stands a sign with bold black letters that reads:

Pool Rules

No Running in Pool Area!
No Nude Sunbathing!
No Pets Allowed in Water!
No Pool Use Under Influence of Alcohol!
No Food or Drinks Allowed in Pool!
No Children Swimming Alone w/o Adult Supervision!
No Diving under any circumstance!
No Skinny Dipping!

In the winter, the entirety of the water is frozen over for ice-skating, and the waterfall non-functional. Cabanas are still available for rent, but lounge chairs are taken into storage. But be not mistaken, the rink holds its own seasonal decorations.

Ice-skating at darkening is particularly popular, and there is an almost romantic ambiance to the place. Braziers are put out burning rock salts that emit blue, purple, and green hues of light. Some of the more talented pool employees remain during the season to play instruments. Melodious harps and violins can be heard in the background singing a soft dreamy tune, underneath the constant sound of joyous laughter. Fireflies scattered amongst the wilderness occasionally twinkle a bright orange, a light show mimicking the rhythm of the music. The sound of the skates gliding on ice is the most prominent of all sounds, a slight swoosh breaking the very air. Snowflakes fall down playfully and melt into hats and scarves as people haste on by.

The price list for any of the items available for use, or purchase may be requested from any employee, but it is as follows:

Towels - FREE (for use only)
Straw Hats - 4
Pool Floats - 8
Sandals - 5
Cabana - Rental Fee: 15/brightening

The Cabanas
~200 a cycle

Throughout the grounds of the Crystal Gardens Resort are fifteen guest cabanas. These are rented to guests on a first-come, first-serve, unless reservations are made in advance, although the reservations require a deposit.

For the most part, the cabanas are quite similar, especially on the outside, but have differences in their décor and personality. There are three main themes used by the staff in decorating the cabanas, and these are prone to rotations. The three main themes are the elements, natural wonders, and the seasons. There are also two cabanas specifically for honeymoons and romantic getaways.

The name of each cabana is carved, or, rather, burnt, onto a driftwood plank outside the lodging.

Secrets :
The Elements

Earth
The furniture is a range of browns, from light to dark. The walls, however, are ivory in hue. There are rich green rugs on the floor. This cabana has more plants than most of the others. The incense and plants are specially picked to give an earthy, homey feeling.

Fire
Vibrant and resplendent in patterns of red, orange and gold is fire. From the furniture to the walls to the brightly-colored flowers and smoky, aromatic incense, this cabana is warm and steamy with all the passion that comes with the element for which it is named.

Water
This cabana is in blues and whites, with patterns of swimming fish along the walls. Tiny little candles float in clear bowls of colored water, giving an ethereal glow and highlighting the very fluidity of the element. The atmosphere is very relaxed and peaceful.

Air
Ranging in colors from slate grey to white, this cabana aims to depict air. Primarily an off-white color, it is decorated with darker patterns indicating the wind currents, from a gentle gusting breeze to a howling storm. Touches of blue accentuate the greys, and the furniture is white and grey.

Natural Wonders

Volcanoes
The cabana has a rougher texture to the walls, almost like carved rock. Smoky incense rises from a model of a volcano on a shelf, and the room is bathed in browns, reds, and oranges. The cabana is warm but feels secure and somewhat isolated.

Rainforest
Lush and exotic, in many ways exaggerating the theme of the Gardens itself is the Rainforest cabana. It is filled with plenty of green potted plants and trees, with motifs of tropical butterflies and birds on the walls. The furniture varies between brown and green.

Waterfall
Painted in light blues, grey, white, and slate, the Waterfall cabana has a miniature in scale on a table in the form of a fountain. There are a number of bowls of rocks that have been washed smooth by the tides in water. Many of these rocks are different shades and some have very interesting patterns on them. On the wall is a painted mural of a waterfall, and the bedroom in this cabana is a little darker, and behind a blue curtain. Hinting, of course, at the little room behind the heavy curtain of water that exist behind some waterfalls.

Seaside
The seaside cabana is decorated to remind the guest of the sea. There are shells in glass bowls upon shelves and tables, and scenes painted of a blue sky, water. There are driftwood carvings of various sea life forms, from crabs to fish to whales. Between the driftwood and the shells, the cabana smells very much like the rich aromas one found on a beach.

Crystal Cave
Somewhat darker than the other cabanas, the Crystal Cave has chunks of colored glass, ‘crystals’ coming out of the walls, ceiling, floor, and mantle. These catch the light from candles and fires and other sources and cast amazing, resplendent reflections and hues upon the walls. To offset the darkness, the furniture is quite light in tone, and the ‘crystals’ tend to help light up the room.

Seasons

Spring
The Spring cabana’s furniture and décor is toned in pastels with some white to represent the fading snow and new life. There are a number of budding flowers (which are often moved afterwards to the Summer cabana) about the structure, all meant to convey the new life that comes with spring.

Summer
Vibrant blues, greens, and other colors denote Summer. Orange and yellow denote the sun and the accompanying warmth that comes with the season. The furniture is light and relatively simple. The flowers are in full bloom, and the large windows allow for the sun to come through.

Autumn
The Autumn cabana is a striking mixture of oranges, reds, golds, and browns, striking and contrasting each other, yet without being unpleasantly so. On the walls are a pattern of falling leaves in an array of colors. There are arrangements of dried leaves and flowers in vases, and the incense hints at the traditional ideas of fall cooking, cinnamon and other spices.

Winter
Whites, greys, and light blues highlight the Winter cabana. Some white flowers rest in glazed vases. Glass “icicles” are suspended from the underside of shelves and the mantle. On the walls are a pattern of snowflakes trickling down from the blue and white skies. Suspended from the ceiling are a number of blown-glass snowflakes, designed to catch the light off of the candles in the room.

Honeymoon/Romantic

These two cabanas are quite tropical in theme, with lush flowers (particularly roses in a variety of colors) and plants, sweet-smelling incense, and a definite sense of privacy and isolation. Little candles float in glass bowls of colored water, and facing a window, a statue of a couple sitting side by side, holding hands, watches the sunrise and sunsets.

The Floorplans

oocBoth wings containing the Suites won’t be completed until Summer XV

The Suites
~ 30 a darkening for single
~40 a darkening for double occupancy
Small Guest Room
~15 a darkening

There are two types of rooms available at the Crystal Gardens. There are ten elaborate resort suites that are mini apartments located in both the north and south wing. These suites are set up as either single or double occupancy rooms that are both spacious and elaborately decorated. They have their own small private patio area that has a cover that can be removed. Each patio is filled with a fire pit and elaborate couches for relaxation or meditation. Double occupancy rooms have two large queen-sized beds and can sleep up to four comfortably. Single rooms have king sized beds and can sleep two comfortably. Each contains a hearth, sitting area, eating area, closet space, kitchenettes, and plenty of elaborate furniture.

Then there are smaller rooms numbering six total. These facilities are almost exclusively rented out to workers or guests in need of a place to stay. They are elaborate little places, but not spacious enough to really be ‘guest quality’ opulent suites. There are enough full-time workers that filter in and out of these rooms to keep them mostly full, though if a traveler wished to rent one that was free, the resort would not be against such a plan, especially if enjoying the resort meant living cheaply there for the short term.

[multipage=The Outdoor Features]

Flamingo Pond
Accessible only by two elevated walkways, near the aviary, is the flamingo pond. It is a long, low pond surrounded by trees and brightly-colored foliage. The pond is nicely by trees with long, reaching branches, lending shade, cover, and refuge. It sports a rather muddy ‘island’ in the middle. The island has its own tree and shrubbery. The island serves two purposes: one, for nesting; two, should a guest leave the walkway and venture too close, the birds have some refuge in the murky-looking water that offers no hints of how deep it is. A few signs on the walkways ask visitors not to leave the walkways for their own safety.

The flamingos of the Crystal Gardens seem to change colors from season to season. They are white in the winter, a pale pink in the spring, deepen to red in the summer, and turn almost reddish-orange in the fall, and molt to white again for winter.

Swan Pond
Surrounded by cabanas and walkways is the resort’s swan pond. It is home to the beautiful white swans that glide over the broad surface of the water. While it lacks as many trees as the other ponds, most of the pond is edged with leafy bushes and reeds. The broad surface is occasionally interrupted by some bars throughout the pond. These bars are covered with thick grasses, reeds, and cattails, suitable for resting and in some cases nesting, places.

Duck Pond
Located near the stables and heavily shaded with a large, log-lined ‘island’ is the duck pond. It also has arches made out of logs breaking through the surface in a few areas. Some of them seem fixed, but a few occasionally float, like rafts. This pond is home not only to the resort’s ducks, but to a few geese as well.

The ducks at the pond are quite colorful, ranging from tan to brown and green to white. The geese really stand out, from their coloring and sheer bulk, and suggest that they do not tolerance nonsense.

Koi Pond
The koi pond is rock-rimmed rock and filled with brilliantly colored fish. The white, red, yellow, orange, and black fish sparkle when the sun hits the pond. Broad rock ledges allow guests to have a look a closer look at the fish. There are clusters of lily pads in patches near the surface, as are some other long, broad-leafed plants. Clusters of grasses occasionally rise out above the water.

The Gazebo
Off of the main patio and outdoor eating area is the gazebo. Nestled in on three sides by trees and shrubbery, the rustic shelter offers some measure of privacy and shade. It is large enough to hold several guests comfortably. It is made out of wood with a wooden and heather roof. The trees around it give it plenty of additional coverage. It is furnished with a number of comfortable wooden chairs and tables under it. It is a wonderful place in the shade to sit back, relax, and observe those around you without necessarily missing any of the action on the main patio.

[multipage=The Ballroom]

oocThe Ballroom will be completed at the end of Spring XV

The Ballroom at the Crystal Gardens was in keeping with the rest of the resort and its close connection with nature and the jungle specifically. The room itself was, in fact, a large square room with whitewashed stone walls right the way around. These whitewashed walls reflected the light that poured in from the large windows. The floor in here was of the same sort of highly polished wood which was the floor of the main reception.

The far outside wall, however, was not the whitewashed stone but consisted almost entirely of wooden doors. The floor-to-ceiling height of the doors meant that the large wooden panels were easily folded back, in to a concertina affair which opened up the entire wall to the outside.

Should the guest wish it, that would be where the ballroom ended, however, for the larger affair there was the option of the large awning which could be attached. This was a large wooden frame, octagonal in shape, which attached to the far wall, so that if needed the doors would concertina back and the room would almost double in size.

In fair weather, the doors could be opened, the sides of the marquee-like awning pulled back and tables and chairs placed in the outdoors. Should the weather be less temperate, there were shutters on all the windows and the canvas sides to the awning were very sturdy indeed, attaching to a low stone wall which ran the length of the awnings wooden frame.

The walls were clear of decoration in here, but there were lots of hooks and other appendages where lanterns and other decorations could be hung, allowing the ballroom to be decorated according to the wishes of the guests who had hired it.

At night, the ballroom can be changed into a delightful display of color via votives and fabric panels that can be hung in any shape or size. The Crystal Gardens staff keeps enough tables and chairs stored away in basements to fill the entire ballroom, or at least part of it, in the event people want to hold enormous weddings or feasts to celebrate birthbrightenings, anniversaries, and other holidays.

[multipage=The Stables]

oocTo be completed Summer XV - horses and ponies will be purchased at that time.

Set in the northeast corner of the property, a stone structure rises up out of the jungle. It's purpose is evident, for graceful arches outline the wide openings of stalls. Thirty, fifteen per side, grace the building, though not all are in use. Ten resident horses and ponies fill the stalls and each enjoys the luxury of having a double wide living space. They are for the use of guests to take either into town or down to the beach on long rides. These fifteen stalls can be condensed so that double the capacity can be fitted in when the Resort is full, especially during the summer season. A wide awning covers a wagon and cart storage that is sometimes in use when the owner has her equipment stored at the resort rather than at her own home.

[multipage=Sweet Indulgences]

In the small corner before the hallway to the guest suites stands a quaint sweets shop, seasonal flowers blooming and lined up against the glass walls. Instead of a door shiny pink and green beads cover the doorway and chime together upon entrance. A petite short girl with black hair smiles and waves politely to all those entering the shop. "Serale! Welcome to the Crystal Gardens Pastries!" The elf, a young girl named Lucy, stands behind the tall countertop, usually with a pencil and sketchbook in hand. She doesn't say much unless spoken to, but she's rather friendly and knows how to charm a sell out of most customers. A vase with fresh cut flowers stands as decor near the register, and provide an added girlish feel as if the desserts did not suffice.

The glass countertop contains bags of baked cookies, all nicely wrapped up with colored string made into bows. Inside are also cakes small and large, circular and square, made fresh every brightening by the owner of the shop, Adelyn Weiss. Requests for birthbrightening cakes are also taken. More rarely and depending on the fruit availability of the season fruit tarts can be purchased, too.

The prices to most items, unless a special request is made, are listed on a decorated piece of parchment, which lays flat by the low countertop where Lucy waits to take your order.

[multipage=The Crystal Mezzanine]

The Crystal Gardens Staff has the unique position of enjoying a lofty area overlooking the main restaurant gardens for their office space. The offices aren’t closed little niches, but rather the mezzanine stretches around the interior creating a narrow long area open to the jungle feel from below. A series of ‘areas’ exist from the point of a flowing stairway off the main lobby rising up to mate with the second floor. The first area consists of a long table surrounded by twelve chairs. It creates a meeting area for the staff. While not large enough to seat everyone, it is large enough to hold meetings or conferences that deal with the day to day operation of the resort. While rather plain, the meeting area is more function than form. It’s only later along the mezzanine that peoples’ tastes really shine through.

Further down the encircling mezzanine lies an area for the Resort Manager’s Office. Tastefully done in deep violets and purples, Adelyn’s Office consists of a desk, rather large bookcase and a group of file cabinets all made of the same pale ivory wood. She has two rather elegant live palms flanking her workspace, potted in colorful blue-violet tinted terra cotta glazed patina pots. A warm throw rug softens the hard floor of the mezzanine; giving a welcoming feel to the space Adelyn calls her own. Flowers made all of jade, cut in the lovely deep purple, green, and blue found around Lauryl gives Adelyn’s place its own sense of style in the form of a large bouquet that graces her desk space. Adelyn’s desk is far larger than anyone else’s, as she uses it for both a desk and planning table when she is laying out new recipes, plotting new additions for Sweet Inspirations, or contemplating applications for new hires or problems with suppliers. Adelyn fills a lot of niches in the Crystal Gardens, and her space certainly reflects this. Without a doubt, Adelyn has the best view of the restaurant’s main space, and as a result has the most visits by the resorts numerous feathered denizens.

Circling on around, another small area opens up providing an office for The Oasis’ manager, Garit Sevenstars. Done in elegant blues and silver, Garits area is namely for storing the records from the bar, keeping track of suppliers, billing, and payroll. Rather than palms, like Adelyn’s area supports, Garit has a large shelf that takes advantage of the sunlight that streams in from all directions through the glass of the Crystal Gardens. Upon strong metal shelves, he’s collected miniature fruit trees that are often flowering in the optimum conditions of the Orangery. The shelf holds oranges, lemons, limes, mangos, a small sweet variety of apple, pear, and a miniature cherry tree that has somewhat taken over one corner. There’s also, higher up, a collection of elegant glassware that Garit has brought in from his travels and visits to other famous bars throughout the empire. An elegant watering can, one very Air’riela in nature and obviously crafted by Hay’aan rests on one shelf depicting The Fire Isles themselves, a handy gift when it comes to watering his precious miniature tree collection. Garit’s lighting is a simple chandelier hung with a quirky assortment of glass cut into the semblance of bar garnishments, obviously designed by Viskyia, who’s constantly seeking new and challenging chandelier designs.

On around, further into the Mezzanine, lies Hay’aan’s planning area. It rather looks like a rainbow exploded in that small section. One can tell the girl is somewhat of a collector, gathering things that inspire her for themed parties later in the season. An enormous free-standing ‘planning’ board rests up against the wall next to her desk, which is ironically made of a purple heart wood that matches the chair and wood of the board. The board is fabric in the center of the frame, allowing Hay’aan to pin things to it. Matched with the elegant almost dark red wood is pale silk fabric covering the chairs and screening part of the glass windows so she can more easily work with her board in the glare of the suns through glass. The board is pinned with all sorts of ideas, timelines, and snippets of her activities as the Crystal Garden’s Events Planner. Shelves filled with small sculptures fill up the area, also collected from her wanderings here and there. The glass has small crystals hung on it that tend to broadcast rainbow twinkling throughout the whole area. The crystals were cut locally both by Hay’aan and Viskyia, forming fantastical animals that seem to be leaping and dancing in joy around Hay’aan’s area. Additional seating consists of a rather large flat-topped chest (that’s padded with the same material as the desk chair and pin-up board) that holds even more interesting things. Three people can rest on the chest comfortably, though rumor has it the pool boy, two waiters, the bouncer/receptionist, Eben and Garit all almost threw out their backs hauling it up the stairs at Hay’aan’s direction… and that was with the thing empty. Viskyia secretly has decided it’s a great place to hide a body if one was needed in a pinch.

On around, towards the other side, Eben has a workspace that consists of a large black enamel desk, matching cabinet, bookcase, and chair. Someone, probably Viskyia, has inlayed his desk with malachite to tie the space together, and added drawer pulls custom crafted of the same substance. The chair is upholstered in deep green velvet that matches the candles that are scattered about the area. One can tell the owner of the desk area has a love of warm soft light, deep sensual aromas, and an odd combination of strength and softness. Everything is neat, clean, and in its own place. Rather set up like a small lab, glass objects sits on black enamel shelves. Recipe books, notes, ledgers, and all sorts of paperwork line neat black leather ‘boxes’ designed to cleanly and elegantly organize this young man’s area. Long elegant candelabra rest on either side of his desk, giving it a rather glowing light when he needs to sit at his desk updating his records or planning his menus.

Finally, on the far side near the second staircase that sweeps downwards, lies Viskyia’s office area. Her desk is rather unusual, made of one solid length of oak stretched between two open halves of an enormous citrine cathedral geode. A series of amethyst geodes form the risers of matching shelves that flank either side of the desk. A chandelier hung of twinkling matching cut citrine and amethyst crystals (probably removed from the very same unused pieces of geode) provides light when its small candles are all lit. Viskyia needs very little storage, so her area is complete with a warm gold and violet mixed throw rug and several meditation pillows for guests to rest on if a meeting is called for. Her job as owner leaves her a lot of free time and her duties mainly consist of delegating others into completing those tasks which need to be done, advertising, and making growth and business decisions for the resort itself.

[multipage=Special Ops Center]

The Crystal Gardens Special Operations Center--usually abbreviated to CGSOC on paper, but usually unofficially just called the Security Office by everyone else--is broken up into three sections. When one enters from the corridor the room they initially enter is the main office. Three oak desks--one slightly shorter than the others--are arrayed in a fashion facing the entry, where whoever might be in the office would be facing any new arrivals to greet them. All three are kept in tidy order, as they should be, with various reports and such stacked neatly upon their surface. Each has an oil lamp, a decent quill, and an inkpot, with a moderately comfortable chair tucked in back. Against the back wall is a small array of lockers for the storage of personal items and dress, and where personal uniforms are kept when not on company time. There is nothing overly special about these metal lockers, other than the fact that like everything else in the office, it is kept gleaming and in perfect condition.

To the left is an array of three doors. Each is a solid iron door with a heavy deadbolt and a slat where food can be inserted, and a one foot by one foot viewing hole with iron bars at about five feet high. Inside each room is a cot in the corner, and a table with two chairs that can be removed for especially violent people. These three holding rooms are where troublemakers can be held or interviewed when necessary, though more often than not they're completely empty. A similar one foot by one foot barred window stands at the opposite wall, allowing occupants fresh air and sunlight. Because of the placement, it overlooks a street so as not to disrupt the guests of the Crystal Gardens.

To the right of the main office is a large door with a small gold plaque upon the front that says 'Michael Poe - Special Operations Manager'. Inside the office, which smells faintly of sandalwood, is a cherry armoire to the left which serves a similar purpose as the lockers in the main office. Unbeknownst to most, inside the armoire is a metal locker that only Poe has the key to, and it holds any confiscated or stored weapons. To the right is a large cherry wood table where at least eight people could be seated next to a copy of the floor plan of the Crystal Gardens, where certain colored pins have been placed to detail areas of note or that might require special attention or patrols. However, from the door to the very back of the room is a red plush carpet, leading straight to two overstuffed chairs that sit opposite of a large oak desk. Much like the others but larger and with far more paperwork, this desk has quite a comfortable chair behind it, with a beautiful peacock feather quill and an inkpot, a large calendar that charts out the schedule, an Inbox and Outbox for memos, reports, and the like, and several file folders and the occasional tome.

When he's not busy taking a shift himself, Michael Poe is oftentimes behind this desk during business hours, wearing the security staff's uniform, with a small tag that labeled him as the manager of the department. Should any enter, he'd glance up and let his warm, liquid brown gaze soak in any visitors, a hand running to subconsciously smooth this goatee, before leaning back in the office chair to smile and greet the new arrival, asking what he can do to assist them that particular brightening in a friendly and professional manner.

[multipage=Secret Garden Gifts]

A small shop, not at all indicative of the vast amounts and wide variety of items within, stands proudly in the corner to the right before the entrance to the spa. The front wall is made purely of glass and the entrance door is nearly always propped open. The resort's 'gift shop' is referred to as the one stop shop for every guests' needs. Along the walls for display are glass shelves with crystal trinkets, decorative basket sets of candles, lotions, and two mannequins all their lonesome on the far end of the glass window. These mannequins wear matching bathing suits and trunks throughout the year, but during winter they sport scarves and warmer attire.

Its patterned tiled floor gleams like new and the constant sound of women's shoes can be heard walking around the shop as they glance at all the amazing items for sale. The light and airy colors grant the small shop a spacious look despite the fact that it really is not that big. Two big potted plants stand sentinel beside the entranceway, like guards watching over the place. Orange and yellow flowers bloom from the stems with bright green leaves hanging down from the weight. Wooden tables arranged neatly cover the floors and line the walls allowing only enough room for one customer to pass through the self-made aisles at any given time.

Clear glass containers hold small votive candles separated by scent on the first wooden table by the door. There are green pine candles, yellow peach, pink strawberry, blue mountain fresh, and many more for a wonderful collective smell of cleanliness and forest nature. Each candle has etched into its side in fancy letters CG, for the Crystal Gardens. At the top of each wooden table is a small wooden platform for an extra row of items, but these all hold small vases with flowers or small plants, all of which are for sale as well.

There is always a line of customers ready to make their purchases and a slightly overwhelmed clerk, Elle Berdelis with gorgeous red locks and green eyes, rings them all up. Her smile never falters and she always asks, "Did you find everything alright? Can I help you with anything else this brightening?" Elle gives each and every customer special attention and is quick to point out where anything may be kept.

Hidden in woven baskets or on shelves are massage oils, sandals, jewelry, and even a select amount of books for visitors of the resort to keep entertained. Crystal animals and decor lie high up on a shelf for viewing, no touching, and are some of the more expensive items in the shop. Included up above are the signature Crystal Gardens Tree. The base sparkles with pink crystals and the tree trunk and branches are woven from either copper or pewter. These trees range in price from 100 up to 1000 and can also be personalized. These signature pieces are a must-have for all those that have stayed at the resort and spa.

Prices are sometimes listed on items, a small sign hanging from the shelf, or more often than not, inquiry is required as items vary greatly. Elle has the price list memorized by heart and she has no trouble shouting out prices for those waving items at her.

[multipage=The Map of the Resort]

[multipage=The Reception Foyer]

[multipage=The Restaurant]

[multipage=The Kitchen]

NPC InfoTop Chef- Geoffrey Given, Assistant Baker – Veronica Lint, Assistant Chef - Ranklin Green

[multipage=The Aviary]

[multipage=Euphoria Spa]

[multipage=The Oasis Bar]

[multipage=The Pool]

Straw Hats - 4
Pool Floats - 8
Sandals - 5

The Floorplan

NPC InfoMaids – Lasiandra Mycroft, Abbie Koler, and Keleen Cooper

[multipage=The Outdoor Features]

[multipage=The Ballroom]

oocThe Ballroom will be completed at the end of Spring XV

[multipage=The Stables]

oocTo be completed Summer XV - horses and ponies will be purchased at that time.

[multipage=Sweet Indulgences]

[multipage=The Crystal Mezzanine]

[multipage=Special Ops Center]

[multipage=Secret Garden Gifts]

[multipage=The Map of the Resort]

[multipage=The Reception Foyer]

[multipage=The Restaurant]

[multipage=The Kitchen]

NPC InfoTop Chef- Geoffrey Given, Assistant Baker – Veronica Lint, Assistant Chef - Ranklin Green

[multipage=The Aviary]

[multipage=Euphoria Spa]

[multipage=The Oasis Bar]

[multipage=The Pool]

Ice Skates - Rental Fee: 10

The Floorplan

NPC InfoMaids – Lasiandra Mycroft, Abbie Koler, and Keleen Cooper

[multipage=The Outdoor Features]

[multipage=The Ballroom]

oocThe Ballroom will be completed at the end of Spring XV
