OOC Guide to Herozzal and Acumin
The OOC Guide to Herozzal and Acumin!
The following is a list of rules, guidelines and common sense facts about the wonderful, schizophrenic world that is Acumin/Herozzal. These are subject to change due to fits of pique by the moderators, and also for unexpectedly legitimate reasons as well.- Self-Moderation Policy!
Ahh, self-moderation, the industrious PC’s way of getting things done! First off, if you do not want to self-mod yourself, we are more than happy to moderate for you, or approve a peer-moderator for you. We are just that sort of nice. We do have some rules about self-moderation in our lovely town(s):- Town Posts will (soon) be labeled with whether or not you can self-mod your way through regular interactions there. If you want to do something wildly inventive/unconventional/AWESOME, like, say, buy a unicorn at the Aediles, you will undoubtedly have to ask a moderator. Some locations will not permit self-moderation in any case; these will be labeled. If you believe you have reason to self-mod yourself at this location anyhow (IE you are only delivering a message or a package) then please contact the thread’s moderator and let them know that.
- Training can only be done for the first level. Second level or higher will have to be peer or xGM moderated.
- Unless it is a location post that specifically says self-moderation is allowed, you must ASK FOR and RECEIVE permission before continuing. In order to authenticate the thread for future moderators, we must post a physical stamp of approval in your thread after the first post.
- We run our self-mod threads by peer-moderation rules: in order to receive permission, you must write a detailed plan of what you will achieve and what NPCs and locations you will use.
In summary: If you want to self-moderate, you need to write down exactly what you plan on doing and achieving in your thread, what NPCs and locations you will be using, and send the idea to us for permission. Once we have approved it, you post the thread with a beginning, introductory post. Then we post the Stamp of Approval, and you are free to go! When the thread is done, one of us will read it and post experience points received at the end, and close it.
- Who Moderates What?
The resource for this delightful piece of information is the Link Map. Stuck to the top of the forum, it contains quite a bit of information, actually. It tells you all the locations in the town, small descriptions thereof, who wrote them, who moderates them, and what (if any) PCs run them! If a PC does run or is hired to run an establishment, please contact them rather than the moderator. If no PC is listed, contact whichever moderator is responsible for the location.
- Matrons and Houses
Like locations, Houses are divided among the moderators. If you are interested in roleplaying at/with/as a House, even one lacking a writeup, please contact the moderator in charge of that family. Currently the Houses are divided as such:- Lichen
Hlaarn, Tekin’afi, Eowaeder, Melervs, Yelkith, Hun’viir, Godgehym, Nialin, Vhilraaen, Aronyth
- What’s Happening in the City?
Summaries of important (and therefore talked about) events will be placed in the City Events and Link Map thread, with links for those who like to read, and vague summaries for those who don’t. Anything that occurs in the City Events thread can be considered fair game for any long-term resident to know (NPC or PC). If you just showed up, you’d probably have to ask someone who’s been in town for a while.
- Racism in Acumin and Herozal
In Herozzal: Vysstichi females are the ruling elite, and can walk around largely unchallenged. Male vysstichi are sometimes hassled but largely ignored. Dwarves and Dracons are tolerated but not highly regarded, and are frequently slaves. Any other race would likely only be granted entry and free movement as a slave or member of a House, the latter of which requires proof and the former requires a master. Light elves receive the worst treatment out of any of the races.
In Acumin: Most strangers are received with mild suspicion. Vysstichi will not be granted entry without a very good reason, and are not allowed to wander around town without a guard – for both their safety and that of others.
- Training Available
Still in progress
In Herozzal:- Public:
- The Shadows Lair: Weapons and Martial Arts
- Private:
In Acumin:- Public
- The Ranger Hall – Crossbow, Caving, Underground Exploration, Herbal Lore, Tracking, Basic Ranger Training, Longbow, Short Sword
- Druidic Grove – Druidic Training
- Private
- Starting Packages
While there is always leniency and discussion involved in starting packages, these are the general formulas we use. Any starting package must be approved by a GM and placed in a Secrets of Foresight thread. We do allow people to start as members of Houses in Herozzal, but restrict it to people who have played Aelyria in the past. For any starting package, you start with 1500 crowns and subtract amounts for the things you would like to possess.
Acumin Starting Package
-1000 crowns (House)
- 100 crowns (For good reputation and knowledge of citizens)
- 300 crowns (For basic training in a weapon)
- 250 crowns (For basic lore or trade training)
- 950 crowns (For a position and home with the Rangers, and Ranger Training)
Herozzal Starting Package
- 1000 crowns (House)
- 1300 crowns (Position in a House of Ten, with a nice weapon and clothing)
- 300 crowns (basic training in a weapon)
- Moderator Quirks
Our moderators are generally quite nice, easy-going people. We are, however, very against the idea of “post first, apologize later,” and are border-line obsessive with our timestamps. Sometimes we will refuse to post to threads that have inappropriate or completely absent timestamps, sometimes we will assign them for you depending on our own convenience. Basic Policy: if it’s not linked in your CIR or SOF, it didn’t happen. And if you were ever concerned about which moderator you should PM, don’t worry – we pass messages back and forth like forwarded hot potatoes, and share a very efficient hive mind. If you PM the wrong person, we’ll forward it to the right one!
- AGMing in Acumin/Herozzal
If you are interested in moderating in our fair town, fill out the AGM application and send it in to Lichen. Please do your best to fill out the town-specific questions; we’ve put them in there to make certain we all have the same vision of the town. Fair Warning: Lichen is extremely picky with her applications. You may be the best writer ever, but if you send in a crappy application, she will take that as a sign that you don’t care enough, and will not waste her time on you.
- Where’s My Mod?
This is a known fact that we are sharing with you right now: moderators are lazy. Or busy, or something else that causes their posting to decline/increase. If you want to know that your moderator is in Burmuda and not just ignoring you, you can check their status and thread-load in their Moderator Office (Lichen). Follow the guidelines you find there, and PM them if it’s been longer than what they say you should expect.
