Scroll Looking for some help. [Public]

Atticus was walking through the streets of Abestat. Well, more like Private Miller now. He just joined the milita, and had to be stationed here in Abestat for 2 long years before he could even leave. But he was in a fix. He wanted to contact his friends in High Peak. How was he to do it? He had thought about hiring someone to send his letter, but they would have to be well payed and trustworthy. So, Atticus decided to put up a sign. Hey, why not? People wouldn't just stop and ask him if he needed help, now would they? Atticus removed a piece of paper from his provisions. He wrote:

"Letter Carrier need. To deliver letter from Abestat to High Peak and return with a reply. Will be very well payed. Must be a trustworthy individual. Thank you."

Atticus held up the sign, and looked around for help.

OOC: What's the timestamp for this? I see that you are also in the Gold Maltese thread, as am I, so depending on when you date this, I'll edit my post....

Morp was walking around one morning, enjoying the crisp air and slight taste of salt in the air. He saw a man holding a sign. At first glance he thought it was another beggar, but then he actually read the sign, and saw in fact that it was actually asking for help delivering a letter.

"Serale, I saw you sign. I'm Morp, nice to meet you." He offered his hand for a handshake, and then continued talking."I would consider myself trustworthy, and while I am not certain that I would be able to extricate myself from some other responsibilities, I would be happy to see if I can help - Plus, I would love the chance to travel a little bit." He added with a slight smile.

OOC: Sorry, I'll change this if it doesn't work for you.

TIMESTAMP: Ionnalia,43rd of Aperitus, Era X PF

Atticus looked up and down the man. He seemed to be ratehr trustworthy, and simple at the same time. Atticus noticed that he needed to question him a bit further.

"Well, I am looking for someone turstworthy, and you seem like that type of man. Now, the simple requirements are that you've got some stregnth on you. No weakling mind you. Sometimes travellers are mugged, and I know that with the amount I'll be paying, you'll be likly to be a target of robbers." Atticus wasn't sure about the man's stregnth. One could, never tell, on some people.

"Other than that, you simply have to bring my letter to High Peak, (OOC: Post a thread with my text in it . . . you get the idea), IC: and return with a letter or two from my friends. (OOC: Reply with "letters" and find me.) IC:

Atticus paused for a moment.

"Also, I'm wondering as to how much you'd like to be payed. I'll be paying you alot now. I know how far High Peak is from here, and the price is different depending on the letter carrier. Some carriers tend to eat more than others, so they need to pay alot of money for their rations on the trip. If you're one of those people, then I'll be paying you alot more. That way, you'll still make a good profit." Atticus waited for his reply.

"Oh, and I'm Atticus Miller. Private Miller actually. You see it's my military duties that don't allow me to leave Abestat." Atticus had just noticed the outstrectched hand. "Nice to meet you Morp." Atticus grasped the hand firmly with his great strenght, testing to see how strong Morp was in return.

OOC: PMed you with some thoughts about the timestamp...

IC: Morp returned the hand shake trying to match the strength of Atticus's shake, although he did not succeed quite as well as he would have liked, his shake was still firm enough compared to this man of huge strength.

"Nice to meet you, Atticus." He replied as he returned the handshake. "As far as robbers go, I doubt I shall have a problem with them. And if I do, I shall try to hold my own. Maybe I will go with a party of others who are already on thier way to High Peak." Morp doubted he would find someone who was already on thier way, but it would not hurt to try. Then he started thinking about pay. "Well about how long do does it take to travel to the the city? Maybe 15 brightenings? Then another couple in the town to find your friends, rest, and be ready to come back, then another 15 brightenings to return? Let's round that to an even 35 brightenings. With this added up, Morp paused for a moment, then continued with a number in mind, "So how about 400 crowns plus compensation for supplies? That's a little over 10 crowns per day, and with the risk of bandits and other misfortunes of the road, it seems fair."

Morp began thinking about the supplies he would need to buy. Travel rations, bedroll, map, some rope, maybe a lantern, and countless other things. "Do you by any chance own a horse that I might be able to borrow? Otherwise I shall have to rent one and that might be slightly expensive."

Atticus mused over this for some time.

"Yes, yes, I do have a horse that I am in the process of buying. I'll let you borrow that. I have two cycles of feed, and I'll give you those. I'll buy another cycle so that you won't have to. That'll give you 30 brightenings of feed, for the trip. Then, I guess I'll buy another one while I'm at it."

Atticus thought for a while.

"400 crowns seems fair to me. You will be doing quite a service for me, no doubt. I'll have to settle my deal with the horse I'm buying, pick up my 4 cycles of feed, and allow you to borrow my equipment for the horse. If it turns out that you had to spend more money than intended for something in High Peak, such as a broken harness or saddle, I'll pay for that too when you return."

Atticus looked up and smiled. "I hope the trip will not be too much trouble for you. I will settle the deal with my horse in the next cycle or so, and then return to you with the letter and horse. "

"If you happened to have a residence here in Abestat, I'd be willing to visit that and speak with you once I've boughten the horse. Also, I can keep your home tidy for you if you'd wish. Be a caretaker or something, that way you'd make more of a profit. I know how hard this trip is for you; not just any old person can do it."

Morp thought for a moment on this, and made the final decision to go ahead and do the job for sure.

"Very well, it all sounds good. I have a house here in Abestat, feel free to stop by any time I would be happy to have you by, for business or otherwise." He quickly explained where his house was. "While you are finishing up with buying all the horse supplies, I will talk to my boss and try to get a leave for the amount of time that this will take." Almost as an afterthought, he added, "Also, it would be quite treacherous traveling duirng the winter, so I shall wait until spring to leave, if that is alright with you?"

He was looking forward to this job, for he had always wanted to travel but had not yet had the time nor resources. And, best of all, High Peak was quite a ways away, so he would get to see quite a bit of the land as he traveled.

"Yes Morp, that is perfectly alright. I hope everything goes well . . ."

Atticus looked down at the sign he had made and folded it up. "I better go settle that horse business then. I'll visit your home sometime this cycle or next, but do you have an address? Atticus pulled out a writing untensil. He intended to write the address on the back of the sign.

"My address is 4200 Vienna Drive... It's in the northern section of the city, ask around a bit, it shouldn't be hard to find." Their short meeting apparently over, Morp started to turn away and then bid Atticus goodbye and said that he looked forward to the next time that they met.

"Yes, it is very kind of you to offer to do this job . . ."

Atticus walked away.
