Eyvind
The Imperial Minister of War had a long silence, a very long silence, as he regarded the young man in front of him.
Quite the opposite, or perhaps a little different than the
other warrior who'd just been here in this same office, but the Imperial Legions truly needed people with varying abilities..
And he
wasn't just some knuckle-dragging mudeater, as he'd soon come to learn (as they swabbie kelpeater types often liked to ridicule those who served under the
other service). He had a grasp of military tactics and political realities, and looked to have the prudent wisdom--yes,
that was the word--this Eyvind fellow had the prudent wisdom to plot, both in tactical and strategic terms. A future Imperatis, this much was certain.
A good man. Would that by this campaign he wouldn't be wasting so much of these young lives...
...yes, he may very well be wearing that rank one brightening, but he'd have to crawl through the mud and join his comrades in the field, first.
It was the quality of the man that determined who he was. This quality would distinguish him from others.
Crossing his arms across his chest, ceruleans intent upon the young legionary, Alexis couldn't quite help but smile in an almost paternalistic pride. If
this was the type of soldier the Jade was producing, well, perhaps there
was hope for the Empire, despite these dire straits, after all.
"If you ever find yourself in need of further challenge, or a more exciting assignment, dispatch me a letter, and I'll see what we can do for you. Who knows? You may very well find yourself in the position you just outlined for me earlier," said he with an affable shrug, but with a direct look.
The Sapientia look.
Standing up from behind his desk, so did he approach the young warrior, clasping his hands behind his back, surveying the fellow with a decidedly gimlet eye. Oh, he
wouldn't want this fellow in the
other command tent across a battlefield, goodness, no. This was the sort of man he wanted fighting on
his side.
Giving a smile, and clapping the fellow on his left shoulder, so did Alexis stand in front of the fellow.
"You speak well, Eyvind. As you have shown full faith and confidence in your leaders and the Empire, henceforth shall I show my faith and confidence in you as well as your abilities."
Returning to his desk, so did he take paper, wax and ink, handing the legionary the sealed document, a proud smile given by the Imperial Minister of War. He took young legionary' hand, shaking it firmly, before saluting him with the edge of his ivory wand of office.
"Thank you. You may open this on the first of Imperos, come the summer. Now go forth and show the Empire what you're made of."
